Embolic Effects of Bletilla striata Microspheres in Renal Artery and Transplanted VX2 Liver Tumor Model in Rabbits

Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of Bletilla striata microspheres(BSMs) and its effects as an embolic agent in a rabbit model. Methods: BSMs were prepared with an emulsi?cation-cool condensation-chemical cross-linking method. The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were observed. Embolization experiments were performed in renal artery of rabbit and in a rabbit liver VX2 carcinoma model. Seventy-two New Zealand rabbits were divided into 2 groups, and the right renal artery was embolized with BSMs(200 μm in diameter) in the experimental group and with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) of the same size in the control group. The pathological findings were examined with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson stainings. Liver and renal functions were tested before and after ***2 tumor was transplanted in 15 New Zealand rabbits, which were randomly divided into 3 groups(n=5). Group A were treated with saline, group B with a mixture of doxorubicin and lipiodol, and group C with hepatic arterial infusion of BSMs(200 μm in diameter). Tumor growth rate was evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging ***-related factors(bax, bcl-2) and tumor vascular endothelial cell growth factor(VEGF) were evaluated through immunohistochemical staining. Results: The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were in full compliance with the requirements for use in interventional procedures. In the renal artery embolization experiment, after BSMs intervention, it was more dif?cult to form collateral circulation than that with PVAs, and the kidney manifested atrophy and calci?cation. There were no signi?cant difference of liver and renal functions in rabbits between groups. In the liver VX2 carcinoma embolization experiment, compared with group A, the growth rate of VX2 liver tumor and Bcl-2 levels was reduced, while apoptosis index, Bax, and VEGF were increased in group B(P0.05). A Phase Ⅱ Study of Fotemustine Plus Dacarbazine with Dendritic Cell Vaccines as First-Line Therapy for Chinese Patients with Advanced Acral Lentiginous Melanoma

Objective： To investigate fotemustine plus dacarbazine （DTIC） with dendritic cell （DC） vaccines on patients with advanced acral lentiginous melanoma （ALM）. Fotemustine is a cytotoxic alkylating agent with a remarkable antitumor activity as single agent but also in association with （DTIC）. DC is the strongest antigen presenting cell which could induce durable clinical responses. Methods： This was a single-center study. Between July 2003 and June 2006, twenty-eight chemotherapy-naive patients of advanced ALM received fotemustine 100 mg/m^2, dr, 12, DTIC 400 mg/d d2-6, DC vaccines subcutaneously dT, 9, 13 repeated every 28 days. Ten HLA-A02＋24＋ patients received vaccines pulsed with melanoma antigen derived peptides, melanoma antigen recognized by T-cells 1 （Mart-i） and S-100. Eighteen patients received DC loaded with allogeneic melanoma lysate. The primary end-point was progression free survival （PFS）. Secondary end-points were overall survival （OS）, overall response rate （ORR） and toxicity. Tumor assessment was performed every 8 weeks and evaluated according to response evaluation criteria in solid tumors （RECIST）. Results： The 15 men and 13 women had a median age of 51 years. 16 patients had stage Mlc disease and 11/16 had liver metastasis. Patients received an average of 3.82±1.25 cycles. Follow-up for the 18 surviving patients ranged from 7-41 months with a median of 12 months. Median PFS was 8.5 months （95% CI： 7.86-15.21） with 12 patients remaining progression free. Only 10 patients died. Median OS was 12 months （95% CI： 10.33-18.24）. ORR （CR＋PR） was 35.7% including 3 complete response （CR） and 7 partial response （PR）. Six patients had disease stable. A total of 19 Grade Ⅲ/Ⅳ toxicities were observed including thrombocytopenia （n=8）, neutropenia （n=5）, fatigue （n=6） and hypersensitivity reaction （n=1）. One patient died of Grade IV thrombocytopenia. Temporal dynamics of nutrient balance, plasma biochemical and immune traits, and liver function in transition dairy cows

The objective of this study was to analyze the dynamics of nutrient balance,physiological biomarkers and comprehensive indexes associated with metabolism and function of organs in transition *** transition cows were used for this *** intake was recorded daily,and samples of the diet,venous blood and milk were collected for *** balance values of net energy for lactation(NEL),metabolizable protein(MP),and metabolizable glucose(MG) were calculated,and regression analysis and calculation of comprehensive indexes were ***,the prepartum cows presented positive balances of NEL,MP,and MG,while severe negative balances were found during the postpartum *** changes of energy metabolism,nutrient mobilization,liver function,anti-oxidative status and immune response,as indicated by blood biomarkers and modified comprehensive indexes,were out of sync with the calculated balance values,but they were closely related to the day relative to *** with the 21 d prepartum,the plasma concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids(NEFA) and β-hydroxybutyric acid(BHBA) were significantly increased around and after calving(P<0.05),and similar variation tendency was observed for most of other *** occurrence of parturition and the initiation of lactation were more responsible for the negative balances of nutrients in transition dairy *** negative balances of NEL,MP and MG were not observed using the assessment model,the nutritional strategies should be applied before calving,because metabolic adaptations had been validated during the prepartum *** addition,it was plausible to conclude that the decline of hepatic metabolism,defense function and insulin sensitivity are critical causes of metabolic dysfunction.

Understanding and Therapeutic Strategies of Chinese Medicine on Gut-Derived Uremic Toxins in Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic kidney disease （CKD） is a major disease that threatens human health. With the progression of CKD, the risk of cardiovascular death increases, which is associated with the elevated levels of uremic toxins （UTs）. Representative toxins such as indoxyl sulfate and p-cresyl sulfate are involed in CKD progression and cardiovascular events inseparable from the key role of endothelial dysfunction. The therapeutic strategies of UTs are aimed at signaling pathways that target the levels and damage of toxins in modem medicine. There is a certain relevance between toxins and ＂turbid toxin＂ in the theory of Chinese medicine （CM）. CM treatments have been demonstrated to reduce the damage of gut-derived toxins to the heart, kidney and blood vessels. Modern medicine still lacks evidence-based therapies, so it is necessary to explore the treatments of CM.

Mechanical analysis and reasonable design for Ti-Al alloy liner wound with carbon fiber resin composite high pressure vessel

To consider the internal pressure loaded by both the cylindrical Ti-Al alloy liner and the carbon fiber resin composite (CFRC) wound layers, two models are built. The first one is a cylinder loaded with the internal pressure in the hoop direction only. In this model, the total hoop direction load is distributed over all layers under the internal pressure. The second one is a cylinder loaded with the internal pressure in the axial direction only. In this model, the total axial load is distributed over all cylinders under the internal pressure. Taking the boundary conditions of the continuous displacement between layers into account, a group of equations are built. From these equations, we get the solutions of stresses in both hoop direction and axial direction loaded by every layer under internal pressures. After the stresses are obtained, a reasonable design can be done. An example is given in the final section of this study.

The inclusion characteristics in 55SiCr spring steel with different contents of titanium and calcium were *** chemical compositions of steel samples were detected by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer,and the inclusion characteristics was determined by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM)and energy-dispersive *** results show that the Ti/Al ratio should be kept at less than 1,and the content of calcium should be controlled between 0.0015 and 0.0025 wt.%in Si-Mn-Al deoxidized steel,so that more solid inclusions can be converted to liquid ***,the high Ti content in melts is the direct cause of the high proportion of Ti_(3)O_(5) in the inclusions,which involves[Ti]to reduce SiO_(2) and A1_(2)O_(3) in *** addition,calcium treatment can reduce the content of Ti_(3)O_(5) in inclusions,and the degree of reduction is closely related to the content of[O].The thermodynamic calculation of Fe-Si-Mn-Cr-Al-Ti-Ca-O molten steel system during solidification process was performed by FactSage software,taking all types of inclusions into account,such as titanium oxide,calcium oxide,aluminum oxide,silicon oxide,manganese oxide,calcium titanate,mullite,calcium aluminate,and liquid *** inclusion type of calculation results was in accordance with the experimental results at 1550℃,and TiO_(x) aggregation behavior was consistent with the Ti_(2)O_(3)-containing precipitation phase.

Cognate pulse sorting method based on beam missions characteristics

In most multi-function phased array radar applications, multiple missions, including airspace searching and target tracking, are usually performed simultaneously by the digital beam-forming technique and the time dividing method. This paper presents a novel method to classify pulses of different missions from an interleaved pulse sequence emitted by the same radar, which is significant in radar electronic reconnaissance and electronic support measure. Firstly, two hypotheses, i.e., pulse relativity within the same mission and pulse independence among different missions, are proposed by analyzing the antenna pattern and the beam scheduling method of the phased array radar. Based on the above two hypotheses, an optimal model for pulse classification is exploited with pulse amplitude series, where the absolute-value sum of second order difference is taken as the optimal kernel to measure sequence smooth continuity. Finally, several pieces of sequences under different numbers of missions and tracking data rates are simulated for algorithm verification. The simulation results show that the long data length and the high data rate will increase classification efficiency due to the validity of the two hypotheses in sufficient pulse amplitude sequence.

Evolution of Microstructure,Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of Ultrasonic Assisted Welded-Brazed Mg/Ti Joint

Ultrasonic vibration with different powers from 0 k W to 1.6 k W was applied during the tungsten inert gas welding-brazing of Mg/*** microstructures,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the ultrasonic assisted tungsten inert gas（U-TIG） welded-brazed Mg/Ti joint were *** results showed that,without being subjected to ultrasonic vibration,coarse columnar α-Mg grains occurred in the fusion zone of Mg/Ti ***,with ultrasonic power of 1.2 k W,the average grain size of columnar α-Mg grains was refined from 200 μm to about 50 μm and the tensile strength of joints increased^18% up to 228 ***,high fraction of grain boundaries was introduced by grain refinement,contributing to improve the corrosion resistance in two ways：（i） accelerating the formation of Mg（OH）2protective layer and（ii） reducing the mismatch and disorder between Mg（OH）2 protective layer and Mg alloy surface.

Parameterized time-frequency analysis to separate multi-radar signals

Multi-radar signal separation is a critical process in modern reconnaissance systems. However, the complicated battlefield is typically confronted with increasing electronic equipment and complex radar waveforms. The intercepted signal is difficult to separate with conventional parameters because of severe overlapping in both time and frequency domains. On the contrary, time-frequency analysis maps the 1D signal into a 2D time-frequency plane, which provides a better insight into the signal than traditional methods. Particularly, the parameterized time-frequency analysis (PTFA) shows great potential in processing such non stationary signals. Five procedures for the PTFA are proposed to separate the overlapped multi-radar signal, including initiation, instantaneous frequency estimation with PTFA, signal demodulation, signal separation with adaptive filter and signal recovery. The proposed method is verified with both simulated and real signals, which shows good performance in the application on multi-radar signal separation.
