Ultrafast 3D imaging is indispensable for v.sualizing complex and dynamic biological *** scanning-based techniques necessitate an inherent trade-off between acquisition speed and space-bandwidth product(SBP).Emerging single-shot 3D wide-field techniques offer a promising alternativ. but are bottlenecked by the synchronous readout constraints of conv.ntional CMOS systems,thus restricting data throughput to maintain high SBP at limited frame *** address this,we introduce Ev.ntLFM,a straightforward and cost-effectiv. system that ov.rcomes these challenges by integrating an ev.nt camera with Fourier light field microscopy(LFM),a state-of-theart single-shot 3D wide-field imaging *** ev.nt camera operates on a nov.l asynchronous readout architecture,thereby bypassing the frame rate limitations inherent to conv.ntional CMOS *** further dev.lop a simple and robust ev.nt-driv.n LFM reconstruction algorithm that can reliably reconstruct 3D dynamics from the unique spatiotemporal measurements captured by *** results demonstrate that Ev.ntLFM can robustly reconstruct fast-mov.ng and rapidly blinking 3D fluorescent samples at kHz frame ***,we highlight Ev.ntLFM’s capability for imaging of blinking neuronal signals in scattering mouse brain tissues and 3D tracking of GFP-labeled neurons in freely mov.ng *** believ. that the combined ultrafast speed and large 3D SBP offered by Ev.ntLFM may open up new possibilities across many biomedical applications.

Disc degeneration primarily contributes to chronic low back and neck ***,there is an urgent need to understand the spectrum of disc degeneration phenotypes such as fibrosis,ectopic calcification,herniation,or mixed *** these phenotypes,disc calcification is the least *** calcification,by definition,is the pathological mineralization of soft tissues,widely studied in the context of conditions that afflict v.sculature,skin,and ***,disc calcification is associated with poor surgical outcomes and back pain refractory to conserv.tiv. *** is frequently seen as a consequence of disc aging and progressiv. degeneration but exhibits unique molecular and morphological characteristics:hypertrophic chondrocyte-like cell differentiation;TNAP,ENPP1,and ANK upregulation;cell death;altered Pi and PPi homeostasis;and local *** studies in mouse models hav. prov.ded a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying this *** is essential to recognize that the presentation and nature of mineralization differ between AF,NP,and EP ***,the combination of anatomic location,genetics,and env.ronmental stressors,such as aging or trauma,gov.rn the predisposition to ***,the systemic regulation of calcium and Pi metabolism is less important than the local activ.ty of PPi modulated by the ANK-ENPP1 axis,along with disc cell death and differentiation *** there is limited understanding of this phenotype,understanding the molecular pathways gov.rning local interv.rtebral disc calcification may lead to dev.loping disease-modifying drugs and better clinical management of degeneration-related pathologies.

Objectiv. Heart failure is an epidemic in the elderly, but there is a striking lack of data in this clinically important patient population. We inv.stigated the demographics, cardiac performance, and medication management of a segment of the hospital popula- tion in at least their eighth decade of life. Methods We retrospectiv.ly rev.ewed 75 records of heart failure patients who were 80 years of age or older. Records were rev.ewed for demographic information, presence or absence of diastolic dysfunction, ev.luation of ejection fraction, and medication usage including angiotensin-concerting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor antagonists (ARBs), beta-adrenergic blockers, digoxin, and aldosterone antagonists. Assessment for contra-indications to ACE inhibitor or ARBs use was also performed to assess co-morbidities that limit treatment of heart failure. Results The population of v.ry elderly with heart failure is heterogeneous. We found a higher proportion of females as well as higher rates of diastolic dysfunction in patients aged ≥ 90 years compared to patients between the ages of 80-89 years. Usage of ACE inhibitors, ARBs and beta-adrenergic blockers was strikingly low throughout the v.ry elderly population. While co-morbid conditions limited use of agents in many cases, there was a lack of explicit contra-indication in most patients not on an ACE inhibitor or an ARB. Conclusions Heart failure is not a single disease processes, but a continuum of disease processes that v.ry with age. The elderly with heart failure are an undertreated population, in part due to the multitude of co-morbidities that affect them. Further prospectiv. studies are needed to better understand the physiology and ideal treatment regiment in this growing population.

In the 1960s, when apartments were being introduced in South Korea and were not yet standardized, div.rse attempts at construction were made. Howev.r, due to factors such as the preference for houses that face south, apartment planning principles were unified. The present study intended to find out characteristics that can be applied to the current demands by studying cases of experimental plans among apartments, understanding the plans of courtyard apartments and classifying the cases into different types. The types of 29 courtyard apartments constructed in 1960-1970s in Seoul were analyzed. The apartments were classified into complex types that refer to cases where many buildings form a courtyard, block types, and open types. 2017 Higher Education Press Limited Company. Central Asian dry lands are grass- and desert shrub-dominated ecosystems stretching across Northern Eurasia. This region supports a population of more than 1 00 million which continues to grow at an av.rage rate of 1.5% annually. Dry steppes are the primary grain and cattle growing zone within Central Asia. Degradation of this ecosystem through burning and ov.rgrazing directly impacts economic growth and food supply in the region. Fire is a recurrent disturbance agent in dry lands contributing to soil erosion and air pollution. Here we prov.de an ov.rv.ew of inter-annual and seasonal fire dynamics in Central Asia obtained from remotely sensed data. We ev.luate the accuracy of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer （MODIS） global fire products within Central Asian dry lands and use these products to characterize fire occurrence between 2001 and 2009. The results show that on av.rage -15 million ha of land burns annually across Central Asia with the majority of the area burned in August and September in grasslands. Fire is used as a common crop residue management practice across the region. Nearly 89% of all burning occurs in Kazakhstan, where 5% and 3% of croplands and grasslands, respec- tiv.ly, are burned annually.
