The analytical formulation of piezoelectric flutter energy harvesting using a bistable material,while considering uncertainties in the model is presented in this *** laminates provide the advantage of large deflection due to the nonlinear snap-through characteristics when exposed to external loading,and can therefore provide a suitable base for piezoelectric material in energy harvesting applications.A piezoelectric material that is bounded on the surface of bistable laminates,subjected to external loading,generates large strains and hence relatively higher electrical output energy,in comparison with the case where piezoelectric material is bonded on a regular surface,with analogous loading *** information regarding the external loading,material characteristics of the bistable laminate and the piezoelectric material,boundary conditions,and overall electrical circuit efficiency can be defined for analytical purposes,the exact model of the system is not readily *** unavoidable uncertainties in the material,loading,and efficiency of a complex system call for a probabilistic ***,this paper provides a formulation that considers uncertainty bounds in obtaining a realistic *** Uncertainty Quantification(OUQ) is used in this paper,which takes into account uncertainty measures with optimal bounds and incomplete information about the system,as a well-defined optimization problem according to maximum probabilities,subjected to the imposed *** OUQ allows the inspection of the solution for a span of uncertain input parameters,as a reliable and realistic model.

Nature has endowed gaseous molecules such as O_(2),CO_(2),CO,NO,H2 S,and N2 with critical and diverse roles in sustaining life,from supplying energy needed to power life and building blocks for life ’s physical structure to mediating and coordinating cellular *** this article,we give a brief introduction of the complex functions of the various gaseous molecules in life and then focus on carbon monoxide as a specific example of an endogenously produced signaling molecule to highlight the importance of this class of *** past twenty years have seen much progress in understanding CO’s mechanism(s) of action and pharmacological effects as well as in developing delivery methods for easy *** remarkable trait of CO is its pleiotropic effects that have few parallels,except perhaps its sister gaseous signaling molecules such as nitric oxide and hydrogen *** review will delve into the sophistication of CO-mediated signaling as well as its validated pharmacological functions and possible therapeutic applications.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)is a progressive aortic dilatation,causing~80%mortality upon ***,there is no approved drug therapy for *** repairs are invasive and risky and thus not recommended to patients with small AAAs which,however,account for~90%of the newly diagnosed *** is therefore a compelling unmet clinical need to discover effective non-invasive strategies to prevent or slow down AAA *** contend that the first AAA drug therapy will only arise through discoveries of both effective drug targets and innovative delivery *** is substantial evidence that degenerative smooth muscle cells(SMCs)orchestrate AAA pathogenesis and *** this study,we made an exciting finding that PErK,the endoplasmic reticulum(Er)stress Protein Kinase r-like Er Kinase,is a potent driver of SMC degeneration and hence a potential therapeutic ***,local knockdown of PErK in elastase-challenged aorta significantly attenuated AAA lesions in *** parallel,we also conceived a biomimetic nanocluster(NC)design uniquely tailored to AAA-targeting drug *** NC demonstrated excellent AAA homing via a platelet-derived biomembrane coating;and when loaded with a selective PErK inhibitor(PErKi,GSK2656157),the NC therapy conferred remarkable benefits in both preventing aneurysm development and halting the progression of pre-existing aneurysmal lesions in two distinct rodent models of *** summary,our current study not only establishes a new intervention target for mitigating SMC degeneration and aneurysmal pathogenesis,but also provides a powerful tool to facilitate the development of effective drug therapy of AAA.
