The innate immune response to invading viruses is critical for the mounting of protective immunity,in which type I interferons(IFN),for example,IFN-αandβ,are potent effector molecules.1 Most cell types,particularly fibroblasts and epithelial cells,produce IFN-β,whereas hematopoietic cells,notably plasmacytoid dendritic cells,are the predominant sources of IFN-α.IFNs potently stimulate a variety of innate and adaptive immune cells,including macrophages,NK cells and T *** binding of type I IFN to its cognate receptor triggers the activation of the Janus kinase signal transducer and activator of transcription pathway,which results in the transcription of IFNstimulated genes that play key roles in host resistance to viral infections.

An approach for analyzing and optimizing sealing mechanism of ball valve made of nitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) with finite element method was presented. The Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic material model was chosen to characterize NBR sealing, as it has been recommended in the similar applications. That is, NBR sealing was modeled as incompressible hyperelasticity, as well as the assumption of isotropic flow. The results illustrate the structural pressure and contact pressure on the contact surface, which shows that the NBR sealing mechanism is very suitable for sealing after dimension optimization.

AIM:To evaluate the effects of DA-9701 on the gastric emptying of a solid meal using the 13C-octanoic acid breath test in a mouse model. METHODS:Male C57BL/6 mice aged > 8 wk and with body weights of 20-25 g were used in this study. The solid test meal consisted of 200 mg of egg yolk labeled with 1.5 L/g 13C-octanoic acid. The mice were placed in a 130 mL chamber flushed with air at a flow speed of 200 mL/min. Breath samples were collected for 6 h. The half-emptying time and lag phase were calculated using a modified power exponential model. To assess the reproducibility of the 13C-octanoic acid breath test, the breath test was performed two times at intervals of one week in ten mice without drug treatment. To assess the gastrokinetic effects of DA-9701, the breath test was performed three times in another twelve mice, with a randomized crossover sequence of three drug treatments:DA-9701 3 mg/kg, erythromycin 6 mg/kg, or saline. Each breath test was performed at an interval of one week. RESULTS:Repeatedly measured half gastric emptying time of ten mice without drug treatment showed 0.856 of the intraclass correlation coefficient for the half gastric emptying time (P = 0.004). The mean cumulative excretion curve for the 13C-octanoic acid breath test showed accelerated gastric emptying after DA-9701 treatment compared with the saline control (P = 0.028). The median half gastric emptying time after the DA-9701 treatment was significantly shorter than after the saline treatment [122.4 min (109.0-137.9 min) vs 134.5 min (128.4-167.0 min), respectively; P = 0.028] and similar to that after the erythromycin treatment [123.3 min (112.9-138.2 min)]. The lag phase, which was defined as the period taken to empty 15% of a meal, was significantly shorter after the DA-9701 treatment than after the saline treatment [48.1 min (44.6-57.1 min) vs 52.6 min (49.45-57.4 min), respectively; P = 0.049]. A new putative transposon was identified in the tobacco budworm, Helio- this virescens. This transposon was characterized as a full length CORE-SINE （65 bp of ＂CORE＂ core specific nucleotide short interspersed elements） that resembled sequences from three other lepidopterans and humans. In particular, the A-box and B-box regions of this sequence most closely conformed to the signature of CORE-SINEs from widely divergent species. This CORE-SINE was present as a polymorphism in a hypervariable region of the gene hscp, which is the target of pyrethroid insecticides and other xenobiotics in the nerve axon. We described this new putative transposon as Noct-1 due to its presence in a noctuid moth. This is the first description of a full-length CORE-SINE with the A-box, B-box, target site duplication, and candidate core domain from an insect.

Out-of-plane microneedle structures are widely used in various applications such as transcutaneous drug delivery and neural signal recording for brain machine *** work presents a novel but simple method to fabricate high-density silicon(Si)microneedle arrays with various heights and diverse cross-sectional shapes depending on photomask pattern *** proposed fabrication method is composed of a single photolithography and two subsequent deep reactive ion etching(DRIE)***,a photoresist layer was patterned on a Si substrate to define areas to be etched,which will eventually determine the final location and shape of each individual ***,the 1st DRIE step created deep trenches with a highly anisotropic etching of the Si ***,the photoresist was removed for more isotropic etching;the 2nd DRIE isolated and sharpened microneedles from the predefined trench *** on diverse photomask designs,the 2nd DRIE formed arrays of microneedles that have various height distributions,as well as diverse cross-sectional shapes across the *** these simple steps,high-aspect ratio microneedles were created in the high density of up to 625 microneedles mm^(-2)on a Si *** tests showed a small force as low as~172μN/microneedle is required for microneedle arrays to penetrate the dura mater of a mouse *** demonstrate a feasibility of drug delivery application,we also implemented silk microneedle arrays using molding *** fabrication method of the present study is expected to be broadly applicable to create microneedle structures for drug delivery,neuroprosthetic devices,and so on.

Background:In 2014,an outbreak of adenoviral pneumonia occurred in the Korean military training ***,there are limited data on the characteristics of the fever and its response to antipyretic therapy in immunocompetent adults with adenovirus-positive community-acquired pneumonia(CAP).Methods:The medical records of the patients who were admitted to the Armed Forces Chuncheon Hospital for the treatment of CAP between January 2014 and December 2016 were retrospectively *** patients were divided into three groups,namely,the adenovirus-positive(Adv)group,the adenovirus-negative(Non-Adv)group and the unknown pathogen group,according to the results of a polymerase chain reaction(PCR)test and sputum culture used to measure adenovirus and other bacteria or viruses in respiratory *** evaluated and compared the demographics,clinicolaboratory findings and radiological findings upon admission between the two ***:Out of the 251 military personnel with CAP during the study periods,67 were classified into the Adv group,while 134 were classified into the Non-Adv group and 50 were classified into the unknown pathogen *** patients in the Adv group had a longer duration of fever after admission((3.2±1.6)d vs.(1.9±1.2)d vs.(2.2±1.5)d,P=0.018)and symptom onset((5.8±2.2)d vs.(3.9±2.5)d vs.(3.7±2.0)d,P=0.006)than patients in the Non-Adv and unknown pathogen groups,*** patients in the Adv group had a higher mean temperature at admission(37.8±0.3 vs.37.3±0.3 vs.37.3±0.3,P=0.005),and more patients were observed over 40 and 39 to 40(14.9%vs.2.2%vs.4.0%,35.8%vs.3.7%vs.6.0%,P<0.001)than those in the Non-Adv and unknown pathogen groups,*** Adv group more commonly had no response or exhibited adverse events after antipyretic treatment compared to the Non-Adv group(17.9%vs.1.5%,35.0%vs.4.3%,P<0.001,P=0.05,respectively).In addition,the time from admission to overall clinical stabilization was significantly longer in the patients
