Research on Characteristic Manifestations of Xiaochaihu Decoction Based on Association Rules Mining

Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the characteristic manifestations and contraindications of Xiaochaihu decoction(XD [It also stands for all the seven herbs in XD]) syndrome and to clarify the principle of using XD. Methods: By searching on the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 254 cases whose symptoms were relieved by XD and 48 cases who misused XD in ancient time were selected. Moreover, they are divided into two groups. Microsoft Excel 2016 was used as a storage tool. These two groups of cases were all treated with XD because of their similar manifestations, but therapeutic efficacies are reverse. The manifestations mislead doctors should be selected out to clarify the indications of using XD. Thus, the professional data mining software RapidMiner was used as a platform to do the frequent statistic and to create association rules between manifestations and herbs of both groups, respectively. After comparing the results of two groups, we can make a conclusion. Results: The characteristics of XD syndrome are alternative chills and fever, hypochondriac pain, and inflammatory swelling and pain(ear or breast). When any of these manifestations occur, XD can be used. Wiry pulse paired with alternative chills and fever, headache, thirst, or hypochondriac pain is also regarded as the indications of using XD. XD should not treat for fever paired with other manifestations, such as headache, delirium, or aversion to cold. In addition, the manifestations with high concurrence frequency do not mean the high correlation. Moreover, only according to the frequency, statistics cannot make correct conclusions. Conclusions:(1) XD is more fit for the excess syndrome such as excess fire in the liver or gallbladder meridians.(2) The medical records in which the XD is misused are also worth analyzing.(3) Association rules cannot be substituted with frequency statistics.

Inhibitory effects of polysaccharides isolated from Phellinus gilvus on benzo(a)pyrene-induced forestomach carcinogenesis in mice

AIM: Although polysaccharides from Phellinus mushrooms are a well-known material with anti-tumor properties, there is no information about the effect of polysaccharides from Phellinus gilvus (PG) on tumor. The modulating effect of polysaccharides isolated from PG on the benzo(a)pyrene (BaP)-induced forestomach carcinogenesis in ICR female mice was investigated in this ***: A forestomach carcinogenesis model was established in 40 ICR female mice receiving oral administration of BaP for 4 wk. The mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups (10 each). The mice in each group were treated with sterile water or PG for 4 and 8 wk (SW4,PGW4, SW8, and PGW8 groups). Eight or 12 wk after the first dose of BaP, forestomachs were removed for histopathological and RT-PCR ***: In histopathological changes and RT-PCR analysis, sterile water-treated mice showed significant hyperplasia of the gastric mucosa with a significantly increased expression of mutant p53 mRNA compared to mice treated with PG for 8 ***: Polysaccharides isolated from PG may inhibit BaP-induced forestomach carcinogenesis in mice bydown-regulating mutant p53 expression.

A series of graphene-TiO2 composites was fabricated from graphene oxide and titanium n-butoxide(TNB) by an ultrasonic-assisted *** structure and composition of the nanocomposites were characterized by Raman spectroscopy,BET surface area measurements,X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,and ultraviolet-visible absorption *** average size of the TiO2 nanoparticles on the graphene nanosheets was controlled at around 10-15 nm without using surfactant,which is attributed to the pyrolysis and condensation of dissolved TNB into TiO2 by ultrasonic *** catalytic activity of the composites under ultrasonic irradiation was determined using a rhodamine B(RhB) *** graphene-TiO2 composites possessed a high specific surface area,which increased the decolorization rate for RhB *** is because the graphene and TiO2 nanoparticles in the composites interact strongly,which enhances the photoelectric conversion of TiO2 by reducing the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.

Optical Switching of a Quantum Cascade Laser in Continuous Wave Operation

We demonstrate an optical switching in a middle infrared continuous-wave quantum cascade laser operated in single mode by illuminating its front facet with a near infrared laser. A decrease in the laser net gain is observed in the amplified spontaneous emission spectrum. This is attributed to an increase of the carrier concentration caused by the near infrared excitation. The net gain reduction allows the quantum cascade laser to be completely switched off from single mode lasing. This optical switching can be used to convert near infrared signals into middle infrared signals for free space communication.

Predicting tumor response after preoperative chemoradiation using clinical parameters in rectal cancer

AIM: To evaluate the clinical parameters and identify a better method of predicting pathological complete response (pCR). METHODS: We enrolled 249 patients from a database of 544 consecutive rectal cancer patients who underwent surgical resection after preoperative chemoradiation therapy (PCRT). A retrospective review of morphological characteristics was then performed to collect data regarding rectal examination findings. A scoring model to predict pCR was then created. To validate the ability of the scoring model to predict complete ***: Seventy patients (12.9%) achieved a pCR. A multivariate analysis found that pre-CRT movability (P = 0.024), post-CRT size (P = 0.018), post-CRT morphology (P = 0.023), and gross change (P = 0.009) were independent predictors of pCR. The accuracy of the scoring model was 76.8% for predicting pCR with the threshold set at 4.5. In the validation set, the accuracy was 86.7%. CONCLUSION: Gross changes and morphological findings are important predictors of pathological response. Accordingly, PCRT response is best predicted by a combination of clinical, laboratory and metabolic information.

DEAR EDITOR,Big cats,such as Amur tigers(Panthera tigris altaica)and Amur leopards(*** orientalis),are apex predator and have evolved specialized traits for hunting and carnivory(Moya et al.,2022),thus playing a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem integrity by regulating prey-predator ***,human-induced pressures,habitat fragmentation,and environmental alterations have restricted these species in small and isolated ***,all extant big cats are categorized as endangered or threatened according to their conservation *** tigers and Amur leopards share overlapping geographic ranges,habitats,and certain prey species in the forests of Northeast Asia(Jiang et al.,2015).To reduce interspecies conflict,these carnivores exhibit differentiated dietary and temporal *** tigers predominantly prey on large ungulates,while Amur leopards hunt small to medium-sized animals(Sugimoto et al.,2016).Additionally,they occupy different temporal niches,with tigers being active at night and leopards more active during the *** spatial and temporal niche partitioning,interspecific competition between these two species is ***,benefiting from their greater size,have a competitive advantage over leopards,which can manifest in occasional leopard predation by tigers and declines in leopard populations with increasing tiger density(Jiang et al.,2015).Tigers also displace leopards from marginal habitats in nature reserves where they coexist.

In this letter,we discuss the topic of necessity of routine laboratory monitoring during isotretinoin treatment for *** to park and colleagues,it is advisable to monitor the levels of triglycerides,alanine aminotransferase,and aspartate aminotransferase every 5 to 6 ***,the levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein should be checked within the first two months of *** is a commonly prescribed agent mainly used to treat *** its high effectiveness,it necessitates regular monitoring of laboratory parameters due to its side effect ***,there remains a lack of consensus on the appropriate frequency for monitoring these parameters during treatment with *** letter will provide insight into this complex and controversial *** on existing literature,we concluded that the incidence of changes in lipid and liver aminotransferase levels during isotretinoin treatment for acne was low and likely clinically *** generally healthy people,we recommend testing lipid and liver profiles once at baseline and a second time at the peak ***,frequent testing might still be beneficial in certain populations of patients.
