Dear Editor,Utilization of heterosis is fundamental to modern agricultural improvement and contributes significantly to food security and agricultural development(Ouyang et al.,2022).However,heterosis of F,hybrids cannot be stably inherited.Apomixis,or asexual reproduction through seeds,offers the potential for the fixation of heterosis in F,hybrids and the formation of clonal offspring,which could have considerable implications for plant breeding and agriculture(Schmidt,2020).But naturally occurring apomixis has never been found in major crops.Recently,synthetic apomixis has been successfully generated by inducing incomplete meiotic development combined with parthenogenesis development to produce cloned rice(Oryza sativa)seeds(Khanday et al.,2019;Wang et al.,2019;Vernet et al.,2022;wei et al.,2023).

In a perfect quantum key distribution(QKD)protocol,quantum states should be prepared and measured with mutually unbiased bases(MUBs).However,in a practical QKD system,quantum states are generally prepared and measured with imperfect MUBs using imperfect devices,possibly reducing the secret key rate and transmission distance.To analyze the security of a QKD system with imperfect MUBs,we propose virtual MUBs to characterize the quantum channel against collective attack,and analyze the corresponding secret key rate under imperfect state preparation and measurement conditions.More generally,we apply the advantage distillation method for analyzing the security of QKD with imperfect MUBs,where the error tolerance and transmission distance can be sharply improved.Our analysis method can be applied to benchmark and standardize a practical QKD system,elucidating the security analysis of different QKD protocols with imperfect devices.

Objective Studies on the relationship between iodine,vitamin A(VA),and vitamin D(VD)and thyroid function are limited.This study aimed to analyze iodine and thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH)status and their possible relationships with VA,VD,and other factors in postpartum women.Methods A total of 1,311 mothers(896 lactating and 415 non-lactating)from Hebei,Zhejiang,and Guangxi provinces were included in this study.The urinary iodine concentration(UIC),TSH,VA,and VD were measured.Results The median UIC of total and lactating participants were 142.00µg/L and 139.95µg/L,respectively.The median TSH,VA,and VD levels in all the participants were 1.89 mIU/L,0.44μg/mL,and 24.04 ng/mL,respectively.No differences in the UIC were found between lactating and non-lactating mothers.UIC and TSH levels were significantly different among the three provinces.The rural UIC was higher than the urban UIC.Obese mothers had a higher UIC and a higher prevalence of excessive TSH.Higher UICs and TSHs levels were observed in both the VD deficiency and insufficiency groups than in the VD-sufficient group.After adjustment,no linear correlation was observed between UIC and VA/VD.No interaction was found between vitamins A/D and UIC on TSH levels.Conclusion The mothers in the present study had no iodine deficiency.Region,area type,BMI,and VD may be related to the iodine status or TSH levels.

Due to the high theoretical specific capacity(1675 mAh·g-1),low cost,and high safety of the sulfur cathodes,they are expected to be one of the most promising rivals for a new generation of energy storage systems.However,the shuttle effect,low conductivity of sulfur and its discharge products,volume expansion,and other factors hinder the commercialization of lithium-sulfur batteries（LSBs）.The development of sulfur-fixing materials and the design of multifunctional materials to enhance the electrochemical performance of LSBs have been the main research priorities in recent years.Because of the advantages of high conductivity,built-in electric field,and good synergism,more and more researchers have employed heterostructure into sulfur-fixing materials to enhance the catalytic and absorption ability for polysulfides.In this review,the principle of heterostructure and the mechanism of enhancing the performance of lithium-sulfur batteries are described.The applications of heterostructure in cathode and interlayer of LSBs in the latest years are summarized.Finally,the cutting-edge troubles and possibilities of heterostructures in LSBs are briefly presented.

BACKGROUND B56εis a regulatory subunit of the serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2A,which is abnormally expressed in tumors and regulates various tumor cell functions.At present,the application of B56εin pan-cancer lacks a comprehensive analysis,and its role and mechanism in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are still unclear.The Cancer Genome Atlas,Genotype-Tissue Expression,Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis,and Tumor Immune Estimation Resource databases were used to analyze B56εexpression,prognostic mutations,somatic copy number alterations,and tumor immune characteristics in 33 tumors.The relationships between B56εexpression levels and drug sensitivity,immuno-therapy,immune checkpoints,and human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-related genes were further analyzed.Gene Set Enrichment Analysis(GSEA)was performed to reveal the role of B56εin HCC.The Cell Counting Kit-8,plate cloning,wound healing,and transwell assays were conducted to assess the effects of B56εinterference on the malignant behavior of HCC cells.RESULTS In most tumors,B56εexpression was upregulated,and high B56εexpression was a risk factor for adrenocortical cancer,HCC,pancreatic adenocarcinoma,and pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma(all P<0.05).B56εexpression levels were correlated with a variety of immune cells,such as T helper 17 cells,B cells,and macro-phages.There was a positive correlation between B56εexpression levels with immune checkpoint genes and HLA-related genes(all P<0.05).The expression of B56εwas negatively correlated with the sensitivity of most chemotherapy drugs,but a small number showed a positive correlation(all P<0.05).GSEA analysis showed that B56εexpression was related to the cancer pathway,p53 downstream pathway,and interleukin-mediated signaling in HCC.Knockdown of B56εexpression in HCC cells inhibited the proliferation,migration,and invasion capacity of tumor cells.Core Tip:The expression of protein phosphatase 2A(PP2A)subunit B56εis up-regulated in most tumors,and its high expression is a risk factor for adrenocortical c

Due to the rapid development of obesity and related metabolic diseases in the world， it is particularly important to explore the ability of novel materials in regulating obesity. In this study， C57BL/6J obese mice were used as objects， and 16S rRNA gene sequencing and lipidomics techniques were used to explore the regulatory effect and mechanism of the P. brevitarsis ethanol extract (50%， v/v) against obesity. Our results showed that P. brevitarsis extract could significantly reduce the body weight， triglyceride (TG)， total cholesterol (TC)， low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)， and pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α， IFN-γ， and IL-6) levels of HFD-fed mice. Moreover， the P. brevitarsis extract changed the composition and relative abundance of its gut microbiota， especially increasing Akkermansia muciniphila. Meanwhile， the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) was increased， especially acetic acid and butyric acid， which leads to a decrease in the synthesis and accumulation of lipids in the liver. Furthermore， the P. brevitarsis extract also induced the difference in lipid synthesis in the liver by down-regulating the mRNA levels of SREPB-1C， FAS， and ACC. Therefore， this research provided preliminary work and reference for the development of P. brevitarsis as a functional food for anti-obesity.

Alzheimer's disease （AD） is a common neurodegenerative disease， and oxidative stress induced by Aβ deposition is the key cause of neuronal apoptosis in AD patient. Hydroxy-α-sanshool （HAS） is the predominant flavour substances in the pericarp of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. （Rutaceae family）， which is a known condiment food and herbal medicine in China. We attempt to comprehensively elucidate the pathway and related mechanisms of HAS therapy on AD through in vivo and in vitro experiments. The results showed that HAS could inhibit cell apoptosis， suppress the reactive oxygen species （ROS）， and increase the antioxidative enzymes in Aβ1-42induced HT22 cells. In vivo， HAS attenuated the learning and memory impairment in senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 （SAMP8） mice， and protected neuronal cells in hippocampus. Interestingly， the 16S rRNA gene sequencing results showed HAS could restore the richness and diversity of the intestinal microbiota， reduce the abundance of Lactobacillus， and increase the abundance of Bateroides and Parabacteroides. Moreover， the contents of 10 metabolites were significantly changed after HAS treatment， which was beneficial to treat AD. In conclusion， HAS could inhibit apoptosis in nerve cells by attenuating Aβ induced oxidative stress level， while it can also influence the metabolic pathways and affect the gut microbiota composition of AD mice.

As the most common internal modification of mRNA,Ne-methyladenosine(m^(6)A)and its regulators modulate gene expression and play critical roles in various biological and patholog-ical processes including tumorigenesis.It was reported previously that m^(6)A methyltransferase(writer),methyltransferase-like 3(METTL3)adds m^(6)A in primary microRNAs(pri-miRNAs)and fa-cilitates its processing into precursor miRNAs(pre-miRNAs).However,it is unknown whether m^(6)A modification also plays a role in the maturation process of pre-miRNAs and(if so)whether such a function contributes to tumorigenesis.Here,we found that YTHDF2 is aberrantly overexpressed in acute myeloid leukemia(AML)patients,especially in relapsed patients,and plays an onco-genic role in AML.Moreover,YTHDF2 promotes expression of miR-126-3p(also known as miR-126,as it is the main product of precursor miR-126(pre-miR-126)),a miRNA that was reported as an oncomiRNA in AML,through facilitating the processing of pre-miR-126 into mature miR-126.Mechanistically,YTHDF2 recognizes m^(6)A modification in pre-miR-126 and recruits AGO2,a regulator of pre-miRNA processing,to promote the maturation of pre-miR-126.YTHDF2 posi-tively and negatively correlates with miR-126 and miR-126's downstream target genes,respec-tively,in AML patients,and forced expression of miR-126 could largely rescue YTHDF2/Ythdf2 depletion-mediated suppression on AML cell growth/proliferation and leukemogenesis,indi-cating that miR-126 is a functionally important target of YTHDF2 in AML.Overall,our studies not only reveal a previously unappreciated YTHDF2/miR-126 axis in AML and highlight the ther-apeutic potential of targeting this axis for AML treatment,but also suggest that m^(6)A plays a role in pre-miRNA processing that contributes to tumorigenesis.

Because of the low price and abundant reserves of sodium compared with lithium,the research of sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)in the field of large-scale energy storage has returned to the research spotlight.Layered oxides distinguish themselves from the mains cathode materials of SIBs owing to their advantages such as high specific capacity,simple synthesis route,and environmental benignity.However,the commercial development of the layered oxides is limited by sluggish kinetics,complex phase transition and poor air stability.Based on the research ideas from macro-to micro-scale,this review systematically summarizes the current optimization strategies of sodium-ion layered oxide cathodes(SLOC)from different dimensions:microstructure design,local chemistry regulation and structural unit construction.In the dimension of microstructure design,the various structures such as the microspheres,nanoplates,nanowires and exposed active facets are prepared to improve the slow kinetics and electrochemical performance.Besides,from the view of local chemistry regulation by chemical element substitution,the intrinsic electron/ion properties of SLOC have been enhanced to strengthen the structural stability.Furthermore,the optimization idea of endeavors to regulate the physical and chemical properties of cathode materials essentially is put forward from the dimension of structural unit construction.The opinions and strategies proposed in this review will provide some inspirations for the design of new SLOC in the future.

BACKGROUND Although chronic erosive gastritis(CEG)is common,its clinical characteristics have not been fully elucidated.The lack of consensus regarding its treatment has resulted in varied treatment regimens.AIM To explore the clinical characteristics,treatment patterns,and short-term outcomes in CEG patients in China.METHODS We recruited patients with chronic non-atrophic or mild-to-moderate atrophic gastritis with erosion based on endoscopy and pathology.Patients and treating physicians completed a questionnaire regarding history,endoscopic findings,and treatment plans as well as a follow-up questionnaire to investigate changes in symptoms after 4 wk of treatment.RESULTS Three thousand five hundred sixty-three patients from 42 centers across 24 cities in China were included.Epigastric pain(68.0%),abdominal distension(62.6%),and postprandial fullness(47.5%)were the most common presenting symptoms.Gastritis was classified as chronic non-atrophic in 69.9%of patients.Among those with erosive lesions,72.1%of patients had lesions in the antrum,51.0%had multiple lesions,and 67.3%had superficial flat lesions.In patients with epigastric pain,the combination of a mucosal protective agent(MPA)and proton pump inhibitor was more effective.For those with postprandial fullness,acid regurgitation,early satiety,or nausea,a MPA appeared more promising.CONCLUSION CEG is a multifactorial disease which is common in Asian patients and has non-specific symptoms.Gastroscopy may play a major role in its detection and diagnosis.Treatment should be individualized based on symptom profile.
