Mechanical behavior and damage constitutive model of sandstone under hydro-mechanical (H-M) coupling

Underground engineering often passes through water-rich fractured rock masses, which are prone to fracture and instability under the long-term coupling of in-situ stress field and pore water(P-W) pressure, ultimately threatening the stability of underground structures. In order to explore the mechanical properties of rocks under H-M coupling, the corresponding damage constitutive(D-C) model has become the focus of attention. Considering the inadequacy of the current research on rock strength parameters,energy evolution characteristics and D-C model under H-M coupling, the mechanical properties of typical sandstone samples are discussed based on laboratory tests. The results show that the variation of characteristic stresses of sandstone under H-M coupling conforms to the normalized attenuation equation and Mohr-Coulomb(M-C) criterion. The P-W pressure mechanism of sandstone exhibits a dynamic change from softening effect to H-M fracturing effect. The closure stress is mainly provided by cohesive strength, while the initiation stress, damage stress, and peak stress are jointly dominated by cohesive strength and friction strength. In addition, residual stress is attributed to the friction strength formed by the bite of the fracture surface. Subsequently, the energy evolution characteristics of sandstone under H-M coupling were studied, and it was found that P-W pressure weakened the energy storage capacity and energy dissipation capacity of sandstone, and H-M fracturing was an important factor in reducing its energy storage efficiency. Finally, combined with energy dissipation theory and statistical damage theory, two types of D-C models considering P-W pressure are proposed accordingly, and the model parameters can be determined by four methods. The application results indicate that the proposed and modified D-C models have high reliability, and can characterize the mechanical behavior of sandstone under H-M coupling, overcome the inconvenience of existing D-C models

Damage sensitivity of a wing-type leading edge structure impacted by a bird

On the windward side of an aircraft,the components with higher probability of impact with birds are the wing-type leading edge structures,such as the wing and tail.A study on the damage sensitivity of a wing-type leading edge structure under bird strikes was presented in this ***,a bird strike test was carried out on a *** principles of the bird strike test equipment and method were introduced in detail,including the bird strike test system,bird projectile production process and data acquisition *** dynamic strain measurement results,the high-speed camera videos,and the final deformation and damage morphology observations of the structure were *** on the coupled Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH)-Finite Element Method(FEM),the commercial software PAM-CRASH was used to simulate the process of a bird strike with the *** good agreement between the finite element simulation results and the experimental results shows that the calculation method and the numerical model presented in this paper were *** this basis,wing-type leading edge structures can be designed by adding triangular *** bird strike resistances of an original structure and improved structure were studied by numerical *** calculated results show that the improved wing-type leading edge structure is less damaged than the original structure under bird *** improved leading edge structure satisfied the anti-bird strike airworthiness requirements,as the thickness of the triangular support was 1.2 mm,and the weight of the structure was reduced by 0.87 kg compared with the original *** indicated that the bird strike resistance of the improved structure is better than that of the original structure,and the improved design of the wing-type leading edge structure presented in this paper is reasonable.

Impeding high temperature sintering is challengeable for synthesis of carbon-supported single-atom catalysts (C-SACs), which requires high-cost precursor and strictly-controlled procedures. Herein, by virtue of the ultrastrong polarity of salt melts, sintering of metal atoms is effectively suppressed. Meanwhile, doping with inorganic sulfur anions not only produces sufficient anchoring sites to achieve high loading of atomically dispersed Co up to 13.85 wt.%, but also enables their electronic and geometric structures to be well tuned. When served as a cathode catalyst in dye-sensitized solar cells, the C-SAC with Co-N4-S2 moieties exhibits high activity towards the iodide reduction reaction (IRR), achieving a higher power conversion efficiency than that of conventional Pt counterpart. Density function theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the superior IRR activity was ascribed to the unique structure of Co-N4-S2 moieties with lower reaction barriers and moderate binding energy of iodine on the Co center, which was beneficial to I2 dissociation.

Highly efficient organic solar cells with improved stability enabled by ternary copolymers with antioxidant side chains

The stability of organic solar cells(OSCs)remains a major concern for their ultimate industrialization due to the photo,oxygen,and water susceptibility of organic photoactive ***,antioxidant additives are blended as radical scavengers into the active ***,it will induce the intrinsic morphology instability and adversely affect the efficiency and long-term ***,the antioxidant dibutylhydroxytoluene(BHT)group has been covalently linked onto the side chain of benzothiadiazole(BT)unit,and a series of ternary copolymers D18-Cl-BTBHTx(x=0,0.05,0.1,0.2)with varied ratio of BHT-containing side chains have been *** was found that the introduction of BHT side chains would have a negligible effect on the photophysical properties and electronic levels,and the D18-Cl-BTBHT0.05:Y6-based OSC achieved the highest power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 17.6%,which is higher than those based active layer blended with BHT *** importantly,the unencapsulated device based on D18-Cl-BTBHTx(x=0.05,0.1,0.2)retained approximately 50%of the initial PCE over 30 hours operation under ambient conditions,significantly outperforming the control device based on D18-Cl(90%degradation in PCE after 30 h).This work provides a new structural design strategy of copolymers for OSCs with simultaneously improved efficiency and stability.

All-Polymer Solar Cells and Photodetectors with Improved Stability Enabled by Terpolymers Containing Antioxidant Side Chains

It is of vital importance to improve the long-term and photostability of organic photovoltaics,including organic solar cells(OSCs)and organic photodetectors(OPDs),for their ultimate ***,two series of terpolymers featuring with an antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene(BHT)-terminated side chain,PTzBI-EHp-BTBHTx and N2200-BTBHTx(x=0.05,0.1,0.2),are designed and *** was found that incorporating appropriate ratio of benzothiadiazole(BT)with BHT side chains on the conjugated backbone would induce negligible effect on the molecular weight,absorption spectra and energy levels of polymers,however,which would obviously enhance the photostability of these ***,all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs)and photodetectors were fabricated,and the all-PSC based on PTzBI-EHp-BTBHT0.05:N2200 realized an optimal power conversion efficiency(PCE)approaching~10%,outperforming the device based on pristine PTzBI-EHp:***,the all-PSCs based on BHT-featuring terpolymers displayed alleviated PCEs degradation under continuous irradiation for 300 h due to the improved morphological and photostability of active *** OPDs based on BHT-featuring terpolymers achieved a lower dark current at−0.1 bias,which could be stabilized even after irradiation over 400 *** study provides a feasible approach to develop terpolymers with antioxidant efficacy for improving the lifetime of OSCs and OPDs.

Rethink Left-Behind Experience: New Categories and Its Relationship with Aggression

Left-behind experience refers to the experience of children staying behind in their hometown under the care of only one parent or their relatives while one or both of their parents leave to work in other *** students with left-behind experience showed higher aggression *** further explore the relationship between left-behind experience and aggression,the current study categorized left-behind experience using latent class analysis and explored its relationship with *** thousand twenty-eight Chinese college students with left-behind experience were recruited,and their aggression levels were *** results showed that there were four categories of left-behind experience:“starting from preschool,frequent contact”(35.5%),“less than 10 years in duration,limited contact”(27.0%),“starting from preschool,over 10 years in duration,limited contact”(10.9%),and“starting from school age,frequent contact”(26.6%).Overall,college students who reported frequent contact with their parents during the left-behind period showed lower levels of aggression than others *** were less aggressive than males in the“starting from preschool,frequent contact”left-behind situation,while males were less aggressive than females in the“starting from school age,frequent contact”*** indicate that frequent contact with leaving parents contributes to decreasing aggression of college students with left-behind ***,gender is an important factor in this relationship.

With practical interest in the future applications of next-generation electronic devices,it is imperative to develop new conductive interconnecting materials appropriate for modern electronic devices to replace traditional rigid solder tin and silver paste of high melting temperature or corrosive solvent ***,we design highly stretchable shape memory self-soldering conductive(SMSC)tape with reversible adhesion switched by temperature,which is composed of silver particles encapsulated by shape memory *** tape has perfect shape and conductivity memory property and anti-fatigue ability even under the strain of 90%.It also exhibits an initial conductivity of 2772 S cm^(−1) and a maximum tensile strain of~100%.The maximum conductivity could be increased to 5446 S cm^(−1) by decreasing the strain to 17%.Meanwhile,SMSC tape can easily realize a heating induced reversible strong-to-weak adhe-sion transition for self-soldering *** combination of stable conductivity,excellent shape memory performance,and temperature-switching reversible adhesion enables SMSC tape to serve two functions of electrode and solder *** provides a new way for conductive interconnecting materials to meet requirements of modern electronic devices in the future.

Large-sized cranial bone defect repair presents a great challenge in the *** ideal cranioplasty materials to realize the functional and cosmetic recovery of the defect must have sufficient mechanical support,excellent biocompatibility,good osseointegration and biodegradability as *** this study,a high-strength mineralized collagen(MC)bone scaffold was developed with biomimetic composition,microstructure and mechanical properties for the repair of sheep largesized cranial bone defects in comparison with two traditional cranioplasty materials,polymethyl methacrylate and titanium *** compact MC scaffold showed no distinct pore structure and therefore possessed good mechanical *** strength and elastic modulus of the scaffold were much higher than those of natural cancellous bone and slightly lower than those of natural compact *** vitro cytocompatibility evaluation revealed that the human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(hBMSC)had good viability,attachment and proliferation on the compact MC scaffold indicating its excellent *** adult sheep cranial bone defect model was constructed to evaluate the performances of these cranioplasty materials in repairing the cranial bone *** results were investigated by gross observation,computed tomography scanning as well as histological *** in vivo evaluations indicated that compact MC scaffold showed notable osteoconductivity and osseointegration with surrounding cranial bone tissues by promoting bone *** results suggested that the compact MC scaffold has a promising potential for large-sized cranial bone defect repair.
