Brain activation and inhibition after acupuncture at Taichong and Taixi: resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging

Acupuncture can induce changes in the brain. However, the majority of studies to date have focused on a single acupoint at a time. In the present study, we observed activity changes in the brains of healthy volunteers before and after acupuncture atTaichong （LR3） andTaixi （ki3） using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Fifteen healthy volunteers underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging of the brain 15 minutes before acupuncture, then received acupuncture atTaichong andTaixi using the nail-pressing needle insertion method, after which the needle was retained in place for 30 minutes. Fifteen minutes after withdrawal of the needle, the volunteers underwent a further session of resting-state functional magnetic res-onance imaging, which revealed that the amplitude of low-frequency lfuctuation, a measure of spontaneous neuronal activity, increased mainly in the cerebral occipital lobe and middle occipital gyrus （Brodmann area 18/19）, inferior occipital gyrus （Brodmann area 18） and cuneus （Brodmann area 18）, but decreased mainly in the gyrus rectus of the frontal lobe （Brodmann area 11）, inferi-or frontal gyrus （Brodmann area 44） and the center of the posterior lobe of the cerebellum. The present ifndings indicate that acupuncture atTaichong andTaixi speciifcally promote blood lfow and activation in the brain areas related to vision, emotion and cognition, and inhibit brain areas related to emotion, attention, phonological and semantic processing, and memory.

Flexible and bio-integrated electronics have attracted great attention due to their enormous contributions to personalized medical *** sources,serving as one of the most important components,have been suffering from many problems,including deficient biocompatibility,poor stretchability,and unstable electrical outputs under deformed conditions,which limits the practical applications in flexible and bio-integrated ***,we reported a fully stretchable magnesium(Mg)–air battery based on dual-ions-conducting hydrogels(SDICH).The high-performance battery enables long-term operation with lighting 120 lighting emitting diodes(LEDs)for over 5 *** from the advanced materials and mechanical designs,the battery exhibits stability electrical outputs under stretching,which allows to operate ordinarily under various mechanical deformations without performance ***,the great biocompatibility of the battery offers great opportunity for biomedical applications,which is demonstrated by a self-adaption wound dressing *** in vitro and in vivo results prove that the self-adaption wound dressing can effectively prevent wound inflammation and promote wound *** exploiting thermal feedback mechanics,the system can adjust antibiotic release rate and dosage spontaneously according to the real-time wound *** proposed fully stretchable Mg-air battery and self-adaption wound dressing display great potential in skin-integrated electronics and personalized medicine.

Oncocytic adrenocortical tumor with uncertain malignant potential in pediatric population: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Oncocytic adrenocortical tumor(OACT)is rare,with few cases reported in the *** more than 20 cases in children have been *** clinical characteristics,diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of children with OACT are summarized based on a literature review,in order to improve the understanding of OACT in *** SUMMARY We report a case of a 17-mo-old patient who was admitted to our hospital due to symptoms of odynuria and fever,which are clinical features consistent with a functional adrenocortical *** patient was diagnosed with OACT of uncertain malignant *** tomography indicated a soft tissue giant tumor in the right adrenal region,approximately 4.3 cm×5.5 cm in *** nodular and speckled calcifications were observed in the *** patient received robot-assisted laparoscopic right adrenal tumor *** pathological results were consistent with OACT,and immunohistochemical results showed cytokeratin+/-,chromogranin A+,synaptophysin-,neuronspecific enolase-,S100-,ki67 about 10%,CD34-and D2-40-.After surgery,urinary tract ultrasonography was reviewed monthly,catecholamine hormone and sex hormone levels were examined every 2 mo and computed tomography was performed every 6 *** date,no tumor metastasis or recurrence has been identified in this *** levels of sex hormones and catecholamine hormones decreased to normal 1 mo after *** OACT is rare in the pediatric population,with few cases reported in the *** most pediatric OACTs are benign,malignant cases have been *** resection is the preferred option in most patients.

Spray-deposited Cu(In,Ga)Se (CIGS) absorber layers were heat-treated in N and Se atmosphere, respectively, in order to get a dense CIGS absorber layer for solar cells application. Heat treatment in N gas was designed to facilitate the growth of CIGS nanoparticle only by thermal energy, while that in Se vapor by thermal energy and Se induced thermo-chemical effects at the same time. A large number of pores existed in the as-sprayed absorber layer were still remained even after heat-treated in N atmosphere at 500℃for 1 h. On the other hand, heat treatment in Se vapor led to the formation of large particles up to 1μm, demonstrating that Se vapor seems to play a critical role in the growth of CIGS nanoparticles and hence the densification of nanoparticle derived CIGS layer.

Inhibitory effect of norcantharidin on the growth of human gallbladder carcinoma GBC-SD cells in vitro

BACKGROUND: Gallbladder carcinoma is a lethal malignant neoplasm with dismal surgical results. Unfortunately, the adjuvant therapies for gallbladder carcinoma such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy are also disappointing. We reported that norcantharidin (NCTD), a demethylated form of cantharidin, which is an active ingredient of the Chinese medicine Mylabris, was used against human gallbladder carcinoma GBC-SD cells. In the present study, we further studied the mechanism underlying the inhibitory effect of NCTD on growth of human gallbladder carcinoma GBC-SD cells in vitro. METHODS: Human gallbladder carcinoma GBC-SD cells were grown in cell culture and divided into a NCTD group and a control group. The inhibitory effect of NCTD on growth of GBC-SD cells was investigated by evaluation of proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis and morphological changes of the cells. Cell proliferation was assessed by tetrazolium-based colorimetric assay. The induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry. The morphological changes of the cells were observed by light- and electron-microscopy. To elucidate the anticancer mechanism of NCTD, expression of the proliferation-related gene proteins PCNA, ki-67, cyclin-D-1 and p27 and the apoptosis-related gene proteins Bcl-2, Bax and Survivin were determined by the streptavidin-biotin complex method and RT-PCR. RESULTS: NCTD inhibited the proliferation of GBCSD cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, with an IC50 of 56.18 mu g/ml at 48 hours. The flow cytometric profiles revealed that NCTD (at the IC50 for 48 hours) significantly increased the proportion of cells in G(2)/M phase and significantly decreased the proportion of cells in S phase, with a significantly increased rate of cell apoptosis. After treatment with the 48-hour IC50 dose of NCTD, cell shrinkage, vacuolar cytoplasm, membrane budding, karyorrhexis, karyolysis, chromosome condensation and chromatin aggregation in some GBCSD cells were observed by l

作为防水、防腐和地基加固等多种目的和手段之一,灌浆技术可应用于河底隧道或者海底隧道。水泥作为灌浆的主要材料具有强度时间相关特性。可是目前在大部分河底隧道在设计中不考虑水泥的这种强度时间相关特性。据此,提出以弹性波测试方法获得河底隧道施工中预注浆的强度时间相关特性,并采用数值模拟方法将获得的强度时间相关特性用于评价河底隧道的施工。为了获得预注浆区域的强度时间相关特性,进行了弹性波试验。然后把试验获得的预注浆区域的强度时间相关特性用于隧道施工仿真。计算结果表明,预注浆区域的强度时间相关特性不会对河底隧道的安全产生太大的影响。在模拟河底隧道施工时,发现其强度可以使用2～7d的预注浆区域的强度。分析结果也表明,通过强度和刚度的折减可模拟其强度时间相关特性。通过试验和数值模拟相结合的方式,提出预注浆区域的强度时间相关特性对河底隧道影响的方法,可为隧道工程的施工提供参考。

Inhibitory Effects of Kojic Acid on Phenoloxidase of Diamondback Moth Plutella xylostella

The effects of kojic acid on phenoloxidase (PO) of Plutella xylostella were investigated, when it had been partially purified by 40% saturated [(NH4)2SO4] and Sephadex G-100 gel filtration. Kojic acid showed inhibitory effects on both monophenolase and o-diphenolase activity of the PO. The inhibitor concentrations leading to 50% (IC50) activity lost were estimated to be 0.07 mmol L-1 for monophenolase and 1 mmol L-1 for diphenolase, respectively. Kojic acid can also prolong the lag time of PO for oxidation of L-tyrosine. The inhibition kinetics were analyzed by Lineweaver-Burk plots and kojic acid was found to be a reversible competitive inhibitor with the ki of 0.47 mmol L-1. The ability of kojic acid to inhibit the enzyme activity may be associated with its ability to chelate copper at the active site. In addition, the iron ion was found to shorten the lag time obviously, but have no important effect on the monophenolase activity.

Recombinant adenovirus containing hyper-interleukin-6 and hepatocyte growth factor ameliorates acute-on-chronic liver failure in rats

AIM: To investigate the protective efficacy of recombinant adenovirus containing hyper-interleukin-6 (Hyper-IL-6, HIL-6) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) (Ad-HGF-HIL-6) compared to that of recombinant adenovirus containing either HIL-6 or HGF (Ad-HIL-6 or Ad-HGF) in rats with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).METHODS: The recombinant adenoviruses containing HIL-6 and/or HGF were constructed. We established an ACLF model, and rats were randomly assigned to control, model, Ad-GFP, Ad-HIL-6, Ad-HGF or Ad-HGF-HIL-6 group. We collected serum and liver tissue samples to test pathological changes, biochemical indexes and molecular biological ***: Attenuated alanine aminotransferase, prothrombin time, high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), endotoxin, tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interferon-γ were observed in the Ad-HGF-, Ad-HIL-6- and Ad-HGF-HIL-6-treated rats with ACLF. Likewise, reduced hepatic damage and apoptotic activity, as well as reduced HMGB1 and Bax proteins, but raised expression of ki67 and Bcl-2 proteins and Bcl-2/Bax ratio were also observed in the Ad-HGF-, Ad-HIL-6- and Ad-HGF-HIL-6-treated rats with ACLF. More significant changes were observed in the Ad-HGF-HIL-6 treatment group without obvious side effects. Furthermore, caspase-3 at the protein level decreased in the Ad-HIL-6 and Ad-HGF-HIL-6 treatment groups, more predominantly in the latter ***: This study identifies that the protective efficacy of Ad-HGF-HIL-6 is more potent than that of Ad-HGF or Ad-HIL-6 in ACLF rats, with no significant side effects.
