A Double Network Hydrogel with High Mechanical Strength and Shape Memory Properties

Double network(DN)hydrogels as one kind of tough gels have attracted extensive at-tention for their potential applications in biomedical and load-bearing ***,we import more functions like shape memory into the conventional tough DN hydro-gel *** synthesize the PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN hydrogels,of which the first network is a well-defined PEG(polyethylene glycol)network loaded with PDAC(poly(acryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride))strands,while the second network is formed by copolymerizing AAm(acrylamide)with AAc(acrylic acid)and cross-linker MBAA(N;N′-methylenebisacrylamide).The PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN gels exhibits high mechanical *** fracture stress and toughness of the DN gels reach up to 0.9 MPa and 3.8 MJ/m^3,*** with the conventional double network hydrogels with neutral polymers as the soft and ductile second network,the PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN hydrogels use P(AAm-co-AAc),a weak polyelectrolyte,as the second *** AAc units serve as the coordination points with Fe^3+ions and physically crosslink the second network,which realizes the shape memory property activated by the reducing ability of ascorbic *** results indicate that the high mechanical strength and shape memory properties,probably the two most important characters related to the potential application of the hydrogels,can be introduced simultaneously into the DN hydrogels if the functional monomer has been integrated into the network of DN hydrogels smartly.

Clinical Study on Suspension Pancreatic-Duct-Jejunum End-to-Side Continuous Suture Anastomosis in Pancreaticoduodenectomy

Objective To study the influence of Suspension Pancreatic-Duct-Jejunum End-to-Side Continuous Suture Anastomosis （SPDJCS） on the incidence of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy, and to analyze its applicability, safety, and efficacies. Methods A prospective controlled trial was conducted with 165 cases receiving pancreati- coduodenectomy in the Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery from January 2010 to May 2012. The patients were divided into Group A （end-to-end/end-to-side invaginated anastomosis, n=52）, Group B （end-to-side mucosal anastomosis, n=48）, and Group C （SPDJCS, n=65）. The preoperative data, intra- operative data, and operative outcomes （incidence of pancreatic fistula, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, peritoneal drainage, peritoneal hemorrhage, peritoneal abscess, delayed gastric emptying, pulmonary infection, postoperative infection, blood transfusion, and perioperative mortality） were com- pared among the 3 groups. Results The total incidence of pancreatic fistula was 13.9% （23/165） in all the 165 patients. The inci- dence in Group A and Group B was 23.1% （12/52） and 18.8% （9/48）, both higher than that in Group C [3.1% （2/65）, both P〈0.05]. Group C showed significantly better outcomes than group A and B in terms of the opera- tion time （5.5±1.2 hours vs. 6.1±1.1 hours, 5.5±1.2 hours vs. 6.3±1.5 hours）, volume of blood loss （412.0±205.0 mL vs. 525.0±217.0 mL, 412.0±205.0 mL vs. 514.0±217.0 mL）, and postoperative drainage amount of plasma tubes （175.0±65.0 mE vs. 275.0±80.0 mL, 175.0±65.0 mL vs. 255.0±75.0 mL）（all P〈0.05）, while Group A and Group B displayed no difference in these aspects （P〉0.05）. As complications other than pancreatic fistula were concerned, the three groups were not different from each other （P〉0.05）. Potassium-ion hybrid capacitors(PIHCs)are widely regarded as highly promising energy storage devices,due to their exceptional energy density,impressive power density,and abundant potassium ***,restricted by the inherent capacitive storage mechanism,the carbon cathodes possess a much lower specific capacity than battery-type ***,designing high-performance carbon cathodes is extremely urgent for the development of ***,N,O codoped porous carbon(NOPC)was fabricated through the NaCl hard template method and combined KOH/melamine chemical activation technique,displaying the characteristics of abundant N/O content(4.7 at%/16.9 at%),ultrahigh specific surface area(3092 m^(2)g^(-1))and hierarchical pore *** designed NOPC cathode delivers a high specific capacity(164.4 mAh.g^(-1)at 0.05 A.g^(-1))and superior cyclability(95.1%retention ratio at 2 A·g^(-1)over 2500 cycles).Notably,the adjustable ratio of micropores to mesopores facilitates the achievement of the optimal bal-ance between capacity and rate ***,the pseudocapacitance can be further augmented through the incorporation of N/O functional *** expected,the graphite//NOPC based PIHC possesses a high energy density of 113 Wh·kg-at 747 W·kg^(-1)and excellent capacity retention of 84.4% fter 400 cycles at 1.0 A·g^(-1).This work introduces a novel strategy for designing carbon cathodes that enhances the electrochemical performance of PIHCs.

Analysis of the clinical characteristics and refraction state in premature infants: a 10-year retrospective analysis

AIM: To report the visual outcomes and refractive status in premature infants with and without retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) who were or not treated. METHODS: The clinical records of all premature infants with or without ROP and with or without treatment between 2007 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Basic demographic data, serial changes in ROP incidence, treatment and outcomes, and the refractive states were analyzed. Correlations among myopia and astigmatism progression, birth weight, gestational age, and treatment methods were also ***: A total of 562 screened premature infants(all Chinese, 1124 eyes), were recruited with a 378:184 maleto-female ratio. Birth weight did not directly influence ROP incidence. The overall ROP incidence was 16.55%(93/562 cases). The incidences in boys and girls were 16.14%(33/378 cases) and 17.39%(32/184 cases), respectively, and this difference was not significant. However, all infants with serious ROP(stage IV and V) were male. Myopia combined with astigmatism was common in premature infants with and without ROP(30.99%, 172/555 cases), and myopic refraction(including myopia and myopia combined with astigmatism) was more common in premature infants with ROP(48.84%, 42/86 cases). In the >8.00 diopter group, there were significantly more ROP infants than without ROP. Myopic refraction(including myopia and myopia combined with astigmatism) was most common in infants with ROP after treatment(63.63%, 7/11 cases). CONCLUSION: The refractive state is different between premature infants and mature infants. Those treated for ROP had a higher chance of developing myopia, astigmatism, and higher diopter.

Controlling Pore Size and its Distribution of γ-Al_2O_3 Nanofiltration Membranes

The preparation process of γ-A12O3 nanofiltration membranes were studied by N2 absorption and desorption test and retention rate vs thickness gradient curve method. It was found that template and thermal treatment were key factors for controlling pore size and its distribution. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the BJH (Barret-Joyner-Halenda) desorption average pore diameter, BJH desorption cumulative volume of pores and BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface area of obtained membranes were about 3.9 nm, 0.33 cm3/g and 245 m2/g respectively, the pore size distribution was very narrow. Pore size decreased with the increasing of thickness and no evident change after the dense top layer was formed. The optimum thickness can be controlled by retention rate vs thickness gradient curve method.

Simultaneous preparation of TiO2 and ammonium alum,and microporous SiO2 during the mineral carbonation of titanium-bearing blast furnace slag

In this study,a route for simultaneous mineralization of CO2 and production of titanium dioxide and ammonium alum,and microporous silicon dioxide from titanium-bearing blast furnace slag(TBBF slag)was proposed,which is comprised of(NH4)2 S04 roasting,acid leaching,ammonium alum crystallization,silicic acid flocculation and Ti *** effects of relevant process parameters were systematically *** re sults showed that under the optimal roasting and leaching conditions about 85%of titanium and 84.6%of aluminum could be extracted while only 30%of silicon entered the leachate.84%of Al^3+was crystallized from the leachate in the form of ammonium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate with a purity up to 99.5 wt%.About 85%of the soluble silicic acid was flocculated with the aid of secondary alcohol polyoxyethylene ether 9(AEO-9)to yield a microporous SiO2 material(97.4 wt%)from the crystallized mother *** Al-and Si-depleted solution was then hydrolyzed to generate a titanium dioxide(99.1 wt%)with uniform particle size *** was figured out that approximately 146 kg TiO2 could be produced from 1000 kg of TBBF ***,the improved process is a promising method for industrial application.

Supramolecular binding of amines with functional magnesium tetraphenylporphyrin for CO_2 capture

In this work, magnesium tetraphenylporphyrin （MgTPP） was used as a new supramolecular amine-fixing agent. Once introduced, C02 easily competes with MgTPP for amines, leading to the release of MgTPP. The processes can be explained by the fact that the association constant （Kassoc） values of MgTPP with amines were in the range of 0.6 （ethanolamine） to 3.9 （ethylenediamine）, which are lower than the Kassoc values of C02 with these amines. MgTPP interacted with aniline, ethanolamine, pyrrolidine, or ethylenediamine to form 1：1 adducts. Ethylenediamine presents a stronger Kassoc value for MgTPP, so it was considered an optimal agent for C02 capture.

The growth periods（GPs, from planting/emergence to reproductive stage 8（R8） of soybean cultivars vary in different ecological regions, especially in China with a very complex soybean cropping system. In this study, a 3-yr experimental study was undertaken in three geographical locations of China from 2008 to 2010, including the Northeast（40.66-45.85°N）, Huang-Huai（34.75-38.04°N） and southern（22.82-30.60°N） eco-regions with about 250 accessions in each region to clarify the classification of maturity group（MG） and identify the cultivars with stable GP to increase the knowledge about the GP distribution of soybean cultivars in China. GPs of soybean cultivars in different eco-regions were significant different with a gradual decrease from 115-125 d in the Northeast part to the 85-100 d in the southern part of China. The geographical location was the major factor for GP of cultivars from the Northeast, while the year of planting was the major factor affecting the stability of GPs in Huang-Huai summer and southern summer soybean. AMMI2（additive main effects and multiplicativeinteraction）-Biplot analysis showed that the GPs of soybean cultivars from the Northeast eco-region have a comparatively satisfactory environmental stability. Moreover, soybean cultivars with moderate GP/MG and stable environment adaptability in different eco-regions were identified based on the linear regression and AMMI analysis, which was important for the accurate classification of soybean MGs in future. Taken together, our results reflected the genetic diversity, geographical distribution and environmental stability of the Chinese soybean GP trait. Soybean cultivars with stable GP for various Chinese eco-regions would be beneficial for Chinese soybean genetic improvement, varietal introduction, exchange, and soybean breeding program for wide adaptability.

Investigating metal-organic framework as a new pseudo-capacitive material for supercapacitors

A new application of metal organic framework （MOF） as a pseudo-capacitive material for supercapacitors is investigated. To this end, a simple nickel-based MOF, formulated Ni3（btc）2.12H2O, is synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction. As an electro-active material, such nickel-based MOF exhibits superior pseudo- capacitive behavior in KOH aqueous electrolyte with a high specific capacitance of 726 F g-1. Also, it displays good electrochemical stability with 94.6% of the initial capacitance over consecutive 1000 cycles. In addition, a simple asymmetric supercapacitor with a high energy density of 16.5 Wh kg-1 is successfully built using the nickel-based MOF as positive electrode and commercial activated carbon as negative electrode in KOH electrolyte.

Stochastic Resonance of a Periodically Driven Bistable System with Two Different Kinds of Time Delays

In this paper, we study the phenomenon of stochastic resonance （SR） in a periodically driven bistable system with correlations between multiplicative and additive white noise terms when there, are two different kinds of time delays existed in the deterministic and fluctuating forces, respectively. Using the small time delay approximation and the theory of signal-to-noise ratio （SNR） in the adiabatic limit, the expression of SNR is obtained. The effects of the delay time T in the deterministic force, and the delay time 8 in the fluctuating force on SNR are discussed. Based on the numerical computation, it is found that：（i） There appears a reentrant transition between one peak and two peaks and then to one peak again in the curve of SNR when the value of the time delay θ is increased. （ii） SR can be realized by tuning the time delay T or 8 with fixed noise, i.e., delay-induced stochastic resonance （DSR） exists.
