Computer Navigation-aided Resection of Sacral Chordomas

Background： Resection of sacral chordomas is challenging. The anatomy is complex, and there are often no bony landmarks to guide the resection. Achieving adequate surgical margins is, therefore, difficult, and the recurrence rate is high. Use of computer navigation may allow optimal preoperative planning and improve precision in tumor resection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and feasibility of computer navigation-aided resection of sacral chordomas. Methods： Between 2007 and 2013, a total of 26 patients with sacral chordoma underwent computer navigation-aided surgery were included and followed for a minimum of 18 months. There were 21 primary cases and 5 recurrent cases, with a mean age of 55.8 years old （range： 35 84 years old）. Tumors were located above the level of the $3 neural foramen in 23 patients and below the level of the $3 neural foramen in 3 patients. Three-dimensional images were reconstructed with a computed tomography-based navigation system combined with the magnetic resonance images using the navigation software. Tumors were resected via a posterior approach assisted by the computer navigation. Mean follow-up was 38.6 months （range： 18-84 months）. Results： Mean operative time was 307 min. Mean intraoperative blood loss was 3065 ml. For computer navigation, the mean registration deviation during surgery was 1.7 ram. There were 18 wide resections, 4 marginal resections, and 4 intralesional resections. All patients were alive at the final follow-up, with 2 （7.7%） exhibiting tumor recurrence. The other 24 patients were tumor-free. The mean Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Score was 27.3 （range： 19-30）. Conclusions： Computer-assisted navigation can be safely applied to the resection of the sacral chordomas, allowing execution of preoperative plans, and achieving good oncological outcomes. Nevertheless, this needs to be accomplished by surgeons with adequate experience and skill.

Statistical extremes and peak factors in wind-induced vibration of tall buildings

In the structural design of tall buildings, peak factors have been widely used to predict mean extreme responses of tall buildings under wind excitations. Vanmarcke＇s peak factor is directly related to an explicit measure of structural reliability against a Gaussian response process. We review the use of this factor for time-variant reliability design by comparing it to the conven- tional Davenport＇s peak factor. Based on the asymptotic theory of statistical extremes, a new closed-form peak factor, the so-called Gamma peak factor, can be obtained for a non-Gaussian resultant response characterized by a Rayleigh distribution process. Using the Gamma peak factor, a combined peak factor method was developed for predicting the expected maximum resultant responses of a building undergoing lateral-torsional vibration. The effects of the standard deviation ratio of two sway components and the inter-component correlation on the evaluation of peak resultant response were also investigated. Utilizing wind tunnel data derived from synchronous multi-pressure measurements, we carried out a wind-induced time history response analysis of the Common- wealth Advisory Aeronautical Research Council （CAARC） standard tall building to validate the applicability of the Gamma peak factor to the prediction of the peak resultant acceleration. Results from the building example indicated that the use of the Gamma peak factor enables accurate predictions to be made of the mean extreme resultant acceleration responses for dynamic service- ability performance design of modem tall buildings.

Dietary analysis of the House Swift(Apus nipalensis)in Hong Kong using prey DNA in faecal samples

The Assessment of Ocean Wave Energy Along the Coasts of Taiwan

The wave energy resource around the coasts of Taiwan is investigated with wave buoy data covering a 3-year period （2007-2009）. Eleven study sites within the region bounded by the 21.5^°N-25.5°N latitudes and 118°E-122°E longitudes are selected for analysis. The monthly moving-average filter is used to obtain the low-frequency trend based on the available hourly data. After quantifying the wave power and annual wave energy, the substantial resource is the result of Penghu buoy station, which is at the northeastern side of Penghu Island in the Taiwan Strait. it is investigated that the Penghu sea area is determined to be the optimal place for wave energy production according to its abundant resource of northeasterly monsoon waves, sheltering of the Taiwan Island, operation and maintenance in terms of seasonal conditions, and constructability of wave power devices.

Moral imperative for immediate release of 2019-nCoV sequence data

Only two weeks ago, when the COVID-19 outbreak caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-Co V-2（previously named2019-nCoV）, started to look dangerous nationwide, we published an editorial in this space urging the instant posting of the population genomic data of the viruses;. Because these data are of grave significance to global human health, such an urgent call is justified and has been repeated elsewhere;. To our disappointment, the rate of releasing such data seems to have slowed down, when the need for them has become more acute.

Portable Dynamic Positioning Control System on A Barge in Short-Crested Waves Using the Neural Network Algorithm

This paper develops a nonlinear mathematical model to simulate the dynamic motion behavior of the barge equipped with the portable outboard Dynamic Positioning （DP） system in short-crested waves. The self-tuning Proportional- Derivative （PD） controller based on the neural network algorithm is applied to control the thrusters for optimal adjustment of the barge position in waves. In addition to the wave, the current, the wind and the nonlinear drift force are also considered in the calculations. The time domain simulations for the six-degree-of-freedom motions of the barge with the DP system are solved by the 4th order Runge-Kutta method which can compromise the efficiency and the accuracy of the simulations. The technique of the portable alternative DP system developed here can serve as a practical tool to assist those ships without being equipped with the DP facility while the dynamic positioning missions are needed.

Bayesian-inspired minimum contamination designs under a double-pair conditional effect model

Self-sustained oscillation for compressible cylindrical cavity flows

The presence of a cavity changes the mean and fluctuating pressure distributions. Similarities are observed between a cylindrical cavity and a rectangular cavity for a compressible *** type of cavity flow field depends on the diameter-to-depth ratio and the length-to-depth *** feedback loop is responsible for the generation of discrete acoustic tones. In this study, the selfsustained oscillation for a compressible cylindrical cavity flow was investigated experimentally. For open-type cavities, the power spectra show that the strength of resonance depends on the diameterto-depth ratio（4.43–43.0） and the incoming boundary layer thickness-to-depth ratio（0.72–7.0）. The effective streamwise length is used as the characteristic length to estimate the Strouhal number. At higher modes, there is a large deviation from Rossiter＇s formula for rectangular cavities. The gradient-based searching method was used to evaluate the values of the empirical parameters. Less phase lag and a lower convection velocity are observed.

Impact of IPMOE on nursing tasks in the medical ward: A time-motion study

Introduction:The In-patient Medication Order Entry System (IPMOE) was first implemented in the medical ward of Princess Margaret Hospital,Hong *** was a local developed close-loop system including prescription,dispensing and administration *** on its impact on nursing tasks would be important for practice improvement and subsequent system ***:The study was conducted to quantify the nursing times across medication-associated tasks for paper-based MAR and computer-based IPMOE,including change in the tasks and time patterns before and after IPMOE ***:This was a prospective observation study in medical wards before (Jan 2014-Jun 2014) and after (Mar 2015-Jun 2015) the implementation of *** conducted 8-hr observation studies of individual nurses with a customized application to time various pre-categorized nursing *** inferences and interrupted time series analysis was performed to identify the change in the intercept and trends over time after ***:The average number of medication-related tasks was significantly reduced from 61.07 to 29.81,a reduction of 31.26 episodes per duty (P < 0.001,95% CI 22.9-39.63).The time for the medication-related tasks was reduced from 32 min (SD =21.57) to 26.57 min (SD =11.35) and the medication administration time increased from 37.93 min (SD-14.78) to 44.37 min (SD 19.45),but there was no overall significant difference in the time spent on each duty (P =0.315) between the two *** improving trend in the delayed effect was observed (P =0.03),which indicated a run-in period for new application was needed in clinical ***:Our study had shown the time motion observation could be applied to measure the impact of the IPMOE in a busy clinical *** classification of activities,validation,objective measurement and longitudinal evaluation,the method could be applied in various systems as well as different clinical settings in
