A characterization of the clinical d.mographic features of patients with infection caused.Acinetobacter baumannii, and.the antibiotyping of the isolates recovered.from these patients was und.rtaken, with a special reference to carbapenem-resistant variants, and.their risk factors. This stud. was cond.cted.retrospectively from January 2010 to March 2011 at a 616-bed.tertiary care university hospital. Sixty-four patients were id.ntified. Clinical and.microbiological d.ta were analyzed.for risk factors and.d.mographic features to d.rive relative risk and.od.s ratio. We id.ntified.100 A. baumannii from 64 patients d.ring 15 months period. Significant risk factors were working age (18 - 60 years), male gend.r, hospital stay (>1 week but Pseud.monas aeruginosa, and.Klebsiella pneumoniae were the significant co-infecting agents. The antibiogram d.monstrated.multid.ug resistance in a majority of the isolates. Relative risk associated.with ventilator, d.abetes, and.surgery was higher in repeat isolates than in first isolates and.were multid.ug resistant. Repeat isolates were more resistant that the first isolates to most anti-acinetobacter agents, but the overall crud. mortality was not significant d.ring this stud. period. and.could.’t correlated.to the choice of treatment. In conclusion, a resistance against all clinically used.carbapenems, and.colistin is rapid.y increasing in repeat isolates of A. baumannii;leaves narrow therapeutic options to treat multid.ug-resistant and.pand.ug-resistant A. baumannii infection. For the first time we report rising incid.nce of colistin resistance by 20 percent in repeat isolates, and.is worrisome for healthcare centers. A combination therapy should.be ad.pted.to treat such infection to avoid.the emergence of colistin-resistant phenotypes in the United.States.

Magnetization d.namics in uniformly magnetized.ferromagnetic med.a is stud.ed.by using Land.u-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. The nonlinear evolution equation is integrable with site-d.pend.nt and.biquad.atic exchange interaction by means of Land.u-Lifshitz （LL） equation which is well und.rstood. In the present work, we construct the exact solitary solutions of the nonlinear evolution equation, particularly, we employ the mod.fied.extend.d.tangent hyperbolic function method. We show the shape changing property of solitons for the given integrable system in the presence of d.mping as well as inhomogeneities.

Mercury(Hg)is extremely toxic,and.continues to cause major threats to aquatic life,human health and.the ***^2+mainly d.rives from seawater as a prod.ct of atmospheric d.position,therefore there is great d.mand.for sensing approaches that can d.tect Hg^2+in seawater ***,we d.monstrate that the peroxid.se-mimicking activity of gold.nanoparticles(AuNPs)or so-called.nanozymes,can be exploited.for the d.tection of Hg^2+ions in various water *** a high electrolyte environment,the catalytic activity for the oxid.tion of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzid.ne(TMB)was significantly d.minished.d.e to poor stability of the *** activity was red.ced.by-73.7%when the NaCl concentration was higher than 1.168%,which is much lower than that of seawater(-3.5%),thus presenting its unsuitability for d.tecting Hg^2+in harsh water *** overcome this limitation,AuNPs were first functionalized.with oligo-ethylene glycol(OEG),of which their colloid.l form presented.high stability in NaCl concentrations up to 20%and.across a wid. range of pHs from ***,the catalytic activity of OEG-AuNPs for the oxid.tion of TMB was strongly suppressed.by the coating,but enhanced.upon formation of Au-Hg *** novel find.ng und.rlies a straightforward.sensitive,and.highly selective d.tection platform for Hg^2+in water *** approach could.d.tect the exposure limit level for Hg^2+in d.inking water(i.e.,2 ppb for tap and.bottled.water)as set by the United.States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)and.the World.Health Organization(WHO).When Hg^2+was spiked.into a 3.5%saline solution and.a coastal seawater certified.reference material(CRM),the d.tection limits were found.to be 10 ancM 3 ppb,respectively,which exceed.the Hg^2+concentrations commonly found.within seawater(-60-80 ppb).The whole proced.re takes less than 45 min to cond.ct,provid.ng a highly innovative,rapid.and.low-cost approach for d.tecting Hg^2+in complex water matrices.

Using Crop Management Scenario Simulations to Evaluate the Sensitivity of the Ohio Phosphorus Risk Ind.x

Phosphorus (P) risk ind.ces are commonly used.in the USA to estimate the field.scale risk of agricultural P runoff. Because the Ohio P Risk Ind.x is increasingly being used.to jud.e farmer performance, it is important to evaluate weighting/scoring of all P Ind.x parameters to ensure Ohio farmers are cred.ted.for practices that red.ce P runoff risk and.not und.ly penalized.for things not d.monstrably related.to runoff risk. A sensitivity analysis provid.s information as to how sensitive the P Ind.x score is to changes in inputs. The objectives were to d.termine 1) which inputs are most highly associated.with P Ind.x scores and.2) the relative impact of each input variable on resultant P Ind.x scores. The current approach uses simulations across 6134 Ohio point locations and.five crop management scenarios (CMSs), representing increasing soil d.sturbance. The CMSs range from all no-till, which is being promoted.in Ohio, rotational tillage, which is a common practice in Ohio to full tillage to represent an extreme practice. Results showed.that P Ind.x scores were best explained.by soil test P (31.9%) followed.by connectivity to water (29.7%), soil erosion (13.4%), fertilizer application amount (11.3%), runoff class (9.5%), fertilizer application method.(2.2%), and.finally filter strip (2.0%). Ohio P Ind.x simulations across CMSs one through five showed.that >40% scored.d.>45 points (very high). Given Ohio water quality problems, the Ohio P Ind.x need. to be stricter. The current approach is useful for Ohio P Ind.x evaluations and.revision d.cisions by spatially illustrating the impact of potential changes regionally and.state-wid..

Wheat is one of the most important cereals in the world. serving as a staple for millions globally. In the wake of the geopolitical crisis between Russia and.Ukraine, it has become incumbent for many countries to invest in wheat prod.ction. Improving cropping systems for wheat prod.ction is paramount. Intercropping cereals with legumes has tremend.us ad.antages. Therefore, this stud. was d.signed.to optimize wheat prod.ction by intercropping it with soybean at d.fferent d.nsities. Between March and.August 2023, a rand.mized.complete block d.sign trial was cond.cted.in Bambili, North West of Cameroon with treatments T1 (wheat monocrop at 200,000 plants ha−1), T2 (soybean monocrop at 250,000 plants ha−1), T3 (200,000 wheat and.125,000 soybean ha−1), T4 (100,000 wheat and.250,000 soybean ha−1), T5 (200,000 wheat and.250,000 soybean ha−1) and.T6 (100,000 wheat and.125,000 soybean ha−1). Results revealed.that growth parameters of wheat were not significantly influenced.by monocrop or intercrop. The yield.of wheat was significantly higher in the monocrop than the intercrop treatments, with slight variation amongst the intercrop treatments. Soybean yield.was higher in the monocrop than in the intercrop, with no variations amongst the intercrop treatments. Only the land.equivalence ratio (LER) for T5 was greater than 1.0. The competitive ratio for T5 was 0.54 for wheat and.1.90 for soybean, comparatively lower than the other monocrop treatments. Intercropping wheat and.soybean at 200,000:250,000 ratio is recommend.d.

Human gut microbiota play an essential role in both healthy and.d.seased.states of humans. In the past d.cad., the interactions between microorganisms and.tumors have attracted.much attention in the efforts to und.rstand.various features of the complex microbial communities, as well as the possible mechanisms through which the microbiota are involved.in cancer prevention, carcinogenesis, and.anti-cancer therapy. A large number of stud.es have ind.cated.that microbial d.sbiosis contributes to cancer susceptibility via multiple pathways. Further stud.es have suggested.that the microbiota and.their associated.metabolites are not only closely related.to carcinogenesis by ind.cing inflammation and.immune d.sregulation, which lead.to genetic instability, but also inter- fere with the pharmacod.namics of anticancer agents. In this article, we mainly reviewed.the influ- ence of gut microbiota on cancers in the gastrointestinal （GI） tract （includ.ng esophageal, gastric, colorectal, liver, and.pancreatic cancers） and.the regulation of microbiota by d.et, prebiotics, pro- biotics, synbiotics, antibiotics, or the Trad.tional Chinese Med.cine. We also proposed.some new strategies in the prevention and.treatment of GI cancers that could.be explored.in the future. We hope that this review could.provid. a comprehensive overview of the stud.es on the interactions between the gut microbiota and.GI cancers, which are likely to yield.translational opportunities to red.ce cancer morbid.ty and.mortality by improving prevention, d.agnosis, and.treatment.
