Endoscopic papillary balloon intermittent dilatation and endoscopic sphincterotomy for bile duct stones

AIM: To compare the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic papillary balloon intermittent dilatation (EPBID) and endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) in the treatment of common bile duct stones. METHODS: From March 2011 to May 2012, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was performed in 560 patients, 262 with common bile duct stones. A total of 206 patients with common bile duct stones were enrolled in the study and randomized to receive either EPBID with a 10-12 mm dilated balloon or EST (103 patients in each group). For both groups a conventional reticular basket or balloon was used to remove the stones. After the procedure, routine endoscopic nasobiliary drainage was performed. RESULTS: First-time stone removal was successfully performed in 94 patients in the EPBID group (91.3%) and 75 patients in the EST group (72.8%). There was no statistically significant difference in terms of operation time between the two groups. The overall incidence of early complications in the EPBID and EST groups was 2.9% and 13.6%, respectively, with no deaths reported during the course of the study and follow-up. Multiple regression analysis showed that the success rate of stone removal was associated with stone removal method [odds ratio (OR): 5.35; 95%CI: 2.24-12.77; P=0.00], the transverse diameter of the stone (OR: 2.63; 95%CI: 1.19-5.80; P=0.02) and the presence or absence of diverticulum (OR: 2.35; 95%CI: 1.03-5.37; P=0.04). Postoperative pancreatitis was associated with the EST method of stone removal (OR: 5.00; 95%CI: 1.23-20.28; P=0.02) and whether or not pancreatography was performed (OR: 0.10; 95%CI: 0.03-0.35; P=0.00). CONCLUSION: The EPBID group had a higher success rate of stone removal with a lower incidence of pancreatitis compared with the EST group.

Drought is a major constraint in maize production worldwide. We studied quantitative trait loci （QTL） underlying drought tolerance for maize plants grown in two different environments. Traits investigated included ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting. A genetic linkage map was constructed with 120 simple sequence repeat （SSR） markers based on an F2 population derived from a cross between D5 （resistant parent） and 7924 （susceptible parent）. Correlation and heritability were calculated. QTLs of these traits were identified by composite interval mapping combined with a linkage map covering 1 790.3 cM. The markers were arranged in ten linkage groups. QTL mapping was made of the mean trait performance of the 180 F2：3 population. The results showed five, five, six, four, and five QTLs for ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting under full irrigation condition, respectively, and four, seven, six, four, and four QTLs for ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting under severe late stress conditions, respectively. Especially the four QTLs detected for five traits in 2008 and 2009. The universal QTLs information generated in this study will aid in undertaking an integrated breeding strategy for further genetic studies in drought tolerance improvement in maize.

Electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2)(CO_(2)RR)to multi-electron(>2e–)products provides a green and sustainable route for producing fuels and *** the second metal element is a feasible strategy for"managing"the key intermediate on Cu-based materials to further improve the CO_(2)RR catalytic *** this work,palladium,which promises the generation of CO,was introduced into the poly(ionic liquid)-based copper hybrid(Cu@PIL)to construct a novel Cu-Pd bimetallic electrocatalyst(Cu@PIL@Pd).Remarkably,with a small dosage of palladium(2.0 mol%compared with Cu),a high faradaic efficiency(FE)for C_(2+)products(68.7%)was achieved at–1.01 V(with respect to the reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE),the same below)with a high partial current density of 178.3 mA cm^(-2).Meanwhile,high selectivity towards CH4(FE=42.5%)and corresponding partial current density of 172.8 mA cm^(-2)were obtained on the same catalyst at–1.24 V,signifying a significant potential-dependent *** studies reveal that both copper and palladium oxides are reduced to metallic states during the CO_(2)*** presence of the adjoint copper phase and the highly dispersed electrostatic layer promote the generation of CO on the palladium components(both the PdO_(2)phase and the Pd(II)site).Besides,the local CO^(*)was enriched by the significant diffusion resistance of CO in the PIL *** spillover of CO^(*)from Pd sites to the adjoint Cu sites,accompanied by the increased local concentration of CO^(*)around Cu sites,accounted for the observed good CO_(2)RR catalytic performance,especially the high C_(2+)product selectivity.

In the present study, genetic differentiation of Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius） biotype Q was analyzed based on mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I （mt CO1） gene sequence. The results showed that B. tabaci biotype Q could be separated into two subclades, which were labeled as subclades Q1 and Q2. Subclade Q1 was probably indigenous to the regions around the Mediterranean area and subclade Q2 to Israel or Cyprus. It was because B. tabaci was composed of several genetically distinct groups with a strong geographical association between more closely related biotypes. Not all of the B. tabaci biotype Q in the non-Mediterranean countries come from the same regions. Until now, all B. tabaci biotype Q in China were grouped into subclade Q 1. The B. tabaci biotype Q introduced into the US included both subclades Q 1 and Q2. The genetic structure analysis showed higher genetic variation of subclade Q 1 than that of subclade Q2.

Ozonesondes are widely used to obtain ozone concentration profiles from the surface to the upper atmosphere.A kind of double-cell ozonesonde has been developed at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics （IAP）,Chinese Academy of Sciences （named the ＂IAP ozonesonde＂） based on previous experience over the past 20 years of developing the singlecell GPSO3 *** IAP ozonesonde is of the Electrochemical Concentration Cell （ECC） type.A detailed description of the IAP ozonesonde is firstly provided in the present paper,followed by a presentation of results from a series of launches carried out to evaluate its *** analysis involved comparing its observations with measurements from the GPSO3 and ECC ozonesondes （Model type ENSCI-Z） as well as a Brewer *** results showed that the IAP ozonesonde is a vast improvement over the GPSO3 ozonesonde,able to capture vertical ozone structures very well and in good agreement with ECC ozonesonde *** average difference in the ozone partial pressure between the IAP and ECC ozonesondes was 0.3 mPa from the surface to 2.5 km,close to zero from 2.5 to 9 km and generally less than 1 mPa for layers higher than 9 *** apparent deviation is likely caused by a decreasing pump flow rate in the IAP ozonesonde which needs further *** total ozone amounts measured by the IAP ozonesonde profiles were highly comparable with the Brewer data with a relative difference of 6％.The development of the IAP ozonesonde and its strong performance will surely accelerate the process of conventional observations of ozone profiles over China in the near future as well as provide more data for ozone research in general.

Vitamin B is essential for maintaining normal life activities in humans and animals who have to intake the microelement from the outside, especially from cereal products. In the present study 166 Chinese and foreign wheat cultivars planted in two environments were characterized for variation in vitamin B1 and B2 contents. A genome-wide association study(GWAS) using the wheat 90 K SNP assay identified 17 loci for vitamin B1 and 7 for vitamin B2 contents. linear regression analysis showed a significantly positive correlation of the number of favorable alleles with vitamin B1 and B2 contents. Marker-trait associations(MTAs) at IWB43809(6AS, 0cM) and IWB69903(6AS, 13cM) were new and stable, and significantly associated with vitamin B1 content across two environments. The loci identified in this study and associated SNP markers could be used for improvement of vitamin B1 and B2 contents to obtain superior quality along with grain yield in wheat.
