Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) results from a complex series of interactions between susceptibility genes, the environment, and the immune ***, some studies provided strong evidence that the process of autophagy affects several aspects of mucosal immune responses. Autophagy is a cellular stress response that plays key roles in physiological processes, such as innate and adaptive immunity, adaptation to starvation, degradation of aberrant proteins or organelles, antimicrobial defense, and protein secretion. Dysfunctional autophagy is recognized as a contributing factor in many chronic inflammatory diseases, including IBD. Autophagy plays multiple roles in IBD pathogenesis by altering processes that include intracellular bacterial killing, antimicrobial peptide secretion by Paneth cells, goblet cell function, proinflammatory cytokine production by macrophages, antigen presentation by dendritic cells, and the endoplasmic reticulum stress response in enterocytes. Recent studies have identified susceptibility genes involved in autophagy, such as NOD2, ATG16L1, and IRGM, and active research is ongoing all over the world. The aim of this review is a systematic appraisal of the current literature to provide a better understanding of the role of autophagy in the pathogenesis of IBD. Understanding these mechanisms will bring about new strategies for the treatment and prevention of IBD.

AIM To identify risk factors for post-polypectomy bleeding(PPB), focusing on antithrombotic agents. METHODS This was a case-control study based on medical records at a single center. PPB was defined as bleeding that occurred 6 h to 10 d after colonoscopic polypectomy and required endoscopic hemostasis. As risk factors for PPB, patient-related factors including anticoagulants, antiplatelets and heparin bridge therapy as well as polyp- and procedure-related factors were evaluated. All colonoscopic hot polypectomies, endoscopic mucosal resections and endoscopic submucosal dissections performed between January 2011 and December 2014 were reviewed. RESULTS PPB occurred in 29(3.7%) of 788 polypectomies performed during the study period. Antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents were prescribed for 210(26.6%)patients and were ceased before polypectomy except for aspirin and cilostazol in 19 cases. Bridging therapy using intravenous unfractionated heparin was adopted for 73 patients. The univariate analysis revealed that anticoagulants, heparin bridge, and anticoagulants plus heparin bridge were significantly associated with PPB(P < 0.0001) whereas antiplatelets and antiplatelets plus heparin were not. None of the other factors including age, gender, location, size, shape, number of resected polyps, prophylactic clipping and resection method were correlated with PPB. The multivariate analysis demonstrated that anticoagulants and anticoagulants plus heparin bridge therapy were significant risk factors for PPB(P < 0.0001). Of the 29 PPB cases, 4 required transfusions and none required surgery. A thromboembolic event occurred in a patient who took anticoagulant. CONCLUSION Patients taking anticoagulants have an increased risk of PPB, even if the anticoagulants are interrupted before polypectomy. Heparin-bridge therapy might be responsible for the increased PPB in patients taking anticoagulants.

AIM:To evaluate the effects of omeprazole on gastric mechanosensitivity in humans. METHODS:A double lumen polyvinyl tube with a plastic bag was introduced into the stomach of healthy volunteers under fluorography and connected to a barostat device. Subjects were then positioned so they were sitting comfortably, and the minimal distending pressure (MDP) was determined after a 30-min adaptation period. Isobaric distensions were performed in stepwise increments of 2 mmHg (2 min each) starting from the MDP. Subjects were instructed to score feel-ings at the end of every step using a graphic rating scale:0, no perception; 1, weak/vague; 2, weak but significant; 3, moderate/vague; 4, moderate but signifi-cant; 5, severe discomfort; and 6, unbearable pain. After this first test, subjects received omeprazole (20 mg, after dinner) once daily for 1 wk. A second test was performed on the last day of treatment. RESULTS:No adverse effects were observed. Mean MDP before and after treatment was 6.3 ± 0.3 mmHg and 6.2 ± 0.5 mmHg, respectively. One subject before and 2 after treatment did not reach a score of 6 at the maximum bag volume of 750 mL. After omeprazole, there was a significant increase in the distension pres-sure required to reach scores of 1 (P = 0.019) and 2 (P = 0.017) as compared to baseline. There were no changes in pressure required to reach the other scores after treatment. Two subjects before and one after omeprazole rated their abdominal feeling < 1 at MDP, and mean (± SE) abdominal discomfort scores at MDP were 0.13 ± 0.09 and 0.04 ± 0.04, respectively. Mean scores induced by each MDP + 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 (mmHg) were 1.1 ± 0.3, 2.0 ± 0.4, 2.9 ± 0.5, 3.3 ± 0.4, 4.6 ± 0.3, 5.2 ± 0.3, 5.5 ± 0.2, 5.5 ± 0.3, 5.7 ± 0.3, and 5.4, respectively. After omepra-zole, abdominal feeling scores for the same incremental pressures over MDP were 0.3 ± 0.1, 0.8 ± 0.1, 2.0 ± 0.4, 2.8 ± 0.4, 3.8 ± 0.4, 4.6 ± 0.4, 4.9 ± 0.3, 5.4 ± 0.4, 5.2 ± 0.6, and 5.0 ± 1.0, re

Adsorptive Properties of Dyes to Cellulosic Sheet and Discoloration of Dye Solution by UV-ray Irradiation

The adsorptive properties and selectivity of dyes and water molecules to cellulosic sheet, dependence of adsorptive properties of dyes on the concentration of dye solution, and discoloration of the dye solution due to the UV-ray irradiation were determined for 18 kinds of commercial dyes. The results are as follows： 1） the adsorptive properties of dyes to cellulose sheet differed greatly, but did not depend on the dye types such as acidic, basic and so on; 2） adsorptive properties of dyes to cellulosic sheet de- pended on the concentration of dye solution and were classified into 4 types： concentration-independent, increasing or decreasing with dye concentration, and having a maximum. This classification was irrelevant to the dye types; 3） the irradiation of UV-ray did not cause significant discoloration of dye solution itself, which suggested that wood components as well as dye molecules influence the discoloration of wood.

In this manuscript, the authors have studied the Disc Displacement (DD) status of patients with acute Closed Lock (CL) to determine differences between DD with Reduction (DDwR) and DD without Reduction (DDwoR). Among the acute CL patients who visited our hospital within 2 weeks of the onset of CL, we studied 10 patients whose CL was released (DDwR) and 13 patients whose CL was not released (DDwoR). The DDwoR group was significantly older than the DDwR group. Although the mouth opening distance was significantly greater in the DDwoR group than in the DDwR group, the two groups were identical in the duration of CL. Sagittal MRI images showed no significant differences between the two groups in disc length and disc thickness (anterior band, intermediate zone, and posterior band). Multisection sagittal and coronal images identified lateral DD in 7 of the 10 patients in the DDwR group, although no specific direction of the DD was observed in the DDwoR group. Furthermore, deformation of the medial disc was common in the DDwoR group but uncommon in the DDwR group.

Dyeability of Chemically Treated Wood and its Discoloration by UV-ray Irradiation

The study illustrates differences between colors of poplar I-214 veneers dyed by reactive blue KN-R and 4 kinds of chemical reagents, and those of treated veneer exposed to UV-ray for 3 days. The results show there are some laws in poplar I-214 dyeing and UV-ray attenuation of each chemically treated veneer color. The chemical reaction carried out between cellulose or lignin on veneer surface and dye molecules when they met with. The capability of dyeing and discoloration of veneer is improved by control of dyeing technology, especially chemical treatments; being treated by acetylation and maleic anhydride protects dyed wood discoloration.
