Naturally Crosslinked Biocompatible Carbonaceous Liquid Metal Aqueous Ink Printing Wearable Electronics for Multi-Sensing and Energy Harvesting

Achieving flexible electronics with comfort and durability comparable to traditional textiles is one of the ultimate pursuits of smart wearables.Ink printing is desirable for e-textile development using a simple and inexpensive process.However,fabricating high-performance atop textiles with good dispersity,stability,biocompatibility,and wearability for high-resolution,large-scale manufacturing,and practical applications has remained challenging.Here,waterbased multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)-decorated liquid metal(LM)inks are proposed with carbonaceous gallium–indium micro-nanostructure.With the assistance of biopolymers,the sodium alginate-encapsulated LM droplets contain high carboxyl groups which non-covalently crosslink with silk sericin-mediated MWCNTs.E-textile can be prepared subsequently via printing technique and natural waterproof triboelectric coating,enabling good flexibility,hydrophilicity,breathability,wearability,biocompatibility,conductivity,stability,and excellent versatility,without any artificial chemicals.The obtained e-textile can be used in various applications with designable patterns and circuits.Multi-sensing applications of recognizing complex human motions,breathing,phonation,and pressure distribution are demonstrated with repeatable and reliable signals.Self-powered and energy-harvesting capabilities are also presented by driving electronic devices and lighting LEDs.As proof of concept,this work provides new opportunities in a scalable and sustainable way to develop novel wearable electronics and smart clothing for future commercial applications.

Self-polarized RGB device realized by semipolar micro-LEDs and perovskite-in-polymer films for backlight applications

In backlighting systems for liquid crystal displays,conventional red,green,and blue(RGB)light sources that lack polarization properties can result in a significant optical loss of up to 50%when passing through a polarizer.To address this inefficiency and optimize energy utilization,this study presents a high-performance device designed for RGB polarized emissions.The device employs an array of semipolar blueμLEDs with inherent polarization capabilities,coupled with mechanically stretched films of green-emitting CsPbBr3 nanorods and red-emitting CsPbI3-Cs4PbI6 hybrid nanocrystals.The CsPbBr3 nanorods in the polymer film offer intrinsic polarization emission,while the aligned-wire structures formed by the stable CsPbI3-Cs4PbI6 hybrid nanocrystals contribute to substantial anisotropic emissions,due to their high dielectric constant.The resulting device achieved RGB polarization degrees of 0.26,0.48,and 0.38,respectively,and exhibited a broad color gamut,reaching 137.2%of the NTSC standard and 102.5%of the Rec.2020 standard.When compared to a device utilizing c-plane LEDs for excitation,the current approach increased the intensity of light transmitted through the polarizer by 73.6%.This novel fabrication approach for polarized devices containing RGB components holds considerable promise for advancing next-generation display technologies.

Self-adhesive pads in defi brillation or cardioversion: risks due to unfamiliarity and recommendations

During cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR),defibrillation,or cardioversion,the use of self-adhesive pads instead of conventional paddles has gradually become common.In particular,it was recommended during the COVID-19 pandemic,as it allows defibrillation or cardioversion to be performed without close contact between the rescuer and patient.[1,2]Self-adhesive pads can minimize the downtime of chest compressions before and after defibrillation and protect the patient from electric arc formation,skin burns,and fi re.Once the pads are attached,electrocardiographic rhythm analysis,defibrillation,synchronous cardioversion,and cardiovascular support are all possible.Unlike paddles,self-adhesive pads can save time because the application of conductive jelly,repeated positioning,and application of 10-12 kg of pressure on the chest are not needed.The European Resuscitation Council(ERC)Guidelines 2021 state that the use of self-adhesive pads is recommended in advanced cardiovascular life support(ACLS).[3]Nevertheless,some medical staff still tend to prefer the use of conventional paddles instead of self-adhesive pads in hospitals.

Prostate health index can stratify patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on magnetic resonance imaging to reduce prostate biopsies

We aim to evaluate prostate health index as an additional risk-stratification tool in patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging.Men with biochemical or clinical suspicion of having prostate cancer who underwent multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in two tertiary centers(Queen Mary Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital,Hong Kong,China)between January 2017 and June 2022 were included.Ultrasound-magnetic resonance imaging fusion biopsies were performed after prostate health index testing.Those who only had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions were further stratified into four prostate health index risk groups and the cancer detection rates were analyzed.Out of the 747 patients,47.3%had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions only.The detection rate of clinically significant prostate cancer in this group was 15.0%.The cancer detection rates of clinically significant prostate cancer had statistically significant differences:5.3%in prostate health index<25.0,7.4%in prostate health index 25.0-34.9,17.9%in prostate health index 35.0-54.9,and 52.6%in prostate health index≥55.0(P<0.01).Among the patients,26.9%could have avoided a biopsy with a prostate health index<25.0,at the expense of a 5.3%risk of missing clinically significant prostate cancer.Prostate health index could be used as an additional risk stratification tool for patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions.Biopsies could be avoided in patients with low prostate health index,with a small risk of missing clinically significant prostate cancer.

Ensemble Wind Power Prediction Interval with Optimal Reserve Requirement

Wind power prediction interval(WPPI)models in the literature have predominantly been developed for and tested on specific case studies.However,wind behavior and characteristics can vary significantly across regions.Thus,a prediction model that performs well in one case might underperform in another.To address this shortcoming,this paper proposes an ensemble WPPI framework that integrates multiple WPPI models with distinct characteristics to improve robustness.Another important and often overlooked factor is the role of probabilistic wind power prediction(WPP)in quantifying wind power uncertainty,which should be handled by operating reserve.Operating reserve in WPPI frameworks enhances the efficacy of WPP.In this regard,the proposed framework employs a novel bi-layer optimization approach that takes both WPPI quality and reserve requirements into account.Comprehensive analysis with different real-world datasets and various benchmark models validates the quality of the obtained WPPIs while resulting in more optimal reserve requirements.

Environmentally adaptive reshaping of plant photomorphogenesis by karrikin and strigolactone signaling

Coordinated morphogenic adaptation of growing plants is critical for their survival and propagation under fluctuating environments.Plant morphogenic responses to light and warm temperatures,termed photomorphogenesis and thermomorphogenesis,respectively,have been extensively studied in recent decades.During photomorphogenesis,plants actively reshape their growth and developmental patterns to cope with changes in light regimes.Accordingly,photomorphogenesis is closely associated with diverse growth hormonal cues.Notably,accumulating evidence indicates that light-directed morphogenesis is profoundly affected by two recently identified phytochemicals,karrikins(KARs)and strigolactones(SLs).KARs and SLs are structurally related butenolides acting as signaling molecules during a variety of developmental steps,including seed germination.Their receptors and signaling mediators have been identified,and associated working mechanisms have been explored using gene-deficient mutants in various plant species.Of particular interest is that the KAR and SL signaling pathways play important roles in environmental responses,among which their linkages with photomorphogenesis are most comprehensively studied during seedling establishment.In this review,we focus on how the phytochemical and light signals converge on the optimization of morphogenic fitness.We also discuss molecular mechanisms underlying the signaling crosstalks with an aim of developing potential ways to improve crop productivity under climate changes.

Engineering behaviour of in situ cored deep cement mixed marine deposits subjected to undrained and drained shearing

The deep cement mixing(DCM)is used to improve the capacity and reduce the settlement of the soft ground by forming cemented clay columns.The investigation on the mechanical behaviour of the DCM samples is limited to either laboratory-prepared samples or in-situ samples under unconfined compression.In this study,a series of drained and undrained triaxial shearing tests was performed on the in-situ cored DCM samples with high cement content to assess their mechanical behaviours.It is found that the drainage condition affects significantly the stiffness,peak and residual strengths of the DCM samples,which is mainly due to the state of excess pore water pressure at different strain levels,i.***.being positive before the peak deviatoric stress and negative after the peak deviatoric stress,in the undrained tests.The slope of the failure envelope changes obviously with the confining pressures,being steeper at lower stress levels and flatter at higher stress levels.The strength parameters,effective cohesion and friction angle obtained from lower stress levels(c′0 andφ′0)are 400 kPa and 58°,respectively,which are deemed to be true for design in most DCM applications where the in-situ stress levels are normally at lower values of 50-200 kPa.Additionally,the computed tomography(CT)scanning system was adopted to visualize the internal structures of DCM samples.It is found that the clay pockets existing inside the DCM samples due to uneven mixing affect markedly their stress-strain behaviour,which is one of the main reasons for the high variability of the DCM samples.

Interplay of laser power and pore characteristics in selective laser melting of ZK60 magnesium alloys:A study based on in-situ monitoring and image analysis

This study offers significant insights into the multi-physics phenomena of the SLM process and the subsequent porosity characteristics of ZK60 Magnesium(Mg)alloys.High-speed in-situ monitoring was employed to visualise process signals in real-time,elucidating the dynamics of melt pools and vapour plumes under varying laser power conditions specifically between 40 W and 60 W.Detailed morphological analysis was performed using Scanning-Electron Microscopy(SEM),demonstrating a critical correlation between laser power and pore formation.Lower laser power led to increased pore coverage,whereas a denser structure was observed at higher laser power.This laser power influence on porosity was further confirmed via Optical Microscopy(OM)conducted on both top and cross-sectional surfaces of the samples.An increase in laser power resulted in a decrease in pore coverage and pore size,potentially leading to a denser printed part of Mg alloy.X-ray Computed Tomography(XCT)augmented these findings by providing a 3D volumetric representation of the sample internal structure,revealing an inverse relationship between laser power and overall pore volume.Lower laser power appeared to favour the formation of interconnected pores,while a reduction in interconnected pores and an increase in isolated pores were observed at higher power.The interplay between melt pool size,vapour plume effects,and laser power was found to significantly influence the resulting porosity,indicating a need for effective management of these factors to optimise the SLM process of Mg alloys.

Hierarchical Control Strategy for Load Regulation Based on Stackelberg Game Theory Considering Randomness

Demand response has been recognized as a valuable functionality of power systems for mitigating power imbalances.This paper proposes a hierarchical control strategy among the distribution system operator(DSO),load aggregators(LAs),and thermostatically controlled loads(TCLs);the strategy includes a scheduling layer and an executive layer to provide load regulation.In the scheduling layer,the DSO(leader)offers compensation price(CP)strategies,and the LAs(followers)respond to CP strategies with available regulation power(ARP)strategies.Profits of the DSO and LAs are modeled according to their behaviors during the load regulation process.Stackelberg game is adopted to capture interactions among the players and leader and to obtain the optimal strategy for each participant to achieve utility.Moreover,considering inevitable random factors in practice,e.g.,renewable generation and behavior of users,two different stochastic models based on sample average approximation(SAA)and parameter modification are formulated with improved scheduling accuracy.In the executive layer,distributed TCLs are triggered based on strategies determined in the scheduling layer.A self-triggering method that does not violate user privacy is presented,where TCLs receive external signals from the LA and independently determine whether to alter their operation statuses.Numerical simulations are performed on the modified IEEE-24 bus system to verify effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

100 W-class green hydrogen production from ammonia at a dual-layer electrode containing a Pt-Ir catalyst for an alkaline electrolytic process

Ammonia allows storage and transport of hydrogen over long distances and is an attractive potential hydrogen carrier.Electrochemical decomposition has recently been used for the conversion of ammonia to hydrogen and is regarded as a future technology for production of CO_(2)-free pure hydrogen.Herein,a heterostructural Pt-Ir dual-layer electrode is developed and shown to achieve successful long-term operation in an ammonia electrolyzer with an anion exchange membrane(AEM).This electrolyzer consisted of eight membra ne electrode assemblies(MEAs)with a total geometric area of 200 cm~2 on the anode side,which resulted in a hydrogen production rate of 25 L h~(-1).We observed the degradation in MEA performance attributed to changes in the anode catalyst layer during hydrogen production via ammonia electrolysis.furthermore,we demonstrated the relationship between the ammonia oxidation reaction(AOR)and the oxygen evolution reaction(OER).
