High aluminum concentration and initial establishment of Handroanthus impetiginosus : clues about an Al non-resistant species in Brazilian Cerrado

Cerrado soils are acidic and nutrient-poor,with high content of solubilized Al 3+.Plants growing in these conditions may display adaptations to cope with high aluminum concentrations especially during early developmental *** investigated leaf nutritional status,and photosynthetic and growth characteristics during the initial establishment of Handroanthus impetiginosus(*** Dc.)mattos,a secondary tree species distributed in the Brazilian *** goal was to understand leaf-level traits related to diff erent aluminum *** plants were cultivated in four diff erent aluminum sulfate concentrations:0,1,2,and 4 mm Al,for 40 *** performed analyses of growth,leaf gas exchange,chloroplast pigment content,and leaf mineral *** observed a linear increase of Al leaf content as a function of Al concentration in the nutrient *** grown in 1 mm Al showed a remarkable increase of K leaf content,net photosynthesis,stomatal conductance,and transpiration,while in 4 mm Al there were reductions of N,P,and K contents,gas exchange characteristics,and *** did not have mechanisms of avoidance,compartmentalization,or resistance to high Al ***,this species showed a hormetic response,with low Al concentrations stimulating and high Al concentrations inhibiting plant responses.

Inhibitory effect of reuterin-producing Limosilactobacillus reuteri and edible alginate-konjac gum film against foodborne pathogens and spoilage microorganisms

The possible inhibitory effects against foodborne pathogens and spoilage microorganisms of two strains(DSm 20016 and DSm 17938)of reuterin-producing Limosilactobacillus reuteri,and an edible alginate-konjac gum film containing *** cells and in situ produced reuterin was *** in vitro antimicrobial screening study indicated that both *** strains and the edible film showed inhibitory effects against ***,*** and ***,and towards the fungi ***,***,***,and *** addition,*** DSm 20016 was able to produce reuterin in situ(46.67 mmol/L)in alginate-konjac gum film-forming solution through anaerobic glycerol ***,after the edible film production by extrusion technique,both *** and reuterin were successfully trapped(98 and 67.6%,respectively).Further studies must be conducted to detect the exact metabolites related to the inhibition effects against foodborne pathogens and spoilage microorganisms.

The by-catch fauna of the shrimp fishery includes a number of marine invertebrates that are discarded because they do not have commercial *** order to try to add some value to these materials,we analyzed the chemical composition of the starfish Luidia senegalensis collected in the Brazilian coast as a consequence of the trawling fishery *** order to access their chemical composition,we used a combination of solid phase extraction(SPE)followed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization ion trap tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-ESI-IT-mSn).Luidia sene-galensis contains asterosaponins,which are sulphated glycosilated steroids,containing five and six sugar moieties,in addition to *** study helped us to support the presence of important and potentially bioactive compounds in invertebrates associated to the by-catch fauna of the shrimp fishery,using a fast and efficient method.

Influence of fire on woody vegetation of savanna and forest formations in the Cerrado biome

Wildfires have environmental,economic,and social impacts,and can shape the landscape and benefit ecosystems such as the *** study evaluated the diversity,similarity,and floristic and structural differences of woody savanna and forest formations of the Cerrado,when affected and not affected by ***-eight 25-400m2 plots were randomly allocated and divided into Burnt Cerrado and Unburnt Cerrado,Burnt Forest,and Unburnt Forest,and divided into three levels of inclusion according to diameter class(smaller than 2 cm,2-5 cm and larger than5 cm).Species were identified,DBH and height measured,and phyto sociological parameters such as volume,diversity,and floristic similarity *** Cerrado had lower diversity,density,and dominance at all inclusion levels compared to the Unburnt Cerrado,and showed similarities between treatments at the inclusion *** Forest had smaller differences in diversity,density,and dominance than Unburnt *** formation was similar at level 1 of inclusion and in the total ***,it was dissimilar at lower *** lower density and diversity of species at the lowest levels of inclusion was associated with mortality from fire.

At the intersection between treatment and diagnosis, nanoparticles technologies are strongly impacting the development of both therapeutic and diagnostic ***, the development of novel modalities for concomitant noninvasive therapy and diagnostics known as theranostics as a single platform has gained significant interests. These multifunctional theranostic platforms include carbon-based nanomaterials（e.g., carbon nanotubes）, drug conjugates, aliphatic polymers, micelles, vesicles, core-shell nanoparticles, microbubbles and dendrimers bearing different contrast agents and drugs, such as cytotoxic compounds in the oncology domain. Dendrimers emerged as a new class of highly tunable hyperbranched polymers, and have been developed as useful theranostic platforms. magnetic resonance imaging, gamma scintigraphy, computed tomography and optical imaging are the main techniques developed with dendrimers in the theranostic domain in oncology. Different imaging agents have been used such as Gd（Ⅲ）,19F, Fe2O3（mRI）,76Br（PET）,111In,88Y,153Gd,188Re,131I（SPECT）,177Lu,gold（CT） and boronated groups, siliconnaphthalocyanines,dialkylcarbocyanines and QDs（optical imaging dyes）.

Localized-states quantum confinement induced by roughness in CdmnTe/CdTe heterostructures grown on Si(111) substrates

This work shows that despite a lattice mismatch of almost 20%, CdmnTe/CdTe/CdmnTe heterostructures grown directly on Si(111) have surprisingly good optical emission properties. The investigated structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments indicate three emission bands which depend on the CdTe layer thickness and have different confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to defects and bound exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2D character and the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-defined (zero-dimensional, 0D) 0D nature. micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of sharp and strongly circularly polarized (up to 40%) emission lines which can be related to the presence of mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of producing photon sources with the typical spin control of the diluted magnetic semiconductors using the low-cost silicon technology.

Dear Editor,The severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is associated with ***,such as low-molecular-weight heparin,warfarin,thrombin inhibitors,and factor Xa(FXa)inhibitors,are thus recommended by the American Society of Hematology and National Institutes of Health for COVID-19 patients(Wenzler et al.,2020;Adam et al.,2021).Clinical trials with anticoagulants have shown the increased survival of critically ill COVID-19 patients under non-invasive and invasive ventilatory assistance(Wenzler et al.,2020;Adam et al.,2021),along with decreased consumption of platelets and clotting factors and a reduced risk of hemorrhage(Adam et al.,2021).Among the anti-clotting agents,early use of orally available FXa and thrombin inhibitors(Chowdhury et al.,2020;Rentsch et al.,2021)prevented high levels of D-dimer,which is the final product from the clotting/fibrinolysis cascade and is directly implicated with severe COVID-19(Rentsch et al.,2021).
