Lo.ering Gasifier Tars and Particulates Using Heated Do.o.mite Catalyst and a Particulate Filter

Fo. this study, a fixed-bed, do.n-draft gasifier was designed to.investigate the effect o. a do.o.ite catalytic bedo. tar remo.al. Pine pellets and wo.d chips (cypress) were used to.pro.uce syngas fro. the do.n-draft gasifier. Fo. the gas co.ditio.ing, a co.binatio. o. a heated do.o.ite (bed temperature at 850?C fo. catalytic cracking o. tars) and a particulate filter (fo. particulate remo.al) was used. Investigatio. o. temperature effects o. do.o.ite activity between 650?C and 950 C bed temperatures, sho.ed o.timum catalytic efficiency at appro.imately 850?C. At the o.timum co.ditio.s, gravimetric tar and particulate co.centratio.s in syngas pro.uced fro. pine pellets were 0.85 g/Nm3 (±0.16) and 4.75 g/Nm3 (±0.07), respectively befo.e gas co.ditio.ing, and 0.09 g/Nm3 (±0.02) and 2.01 g/Nm3 (±0.13), respectively after gas co.ditio.ing. Syngas fro. wo.d chips co.tained 1.63 g/Nm3 (±0.45) and 3.84 g/Nm3 (±1.16) o. tars and particulates, respectively befo.e gas cleaning and 0.19 g/Nm3 (±0.02) and 2.27 g/Nm3 (±0.27) tars and particulates, respectively after gas co.ditio.ing. The co.bustible po.tio. o. the gas co.stituted carbo. mo.o.ide (12% - 14%), hydro.en (11% - 12%), and methane (~2%). These results suggest that syngas pro.uced fro. gasificatio. o. pine pellets and wo.d chips in a do.n-draft bio.ass gasifier can be effectively cleaned using a heated catalyst bed and a particulate filter. Ho.ever, the benefits o. gas co.ditio.ing will be o.fset by the need to.maintain a heated catalyst bed fo. tar cracking.

A study o. sedimentary facies,mineral and textural characteristics o. sectio.s o. co.glo.erates/pebbles and sandsto.e facies fo.nd within the Lo.o.a and Patti Fo.matio.s in so.thern Bida Basin,Nigeria,is carried o.t to.evaluate the paleo.enviro.ment and reservo.r quality o. the sandsto.es o. the fo.matio.s thro.gh field o.servatio.s and textural and mineralo.ical(using X-Ray Diffracto.ram)*** litho.acies are identified and gro.ped into.three main facies *** sedimentary facies suggest depo.itio. in bo.h fo.esho.e and *** mineral analysis(XRD)sho.s that the quartz co.tent in sandsto.e facies o. the Lo.o.a Fo.matio. ranges between 49%and 67%,and that o. the Patti Sandsto.e between 43%and 56%,indicating a quartz *** granulo.etric studies reveal that the Lo.o.a Fo.matio. co.prises co.rse-to.medium-grained(-0.63 to.1.30φ)sandsto.e with mo.eratepo.r so.ting o. *** the o.her hand,medium to.fine-grained sandsto.es do.inate the Patti Fo.matio.,which is averagely po.rly so.ted(1.29-1.54φ).The sandsto.es are co.rsely skewed to.finely skewed,with the kurto.is ranging fro. very platykurtic to.*** results o. the pebbles fro. bo.h Lo.o.a and Patti Fo.matio.s indicate that the study areas are mainly characterized by the interplay o. bo.h wave and fluvial pro.esses,which suggests that the enviro.ment o. depo.itio. o. sandsto.e facies is predo.inantly o. the fluvial to.the shallo. marine enviro.ment with the indicatio. o. tidal *** sedimentary facies and textural results suggests subtidal sand ridge/fo.esho.e,estuarine mudflat,and estuarine delta enviro.ments with fluvial *** fro. the textural and mineral characteristics indicate that the sandsto.e facies o. the Lo.o.a and Patti Fo.matio.s are fairly matured and can act as po.ential hydro.arbo. reservo.rs in the *** facies,XRD mineral,and textural results have revealed po.ential hydro.arbo. reservo.r areas and pale
