Magnitude and direction of temperature variability affect hospitalization for myocardial infarction and stroke:population-based evidence from Guangzhou,China

Relationships between nonoptimal temperatures and cardiovascular disease(CVD)mortality have been well documented.However,evidence of the association between temperature variability(TV)and CVD morbidity is limited.This study aimed to quantify the risk and burden of CVD-related hospitalization associated with the magnitude and direction of TV.Data on meteorology and population-based hospitalizations for myocardial infarction(MI)and stroke were collected in Guangzhou,China,from 2013 to 2017.Hourly temperature variability(HTV)was measured as the standard deviation of hourly temperature records over specific exposure days.The direction(upward or downward)of HTV was defined as the average daily mean temperature change relative to that of the previous day during the exposure period.Quasi-Poisson regression was applied to assess the impact of HTV after adjusting for the daily mean temperature,and the hospitalization fractions attributable to HTV were calculated.A 1℃-increase in HTV was significantly associated with a 2.24%and 1.72%increase in hospitalizations for MI and hemorrhagic stroke(HS)at lag 0–1 d,respectively,and a 1.55%increase in hospitalizations for ischemic stroke(IS)at lag 0–3 d.During the study period,5.99%,4.64%,and 4.53%of MI,HS,and IS hospitalizations,respectively,were attributable to HTV.The upward TV exerts acute effects on CVD hospital admissions,whereas the impact of downward TV generally lags.These findings highlight the importance of the magnitude and direction of temperature fluctuations,in addition to the mean level,in assessing the adverse health impacts of temperature variations.

Association between inflammatory bowel disease and all-cause dementia:A two-sample Mendelian randomization study

BACKGRouND Numerous observational studies have documented a correlation between inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)and an increased risk of dementia.However,the causality of their associations remains elusive.AIM To assess the causal relationship between IBD and the occurrence of all-cause dementia using the two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR)method.METHODS Genetic variants extracted from the large genome-wide association study(GWAS)for IBD(the International IBD Genetics Consortium,n=34652)were used to identify the causal link between IBD and dementia(FinnGen,n=306102).The results of the study were validated via another IBD GWAS(United Kingdom Biobank,n=463372).Moreover,MR egger intercept,MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier,and Cochran's Q test were employed to evaluate pleiotropy and heterogeneity.Finally,multiple MR methods were performed to estimate the effects of genetically predicted IBD on dementia,with the inverse variance weighted approach adopted as the primary analysis.RESULTS The results of the pleiotropy and heterogeneity tests revealed an absence of significant pleiotropic effects or heterogeneity across all genetic variants in outcome GWAS.No evidence of a causal effect between IBD and the risk of dementia was identified in the inverse variance weighted[odds ratio(OR)=0.980,95%CI:0.942-1.020,P value=0.325],weighted median(OR=0.964,95%CI:0.914-1.017,P value=0.180),and MR-Egger(OR=0.963,95%CI:0.867-1.070,P value=0.492)approaches.Consistent results were observed in validation analyses.Reverse MR analysis also showed no effect of dementia on the development of IBD.Furthermore,MR analysis suggested that IBD and its subtypes did not causally affect allcause dementia and its four subtypes,including dementia in Alzheimer's disease,vascular dementia,dementia in other diseases classified elsewhere,and unspecified dementia.CONCLUSION Taken together,our MR study signaled that IBD and its subentities were not genetically associated with all-cause dementia or its subtypes.Further large prospective studies are w

π-conjugated chromophore functionalized high-nuclearity titanium-oxo clusters containing structural unit of anatase for photocatalytic selective oxidation of sulfides

N-doping has significant influence in manipulating the properties of TiO2,and this has stimulated the development of N-donor-functionalized titanium-oxo clusters（TOCs） as molecular models to study the structure-property relationship.However,the structural type and photoresponsive application are still limited for such TOCs,especially regarding the high-nuclearity TOCs that contain structure unit of TiO2for photocatalysis.Herein,we showed the synthesis of a series of high-nuclearity TOCs 1-3 compounds using π-conjugated 1,10-phenanthroline（phen） as chromophore and N-donor functional ligand.Compound 1 features cocrystal structure composed of one [Ti26]2+and half [Ti22]2+,which renders it as the first cocrystallized TOC containing two positively charged species and phen-functionalized TOC showing the highest nuclearity up to 37 Ti centers.By adjusting the synthetic conditions,the individual {Ti22} and {Ti26} clusters can also be isolated as Compounds 2 and 3,respectively.The core structure of {Ti22} is mainly constructed from four lacunary {Ti4} derived from pentagonal {Ti（Ti）5} unit,while {Ti26} is built from four complete {Ti（Ti）5} unit.Notably,a {Ti8O14} structure unit of anatase TiO2can be identified in {Ti26}.Based on the unique structural features and proper photophysical and photochemical properties of Compounds 1-3,they are applied for photocatalytic sulfoxidation.Owing to the presence of anatase structure unit in {Ti26} and the synergistic effect from {Ti22} and {Ti26},the catalytic performance presents in the order of Compound 1> Compound 3> Compound 2.This work provides excellent models to understand the structureproperty relationship from the perspective of cocrystallization and Ti-O binding model and will further promote the application of TOCs as functional catalysts for organic transformation.

Molecular investigation into the transformation of recalcitrant dissolved organic sulfur in refinery sour water during stripping process

Refinery sour water primarily originates from the tops of towers in various units and coker condensate,and cannot be discharged directly to a wastewater treatment plant due to high levels of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and organic sulfur contents. Even after the recovery of H2S from the sour water by the stripping process, the effluent still contains a high concentration of dissolved organic sulfur(DOS), which can have a huge bad influence. While chemical composition of dissolved organic matter(DOM) in refinery wastewater has been extensively studied, the investigation of recalcitrant DOS from sour waters remains unclear. In the present study, chemical composition of sour water DOMs(especially DOS) was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy(excitation-emission matrix, EEM) and mass spectrometry,including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) and high-resolution Orbitrap MS. The GC-MS and EEM results showed that volatile and low-aromaticity compounds were effectively removed during the stripping process, while compounds with high hydrophilicity and humification degree were found to be more recalcitrant. The Orbitrap MS results showed that weak-polar oxygenated sulfur compounds were easier to be removed than oxygenated compounds. However, the effluent still contained significant amounts of sulfur-containing compounds with multiple sulfur atoms, particularly in the form of highly unsaturated and aromatic compounds. The Orbitrap MS/MS results of CHOS-containing compounds from the effluent indicate that the sulfur atoms may exist as sulfonates, disulfide bonds, thioethers. Understanding the composition and structure of sour water DOS is crucial for the development of effective treatment processes that can target polysulfide compounds and minimize their impact on the environment.

Fluoro-functionalized plant biomass adsorbent:Preparation and application in extraction of trace perfluorinated compounds from environmental water samples

Perfuorinated compounds(PFCs)are toxic and widely present in the environment,and therefore effective adsorbents are required to remove PFCs from environmental water.In the present study,a new type of fuorinated biomass materials was synthesized via an ingenious fuorosilanization reaction.These adsorbents were applied for the adsorption of 13typical PFCs,including perfuorocarboxylic acids(PFCAs)and perfuorosulfonic acids(PFSAs).By comparing their adsorption performance,Fluorinated cedar slag(FCS)was discovered to have the best absorption efficiency and enabled highly efficient enrichment of PFCs.The adsorption recovery of FCS with the investigated PFCs is greater than 90%under the optimal adsorption condition.Ascribed to the high affinity of F-F sorbent-sorbate interaction,FCS had good adsorption capacities of PFCs from aqueous solution,with the maximum adsorption capacity of 15.80 mg/g for PFOS and 10.71 mg/g for PFOA,respectively.Moreover,the adsorption time could be achieved in a short time(8 min).Using the FCS absorbent,an innovative FCS-solid phase extraction assisted with high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray-tandem mass spectrometry(FCS-SPE-HPLC-ESI-MS/MS)method was first developed to sensitively detect PFCs in the environmental water samples.The intra-day and inter-day recovery rates of the 13 compounds ranged from 90.7%-104.3%,with the RSD of 2.1%-4.7%(intra-day)and 2.5%-8.5%(inter-day),respectively.This research demonstrates the potential of the newly fuoro-functionalized plant biomass to adsorb PFCs from environmental water,with the advantages of high adsorption efficiencies,high antiinterference,easy operation and low economic cost.

A privileged strategy has been developed for the precise construction of enantioenriched azaspiro polycyclic scaffolds.Structurally diverse azaspiro polycycles bearing multiple contiguous stereocenters are obtained with excellent results(up to 99:1 e.r.,>95:5 d.r.) via sequential enantioselective four-component Ugi reactions/post-Ugi transformations with substrates containing prerequisite functional groups in the presence of anionic stereogenic-at-cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes.

Impact of urbanization on morbidity of hepatitis A:a national panel study in China during 2005–2018

Background The effect of urbanization on the morbidity of hepatitis A remains unclear. We aimed to estimate the association between various urbanization-related indices and hepatitis A morbidity in China.Methods Data on the annual morbidity of hepatitis A, urbanization-related measures (i.e., gross domestic product per capita, the number of hospitalization beds per 1000 persons, illiteracy rate, tap water coverage, motor vehicles per 100 persons, population density, and the proportion of arable land), and meteorological factors in 31 provincial-level administrative divisions of Chinese mainland during 2005–2018 were collected from the National Population and Health Science Data Sharing Platform, China Statistical Yearbooks, and the China Meteorological Data Sharing Service System, respectively. Generalized linear mixed models were applied to quantify the impacts of different urbanization-related indices on the morbidity of hepatitis A in China after adjusting for covariates.Results A total of 537,466 hepatitis A cases were reported in China during 2005–2018. The annual morbidity had a decline of 79.4% from 5.64 cases to 1.16 cases per 100,000 people. There were obvious spatial variations with higher morbidity in western China. Nationally, gross domestic product per capita and the number of hospitalization beds per 1000 persons increased from 14,040 to 64,644 CNY and from 2.45 to 6.03 during 2005–2018, respectively. The illiteracy rate decreased from 11.0 to 4.9%. Gross domestic product per capita [relative risk (RR) = 0.96, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.92–0.99], and the number of hospitalization beds per 1000 persons (RR = 0.79, 95%CI: 0.75–0.83) were associated with the declined morbidity of hepatitis A. By contrast, the increased morbidity of hepatitis A was linked to the illiteracy rate (RR = 1.04, 95%CI: 1.02–1.06). Similar influential factors were detected for children and adults, with greater effects witnessed for children.Conclusions People in the western region suffered the heaviest burden of hepatitis

Effect of post rolling stress on phase transformation behavior of microalloyed dual phase steel

The slow phase transformation of microalloyed dual phase steel makes the nonuniform stress and temperature fields during the post rolling cooling process have a significant impact on the phase transformation process.Given the relatively slow phase transformation of DP780 steel within the microalloyed dual phase steel series,the influence of stress on the phase transformation behavior of DP780 steel was investigated.To quantify the nonuniform thermal and stress conditions in the steel coil,a thermo-mechanical coupled finite element model of the hot-rolled strip cooling process was established.Based on the simulation data,DP780 steel was chosen as the research material,and Gleeble 3500 thermal simulation equipment was used for experimental validation.The thermal expansion curves were analyzed through regression to establish the dynamic model of DP780 steel phase transformation under stress.Subsequently,metallographic analysis was conducted to determine phase transformation type and grain size of DP780 steel.The results confirmed that the stress promotes the occurrence of semi-diffusion-type bainite transformation.Furthermore,an appropriate level of stress facilitates the growth of bainitic grains,while the increased stress inhibits the growth of ferritic grains.

Mechanism and control of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel during cooling process after hot rolling

After cooling in the hot rolling process,the metallographic structure of microalloyed dual-phase steel is nonuniform along the rolling direction,while the thickness fluctuation of microalloyed dual-phase steel with a nonuniform metallographic structure will occur during cold rolling.The mechanism of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steels was studied during the cooling process after hot rolling,and the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel was regulated during the cooling process after hot rolling through process optimization.First,the empirical equation of phase transformation temperature was measured by a dilatometer considering thermal expansion.Then,the phase field and temperature field of laminar cooling process were calculated to provide initial boundary conditions for the finite element model.After that,the coupling finite element model of the temperature phase transformation of the strip steel in coiling transportation process was established.The simulation results show that the different thermal contact conditions of the microalloyed dual-phase steel during coil transportation lead to uneven cooling of the coil,which leads to nonuniform transformation of the coil along the rolling direction.In addition,by prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading,the phenomenon of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel can be effectively controlled.The simulation results are applied to industrial production.The application results show that prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading can effectively improve the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel in the cooling process after hot rolling.

High quality repair of osteochondral defects in rats using the extracellular matrix of antler stem cells

BACKGRouND Cartilage defects are some of the most common causes of arthritis.Cartilage lesions caused by inflammation,trauma or degenerative disease normally result in osteochondral defects.Previous studies have shown that decellularized extracellular matrix(ECM)derived from autologous,allogenic,or xenogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)can effectively restore osteochondral integrity.AIM To determine whether the decellularized ECM of antler reserve mesenchymal cells(RMCs),a xenogeneic material from antler stem cells,is superior to the currently available treatments for osteochondral defects.METHODS We isolated the RMCs from a 60-d-old sika deer antler and cultured them in vitro to 70%confluence;50 mg/mL L-ascorbic acid was then added to the medium to stimulate ECM deposition.Decellularized sheets of adipocyte-derived MSCs(aMSCs)and antlerogenic periosteal cells(another type of antler stem cells)were used as the controls.Three weeks after ascorbic acid stimulation,the ECM sheets were harvested and applied to the osteochondral defects in rat knee joints.RESULTS The defects were successfully repaired by applying the ECM-sheets.The highest quality of repair was achieved in the RMC-ECM group both in vitro(including cell attachment and proliferation),and in vivo(including the simultaneous regeneration of well-vascularized subchondral bone and avascular articular hyaline cartilage integrated with surrounding native tissues).Notably,the antler-stem-cell-derived ECM(xenogeneic)performed better than the aMSC-ECM(allogenic),while the ECM of the active antler stem cells was superior to that of the quiescent antler stem cells.CONCLUSION Decellularized xenogeneic ECM derived from the antler stem cell,particularly the active form(RMC-ECM),can achieve high quality repair/reconstruction of osteochondral defects,suggesting that selection of decellularized ECM for such repair should be focused more on bioactivity rather than kinship.
