The loss of pigmented neurons from the human brain has long been the hallmark of Parkinson＇s disease（PD）.Neuromelanin（NM） in the pre-synaptic terminal of dopamine neurons is emerging as a primary player in the etiology of neurodegenerative disorders including *** mini-review discusses the interactions between neuromelanin and different molecules in the synaptic terminal and describes how these interactions might affect neurodegenerative disorders including *** can reversibly bind and interact with amine containing neurotoxins,e.g.,MPTP,to augment their actions in the terminal,eventually leading to the instability and degeneration of melanin-containing neurons due to oxidative stress and mitochondrial *** particular,neuromelanin appears to confer susceptibility to chemical toxicity by providing a large sink of iron-bound,heme-like structures in a pi-conjugated system,a system seemingly purposed to allow for stabilizing interactions including pi-stacking as well as ligand binding to *** the progressive accumulation of NM with age corresponding with an apparent decrease in dopamine synthetic pathways,the immediate question of whether NM is also capable of binding dopamine,the primary functional monoamine utilized in this cell,should be *** the rather glaring implications of this finding,this idea appears not to have been adequately *** such,we postulate on potential mechanisms by which dopamine might dissociate from neuromelanin and the implications of such a reversible ***,if neuromelanin is able to sequester and release dopamine in membrane bound vesicles,this intracellular pre-synaptic mechanism could be the basis for a form of chemical memory in dopamine neurons.

Introduction: Sickle cell anaemia is a hereditary disease that combines physical and psychological manifestations, including suicidal tendencies. So far, to our knowledge, no study has been conducted on suicidal behaviours among people with sickle cell disease in Cameroon. This is what justifies our study on the prevalence and factors related to suicidal behaviors in our study population. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, analytical study of 171 sickle cell patients aged from 12 years upwards who came to the sickle cell disease care service of the laquintinie Hospital in Douala, over a period of 6 months, that is, from 1 January to 31 June 2022. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with questions on suicidal behaviours based on the “MINI” (Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview). The data were processed using the SPSS 26.0 software. The related factors were studied in both a bivariate and multivariate analysis. Results: Female sickle cell patients accounted for 60.2% of the sample. The mean age was 23.36 ± 8.42 years. Suicidal ideation was prevalent in 56% of cases and 13% attempted suicide. The factors most associated with suicidal ideation were: primary level of education (OR = 0.08 (0.09 - 0.79);p = 0.03), feeling unworthy of life (OR = 0.40 (0.08 - 1.96);p = 0.02), not often being considered by those around them (OR = 2.97 (1.26 - 6.99);p = 0.01), lack of family support (OR = 0.34 (0.15 - 0.77);p = 0.01). Meanwhile, the factors associated with suicide attempts were: the fact of being rarely exposed to suicide-related media (OR = 4.17 (1.40 - 71.80);p = 0.03), and a constant feeling of sadness when returning home (OR = 18.02 (1.59 - 20.55);p = 0.01). Conclusion: More than half of sickle cell patients had had suicidal thoughts and 1/6 had made at least one suicide attempt, women and young adults being the most concerned. It is therefore necessary to ensure optimum psychological care for patients with sickle cell disease.

Real time nowcasting is an assessment of current-quarter GDP from timely released economic and financial series before the GDP figure is *** a reliable current quarter nowcast in real time based on the most recently released economic and financial monthly data is crucial for central banks to make policy decisions and longer-term forecasting *** this study,we use dynamic factor models to bridge monthly information with quarterly GDP and achieve reduction in the dimensionality of the monthly *** develop a Bayesian approach to provide a way to deal with the unbalanced features of the dataset and to estimate latent common *** demonstrate the validity of our approach through simulation studies,and explore the applicability of our approach through an empirical study in nowcasting the China's GDP using 117 monthly data series of several categories in the Chinese *** simulation studies and empirical study indicate that our Bayesian approach may be a viable option for nowcasting the China's GDP.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the FOlFIRI regimen in patients with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) after the failure of gemcitabine and platinum salts. METHODS: All consecutive patients with histologically confirmed, metastatic PAC and World Health Organiza-tion performance status (PS) ≤ 2 received FOlFIRI-1 [irinotecan 180 mg/m2 on day 1 and leucovorin 400 mg/m2 followed by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 400 mg/m2 bolus, then 5-FU 2400 mg/m2 as a 46-h infusion, biweekly] or FOlFIRI-3 (irinotecan 100 mg/m2 on day 1 and leucovorin 400 mg/m2, then 5-FU 2400 mg/m2 as a 46-h infusion and irinotecan 100 mg/m2 repeated on day 3, biweekly) after failure of gemcitabine and platinum-based chemotherapies as a systematic policy in two institutions between January 2005 and May 2010. Tumor response, time to progression (TTP), overall survival rate (OS) and grade 3-4 toxicities were retrospectively studied. Subgroup analyses were performed to search for prognostic factors. RESUlTS: Sixty-three patients (52.4% male, median age 59 years) were analyzed. Among them, 42.9% were PS 0, 38.1% were PS 1 and 19.0% were PS 2. Fifty one patients (81.0%) had liver metastases. Before the FOlFIRI regimen, patients had received 1 line (n = 19), 2 lines (n = 39) or 3 lines (n = 5) of chemotherapy. Median TTP obtained with the line before FOlFIRI was 3.9 mo (95% CI: 3.4-5.3 mo). A total of 480 cycles was completed (median: 6 cycles, range: 1-51 cycles). The main reason for discontinuing FOlFIRI was tumor progression (90.3%). Tumor control was achieved in 25 patients (39.7%) (partial response: n = 5, stable disease: n = 20) with FOlFIRI. Median TTP was 3.0 mo (95% CI: 2.1-3.9 mo) and median OS was 6.6 mo (95% CI: 5.3-8.1 mo). Dose adaptation was required in 36 patients (57.1%). Fifteen patients (23.8%) had grade 3-4 toxicities, mainly hematological (n = 11) or digestive (n = 4). Febrile neutropenia occurred in 3 patients. There was no toxic death. To eat or get heat： Behavioral trade-offs between thermoregulation and feeding in gregarious necrophagous larvae

The thermoregulation behavior oflucilia sericata larvae （Diptera： Calliphori- dae）, a necrophagous species that feeds on vertebrate cadavers, was investigated. These larvae require high heat incomes to develop, and can elevate temperatures by forming large aggregates. We hypothesized that l. sericata larvae should continue to feed at temperatures up to 38 ℃, which can be reached inside larval masses. Thermal regulation behavior such as movement between a hot food spot and colder areas was also postulated. The hypotheses were tested by tracking for 1 h the activity of single, starved third instar larvae in a Petri dish containing 1 food spot （FS） that was heated to a constant temperature of 25 ℃, 34 ℃ or 38 ℃ with an ambient temperature of 25 ℃. The influence of previous conspecific activity in the food on larval behavior was also tested. The crops of larvae were dissected to monitor food content in the digestive systems. Based on relative crop measurements, larvae fed at all food temperatures, but temperature strongly affected larval behavior and kinematics. The total time spent by larvae in FS and the duration of each stay decreased at high FS temperature. Previous activity of conspecifics in the food slightly increased the time spent by larvae in FS and also decreased the average distance to FS. Therefore, necrophagous l. sericata larvae likely thermoregulate during normal feeding activities by adjusting to local fluctuations in temperature, particularly inside maggot masses. By maintaining a steady internal body temperature, larvae likely reduce their development time.

Tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)with total anomalous pulmonary vein connections(TAPVC)is a rare type of complex congenital heart disease among all TOF ***-presentation of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries(MAPCAs)compensates for the lack of central pulmonary bloodﬂow and decreases the severity of right-to-left shunting in *** present a case of a 2-year-old child with complex diagnoses of TOF,TAPVC,a large secun-dum atrial septal defect(ASD),and intraoperatively identiﬁed *** underwent surgery to repair the TAPVC,valve-sparing reconstruction of the right ventricular outﬂow tract,interventricular defect closure,and the creation of patent foramen ovale(PFO).After the operation,hemodynamic instability happened along with sudden blood pressure drop,desaturation,and increased central venous pressure,which subsided after adminis-tering inhalational nitric oxide(NO).A postoperative pulmonary hypertension crisis was suggested when the patient experienced recurrent symptoms after the termination of ***ﬁndings of a D-shaped left ventricle(lV),right-to-left PFO shunt and high tricuspid valve gradientﬁrmly established the *** was subsequently managed with continuous NO inhalation and sildenaﬁl,which rendered a satisfactory *** TOF and TAPVC could be at particular risk of developing pulmonary hypertension crisis,especially in the presence of MAPCAs due to possible remodeling of the pulmonary ***,a relatively non-compliant lV function and small left atrial size may exacerbate the risk of developing postcapillary pulmonary hypertension after TAPVC repair.A successful postoperative outcome calls for a meticulous preoperative analysis of the anatomical lesions,as well as careful monitoring.
