The effects of hurricane forward speed(V)and approach angle(θ)on storm surge are important and a systematic investigation covering possible and continuous ranges of these parameters has not been done *** we present such a study with a numerical experiment using the Finite Volume Community Ocean Model(FVCOM).The hurricane track is simplified as a straight line,such that V andθfully define the motion of the *** maximum surge is contributed by both free waves and a forced storm surge wave moving with the *** the free waves,Kelvin-type waves can only propagate in the down-coast *** show that those waves can only have a significant positive storm surge when the hurricane velocity has a down-coast *** optimal values of V andθthat maximize the storm surge in an idealized semi-circular ocean basin are functions of the *** a constant bathymetry,the maximum surge occurs when the hurricane approaches the coast from the normal direction when the free wave generation is minimal;for a stepped bathymetry,the maximum surge occurs at a certain acute approach angle which maximizes the duration of persistent wind forcing;a step-like bathymetry with a sloped shelf is similar to the stepped bathymetry,with the added possibility of landfall resonance when the free and forced waves are moving at about the same *** other cases,the storm surge is smaller,given other parameters(hurricane size,maximum wind speed,etc.)unchanged.

Numerical experiments were conducted using the finite volume community ocean model(FVCOM) to study the impact of the initial density stratification on simulated currents over the Louisiana shelf during Hurricane Katrina. Model results for two simulation scenarios, including an initially stratified shelf and an initially non-stratified shelf, were examined. Comparison of two simulations for two-dimensional(2D) currents,the time series of current speed, and variations of cross-shore currents across different sections showed that the smallest differences between simulated currents for these two scenarios occurred over highly mixed regions within 1 radius of maximum wind(RMW) under the *** areas farther from the mixed zone, differences increased, reaching the maximum values off Terrebonne Bay. These large discrepancies correspond to significant differences between calculated vertical eddy viscosities for the two scenarios. The differences were addressed based on the contradictory behavior of turbulence in a stratified fluid, as compared to a non-stratified fluid. Incorporation of this behavior in the MellorYamada turbulent closure model established a Richardson number-based stability function that was used for estimation of the vertical eddy viscosity from the turbulent energy and macroscale. The results of this study demonstrate the necessity for inclusion of shelf stratification when circulation modeling is conducted using three-dimensional(3D) baroclinic models. To achieve high-accuracy currents, the parameters associated with the turbulence closures should be calibrated with field measurements of currents at different depths.

A bulk power system is conventionally characterized by a complex structure with a large number of components. Each component generally has a different contribution to the transmission congestion(TC) of a system. Thus, a TC sharing method that can be used to evaluate the contribution of each component to the system TC and recognize the weak parts from the perspective of TC should be built. This paper presents a transmission congestion tracing(TCT) principle based on the failed component sharing principle and proportional sharing principle and a TCT model using the Monte Carlo simulation method. Case studies on the IEEE Reliability Test System indicate that the proposed method is effective and feasible.

The generation of high-resolution data is increasingly important in understanding the complexities of coastal ocean and developing sound management strategies, especially in view of the long-term impact of severe weather systems. The impact of severe weather systems, when integrated over time, can be significant when compared with tidal oscillations. This paper presents a study of water transport out of Vermilion Bay in response to a short, intense event associated with a passing atmospheric cold front, and reports the application of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler （ADCP） mounted on an Automated Surface Craft （ASC）, known as the auto-boat or unmanned boat, developed in our lab at the Louisiana State University, to generate high resolution data accurately at a fraction of the cost of a manned boat. In our study, we used a manned boat and an unmanned boat, each for over 24 h to cover an entire diurnal tidal cycle, to measure flow velocity profiles to calculate the total transport. A stationary ADCP was deployed in the Southwest Pass of the Vermilion Bay from May 2009 to April 2012, providing data almost continuously （with only one major gap）, with a 717-day record of water transport between the northern Gulf of Mexico and Vermilion Bay, and demonstrates the importance of the pass in water transport.

The even-parity autoionizing resonance series 4p^5np＇ [3/2] 1,2, [ 1/2] 1, and 4p^2nf＇ [5/213 of krytpon have been investigated by laser excitation from the two metastable states 4p55s [3/2]2 and 4p^55s＇ [1/2]0 in the photon energy region of 2900（P40000 cm^-1 at experimental bandwidth of -0.1 cm-1. The excitation spectra of the even-parity autoionizing resonance series, most of which are experimentally studied for the first time in this work, show typical asymmetric line shapes. Complementary information on level energies, quantum defects, line profile indices and resonance widths, resonance lifetimes and reduced widths of the auto- ionizing resonances are derived by Fano-type line-shape analyses of the experimental results. Results from this work indicate that the line profile index （q） and the resonance width （F） are approximately proportional to the effective principal quantum number （n＊）; the line separation of the 4p^5np＇ autoionizing resonances is also in good agreement with theoretical model

In order to obtain high-quality spherical RDX crystal particles,the RDX crystals were suspended in a mixed solvent of cyclohexanone and cyclohexane,subsequently a solvent etching study was carried out under the action of vibration/acoustic flow coupled flow field,which generated by resonance acoustic *** effects of solvent ratio,temperature,acceleration and experiment time on morphology as well as particle size of RDX crystals were *** only were the morphology,particle size distribution and crystal form of RDX crystals determined,but also the thermal decomposition performance and mechanical sensitivity of spherical RDX were examined and *** indicated that under the process of solvent/non-solvent volume ratio at 1:2,temperature of 40℃,acceleration of 40 g and experiment time of 4 h,α-type RDX crystal with sphericity of 0.92 can be ***,the median particle size(D_(50))of spherical RDX crystals is 215.8 μm with a unimodal particle size distribution(size span 1.34).For one thing,the thermal decomposition peak temperature of spherical RDX is about 2.5℃ higher than that of raw RDX,and apparent activation energy reaches 444.68 kJ/*** another thing,impact sensitivity and friction sensitivity of spherical RDX are 18.18% and 33.33% lower than that of raw RDX,*** demonstrates that safety of spherical RDX under thermal,impact and friction stimuli has been improved.

Unexpected ice accumulation tends to cause many problems or even disasters in our daily *** on the superior electrothermal and photothermal function of the carbon nanotubes,we introduced a superhydrophobic/electrothermal/photothermal synergistically anti-icing *** a voltage of 15 V was applied to the superhydrophobic sample,the surface could rapidly melt the ice layer(~3 mm thickness)within 530 s at the environmental temperature of-25℃.When the near-infrared light(808 nm)irradiates on the superhydrophobic sample,the ice could be rapidly removed after 460 *** was found that the superhydrophobicity helps the melted water to roll off immediately,and then solves the re-freeze problem the traditional surfaces ***,the ice can be completely melted with 120 s when the superhydrophobic/electrothermal/photothermal synergistically anti-icing strategy was *** improve the mechanical robustness for practical application,both nanoscale carbon nanotubes and microscale carbon powders were utilized to construct hierarchical *** these dual-scale fillers were sprinkled onto the semi-cured elastomer substrate to prepare partially embedded *** hierarchical structure and partially embedded structure were obtained after completely curing the substrate,which imparts excellent abrasion resistance(12.50 kPa,16.00 m)to the prepared ***,self-healable poly(urea–urethane)elastomer was introduced as the ***,the cutted superhydrophobic sample can be mended by simply contacting at room temperature.
