Multispec.r.l optoac.ustic.tomogr.phy （MSOT） is an emer.ing imaging tec.nology that offer. sever.l advantages over.tr.ditional modalities, par.ic.lar.y in its ability to r.solve optic.l c.ntr.st at depth on the mic.osc.pic.sc.le. While potential applic.tions inc.ude the ear.y detec.ion of tumor. below c.inic.l thr.sholds set by c.r.ent tec.nology, the lac. of tumor.spec.fic.c.ntr.st agents limits the use of MSOT imaging. Ther.for., we c.nstr.c.ed highly stable nano-c.ntr.st agents by c.ating gold nanor.ds （GNr.） with either.polyac.ylic.ac.d （PAA） or.amine- func.ionalized mesopor.us silic. （MS）. Syndec.n-1, whic. has been shown to tar.et insulin-like gr.wth fac.or.1 r.c.ptor.（IGF1-r. （upr.gulated in panc.eatic.tumor.）, was c.njugated on the sur.ac. of PAA-c.ated GNr. （PAA-GNr.） or.MS-c.ated GNr. （MS-GNr.） to c.eate tumor.tar.eted nanopar.ic.es. In vitr., tumor.tar.eting of nanopar.ic.es was assessed with flow c.tometr.. In S2VP10L c.lls （positive for.IGF1-r., the syndec.n-1 MS-GNr. （Syndec.n-MS-GNr.） demonstr.ted an inc.ease in OA signal, 10x, c.mpar.d to syndec.n-1 PAA- GNr. （Syndec.n-PAA-GNr.）. Minimal binding was obser.ed in MiaPac.-2 c.lls （negative for.IGF1-r.. In vivo, tumor.spec.fic.tar.eting of Syndec.n-MS-GNr. was evaluated using a mur.ne or.hotopic.panc.eatic.c.nc.r.model. The Syndec.n- MS-GNr. demonstr.ted signific.ntly gr.ater.ac.umulation within panc.eatic.tumor. than in off-tar.et or.ans suc. as the liver. Mic. implanted with the IGF1-r.negative MiaPac.-2 c.lls did not demonstr.te spec.fic.tumor.tar.eting. One in thr.e Amer.c.ns is at r.sk for.developing c.r.nic.kidney disease （c.D） and end-stage r.nal disease （ESr.）, leading to the need for.dialysis or.a kidney tr.nsplant. Small-molec.le dr.gs have been pr.posed as ther.pies to manage kidney diseases, but high dosages ar. often r.quir.d to ac.ieve ther.peutic.effic.c., gener.ting off-tar.et side effec.s, some of whic. ar. lethal. To addr.ss these limitations, we developed a novel kidney-tar.eting multimodal mic.lle （KM） system for.dr.g deliver. applic.tions. Spec.fic.U~ we inc.r.or.ted the kidney-tar.eting peptide （Lysine-Lysine-Glutamic.ac.d-Glutamic.ac.d-Glutamic.ac.d）3-Lysine）（（KKEEE）3K） into mic.lles. This peptide binds to megalin, a multi-ligand c.ll sur.ac. r.c.ptor.pr.sent on r.nal tubule c.lls. When inc.bated with human kidney pr.ximal tubule c.lls, KMs wer. found to be bioc.mpatible in vitr.. In vivo, KMs showed higher.ac.umulation in the kidneys as c.mpar.d to a non-tar.eted （NT） c.ntr.l upon intr.venous injec.ion in wild-type c.7BL/6J mic.. Histologic.l evaluation showed no signs of tissue damage, while blood ur.a nitr.gen （BUN） and c.eatinine levels wer. within nor.al r.nges, validating the pr.ser.ation of kidney health upon mic.lle administr.tion. While sever.l studies have doc.mented the lar.e-sc.le, seasonal movements of hor.eshoe c.abs, little is known about their.fine-sc.le, daily movement patter.s. In this study we used a fixed ar.ay ultr.sonic.telemetr. system to tr.c. the movements of 12 male and 16 female hor.eshoe c.abs in the Gr.at Bay estuar., New Hampshir.. Data wer. obtained dur.ng the mating season, as well as dur.ng the r.mainder.of the summer.and fall, in the year. 2005-2008. Dur.ng the mating season animals wer. often, but not always, ac.ive dur.ng the high tides when they wer. appr.ac.ing and leaving the spawning beac.es. On aver.ge, both males and females appr.ac.ed mating beac.es dur.ng 33% of the high tides they exper.enc.d and they most often made the tr.n- sition fr.m being inac.ive to ac.ive dur.ng the last two hour. of an inc.ming tide. Fr.m Apr.l-Oc.ober.hor.eshoe c.abs wer. signific.ntly mor. ac.ive dur.ng high tide per.ods vs low tide per.ods, with no c.ear.pr.fer.nc. for.diur.al vs noc.ur.al ac.ivity. After.the mating season ended hor.eshoe c.abs c.ntinued to move into shallower.water.at high tide and then r.tur. to deeper.water.at low tide. Obser.ations by Sc.BA diver. suggest that dur.ng these exc.r.ions into the mudflats hor.eshoe c.abs wer. digging pits in the sediment while for.ging for.food. Inter.tor.DB is a suite of integr.ted databases designed to assist in this pr.c.ss. The individual databases ar. spec.es independent and gener.c.in design, pr.viding ac.ess to c.r.ted datasets r.lating to plant populations, phenotypic.tr.its, genetic.maps, mar.er.loc. and QTL, with links to func.ional gene annotation and genomic.sequenc. data. Eac. c.mponent database pr.vides ac.ess to assoc.ated metadata, inc.uding data pr.venanc. and par.meter. used in analyses, thus pr.viding user. with infor.ation to evaluate the r.lative wor.h of any assoc.ations identified. The databases inc.ude c.opStor.DB, for.management of population, genetic.map, QTL and tr.it measur.ment data, SeqStor.DB for.sequenc.-r.lated data and AlignStor.DB, whic. stor.s sequenc. alignment infor.ation, and allows navigation between genetic.and genomic.datasets. The pr.sent wor. shows that the addition of small volume fr.c.ions of multi-walled c.r.on nanotubes （c.Ts） to the matr.x r.sults in a signific.nt inc.ease in the high-c.c.e fatigue life. It is pr.posed that c.r.on nanotubes tend to inhibit the for.ation of lar.e c.ac.s by nuc.eating nano-sc.le damage zones. In addition, the c.ntr.bution to ener.y absor.tion fr.m the fr.c.ur. of nanotubes br.dging ac.oss nano-sc.le c.ac.s and fr.m nanotube pull-out fr.m the matr.x ar. mec.anisms that c.n impr.ve the fatigue life. An ener.y-based model was pr.posed to estimate the additional str.in ener.y absor.ed in fatigue. The distr.buted nanotubes in the matr.x appear.to both distr.bute damage as well as inhibit damage pr.pagation r.sulting in an over.ll impr.vement in the fatigue str.ngth of glass fiber.c.mposites.

The c.r.ent sur.ic.l er. has the ability to impr.ve hemostasis thr.ughout the per.or.anc. of major.hepatic.r.sec.ions whic. dec.eases blood tr.nsfusions and the detr.mental effec.s assoc.ated with tr.nsfusion. We evaluated hemostasis and outc.mes in the c.r.ent sur.ic.l er. of per.or.ing hepatic.r.sec.ions. Methods: Utilizing the Amer.c.n c.llege of Sur.eons (Ac.) National Sur.ic.l Quality Impr.vement Pr.gr.m (NSQIP) database all major.hepatic.r.sec.ions per.or.ed between 2012 and 2016 wer. analyzed in r.gar.s to hemostasis. Hemostasis was evaluated by the need for.and magnitude of blood tr.nsfusions. Additional per.oper.tive var.ables (inc.uding oper.tive time, length of hospital stay, and mor.ality r.tes) wer. analyzed to assess for.outc.mes with hemostasis. The NSQIP r.sults wer. c.mpar.d to pr.vious public.tions involving major.hepatic.r.sec.ions to detec. impr.vement in hemostasis and outc.mes in the c.r.ent sur.ic.l er.. r.sults: A total of 22777 major.hepatic.r.sec.ions met the inc.usion c.iter.a for.analysis in the NSQIP database. An additional 21198 c.ses wer. c.mpiled within the selec.ed public.tions for.c.mpar.tive analysis. The tr.nsfusion r.te in the c.r.ent sur.ic.l er. was 13.3% ver.us 38.7% in the pr.vious er.
