Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) represents the most common kind of mesenchymal tumor that arises from the alimentary tract. GIST is currently defined as a gastrointestinal tract mesenchymal tumor showing CD117 (c-kit protein) positivity at immunohistochemistry. Throughout the whole length of the gastrointestinal tract, GIST arises most commonly from the stomach followed by the small intestine, the colorectum, and the esophagus. Only 3%-5% of GISTs occur in the duodenum, and especially, if GIST arises from the C loop of the duodenum, it can be difficult to differentiate from the pancreas head mass because of its anatomical proximity. Here, we report a case of duodenal GIST, which was assessed as a pancreatic head tumor preoperatively.

1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 （VD3）, an active form of Vitamin D, is photosynthesized in the skin of vertebrates in response to solar ultraviolet B radiation （UV-B）. VD3 deficiency can cause health problems such as immune disease, metabolic disease, and bone disorders. It has also been demonstrated that VD3 is involved in reproductive functions. Female sex hormones such as estrogen and progesterone are biosynthesized mainly in ovarian granulosa cells as the ovarian follicle develops. The functions of sex hormones include regulation of the estrus cycle and puberty as well as maintenance of pregnancy in females. In this study, we isolated granulosa cells from porcine ovaries and cultured them for experiments. To examine the effects of VD3 on ovarian granulosa cells, the mRNA and protein levels of genes were analyzed by Real-time PCR and Western blotting assay. Production of progesterone from granulosa cells was also measured by ELISA assay. As a result, transcriptional and translational regulation of progesterone biosynthesis-related genes in granulosa cells was significantly altered by VD3. Furthermore, progesterone concen- trations in porcine granulosa cell-cultured media decreased in response to VD3. These results show that VD3 was a strong regulator of sex steroid hormone production in porcine granulosa cells, suggesting that vitamin D deficiency may result in inappropriate sexual development of industrial animals and eventually economic loss.

Indole-3-acetic acid （IAA）, a major plant auxin, is produced in both tryptophan-dependent and tryptophan-independent pathways. A major pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana generates IAA in two reactions from tryptophan. Step one converts tryptophan to indole-3-pyruvic acid （IPA） by tryptophan aminotransferases followed by a rate-limiting step converting IPA to IAA catalyzed by YUCCA proteins. We identified eight putative StYUC （Solanum tuberosum YUCCA） genes whose deduced amino acid sequences share 50%-70% identity with those of Arabidopsis YUCCA proteins. All include canonical, conserved YUCCA sequences： FATGY motif, FMO signature sequence, and FAD-binding and NADP-binding sequences. In addition, five genes were found with -50% amino acid sequence identity to Arabidopsis trypto-phan aminotransferases. Transgenic potato （Solanum tuberosum cv. Jowon） constitutively overexpressing Arabidopsis AtYUC6 displayed high-auxin phenotypes such as narrow downward-curled leaves, increased height, erect stature, and longevity. Transgenic potato plants overexpressing AtYUC6 showed enhanced drought tolerance based on reduced water loss. The phenotype was correlated with reduced levels of reactive oxygen species in leaves. The results suggest a func-tional YUCCA pathway of auxin biosynthesis in potato that may be exploited to alter plant responses to the environment.

FSM-Monitoring of Fatigue Crack in Lattice-Stiffened Steel Plate Deck for Bridge Structures

For elucidating applicability of FSM （field signature method） on detection of fatigue crack initiation and monitoring of its propagation, a series of fatigue tests on steel plate decks （4,625 × 2,250 mm^2） stiffened in lattice-shape by longitudinal and lateral ribs was carried out by using a wheel load traveling test machine. The fatigue crack was observed by visual inspection at the weld toe between the deck plate and the longitudinal rib when the number of wheel load traveling repetition was around 210 thousands. The response of FSM-monitoring, which was the potential difference change between the sensing pins （pair）, became clear when the number of the repetition was around 190 thousands. The fatigue crack initiation could be detected by FSM considerably earlier than visual inspection. The fatigue crack propagation such as the direction could also be monitored even though the distance of the sensing pins was extended to 230 mm. On the other hand, the electric field analysis for the virgin situation without any cracks was carried out. The results of analysis indicated that 60 mm length of crack which could not be confirmed by visual inspection could be detected by FSM.

In the current mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) systems for the System architecture evaluation (SAE) networks, such as 4th generation (4G) mobile network, the data delivery is performed basing on a centralized mobility network anchor between Evolved Node B (eNB) and Serving Gateways (S-GW), and also between S-GW and Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW). However, the existing network has many obstacles, including suboptimal data routing, injection of unwanted data traffic into mobile core network and the requirement of capital expenditure. To handle these challenges, here we describe a flat mobile core network scheme donated by F-EPC, based SAE mobile network. In the proposed scheme, the P-GW and S-GW gateways are features as one node named Cellular Gateway (C-GW). Further, we proposed to distribute and increase the number of C-GW in mobile core network, the Mobility Management Entity (MME) functioned as centralizing mobility anchor and allocating the IP address for the User Entity (UE). In this paper, the explained results of a simulation analysis showed that the proposed scheme provides a superior performance compared with the current 4G architecture in terms of total transmission delay, handover delay and initial attach procedure.

In recent years, there has been introduction of alternative energy sources such as wind energy. However, wind speed is not constant and wind power output is proportional to the cube of the wind speed. In order to control the power output for wind power generators as accurately as possible, a method of wind speed estimation is required. In this paper, a technique considers that wind speed in the order of 1 - 30 seconds is investigated in confirming the validity of the Auto Regressive model (AR), Kalman Filter (KF) and Neural Network (NN) to forecast wind speed. This paper compares the simulation results of the forecast wind speed for the power output forecast of wind power generator by using AR, KF and NN.

Generally, the fatigue crack is initiated and then it is propagated toward the welding direction and the thickness direction. Finally, the joints lose the resistance to the external force. At present, as there is no deciding method of the fatigue strength （fatigue life）, this paper proposed it from the result obtained by bending test for fillet welded joints. Judging initiation of the fatigue crack from the measured value of strain gages, there was a possibility that the fatigue crack occurred at both sides of fillet welded joints. However, this was a different result from that of macrograph of cross section. On the other hand, the results obtained by FSM （field signature method） coincided with the result of macrograph of cross section. For the initial state, potential difference obtained by the electrostatic analysis based on FEM （finite element method） and that by FSM was accurately coincided. After confirming validity of the crack model for analysis, the crack model was specified by reproducing the propagating process of crack accurately through trial and error. It was concluded that the state which could not resist to the external force was regarded as fatigue strength based on equivalent stress obtained by elastic stress analysis for specified crack model. From the experimental result, it was proposed that 90% of repetition number corresponding to the state which could not resist to the external force （at the finish of the test） was regarded as fatigue strength （fatigue life） in consideration of safety and as the first approximation.
