Genetic diversity and differentiation follow secondary succession in a multi-species study on woody plants from subtropical China

Self-expanding metal stents for the palliation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis

AIM To evaluate the efficacy of self-expanding metal stents(SEMS) for the palliation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction in patients with and without peritoneal carcinomatosis(PC).METHOdS We performed a retrospective analysis of 62 patients who underwent SEMS placement for treatment of malignant gastroduodenal obstruction at our hospital over a six-year period. Stents were deployed through the scope under combined fluoroscopic and endoscopic guidance. Technical success was defined as successful stent placement and expansion. Clinical success was defined as an improvement in the obstructive symptoms and discharge from hospital without additional parenteral nutrition. According to carcinomatosis status, patients were assigned into groups with or without evidence of peritoneal *** In most cases, obstruction was caused by pancreatic(47%) or gastric cancer(23%). Technical success was achieved in 96.8%(60/62), clinical success in 79%(49/62) of all patients. Signs of carcinomatosis were identified in 27 patients(43.5%). The diagnosis was confirmed by pathology or previous operation in 7 patients(11.2%) and suspected by CT, MRI or ultrasound in 20 patients(32.2%). Presence of carcinomatosis was associated with a significantly lower clinical success rate compared to patients with no evidence of peritoneal disease(66.7% vs 88.6%, P = 0.036). There was no significant difference in overall survival between patients with or without PC(median 48 d vs 70 d, P = 0.21), but patients showed significantly longer survival after clinical success of SEMS placement compared to those experiencing clinical failure(median 14.5 d vs 75 d, P = 0.0003).CONCLUSION Given the limited therapeutic options and a clinical success rate of at least 66.7%, we believe that SEMS are a reasonable treatment option in patients with malignant gastric outlet obstruction with peritoneal carcinomatosis.

AIM To describe the imaging features of serous neoplasms of the pancreas using ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance *** This multicenter international collaboration enhances a literature review to date, reporting features of 287 histologically confirmed cases of serous pancreatic cystic neoplasms(SPN). RESULTS Female predominance is seen with most SPN presenting asymptomatically in the 5th through 7th decade. Heat and hazardous contaminant transports in ventilated high-rise industrial halls

Performances and efficiencies of displacement ventilation(dV) and partial ventilation(PV) for industrial halls of different configurations as well as the heat and mass transports within the industrial halls were numerically investigated. Three levels of Rayleigh number(5.8×1010, 1.0×1012 and 2.1×1012) and two values of source contaminant flux(5 mg/s and 50 mg/s) were considered. The inlet Reynolds numbers were 2×104, 5×104, 1.5×105 and 4.5×105 for dV and 5×105, 1×106, 2×106 and 4×106 for PV, respectively. From the results, it is concluded that the above parameters have very complex impacts on the conjugated heat and mass transports. From points of view of acceptable indoor air quality and ventilation efficiency, PV at Re=1×106 with side-located sources and 65% of the supply air extracted through floor level outlets is the best choice when Ra=5.8×1010. However, dVs at Re=5×104 and Re=1.5×105with center-located sources and floor-mounted air suppliers are the best choices for Ra=1.0×1012 and Ra=2.1×1012, respectively. When source contaminant flux reaches 50 mg/s, local extraction as a supplement of general ventilation is recommended. The results can be a first approximation to 3d numerical investigation and preliminary ventilation system design guidelines for high-rise industrial halls.

Species and endosymbiont diversity of Bemisia tabaci （Homoptera： Aleyrodidae） on vegetable crops in Senegal

Bemisia tabaci-transmitted geminiviruses are one of the major threats on cassava and vegetable crops in Africa. However, to date, few studies are available on the diversity orB. tabaci and their associated endosymbionts in Africa. More than 28 species have been described in the complex ofB. tabaci cryptic species; among them, 2 are invasive pests worldwide： MEd and MEAM1. In order to assess the species diversity orB. tabaci in vegetable crops in Senegal, several samplings in different localities, hosts and seasons were collected and analyzed with nuclear （microsatellite） and mitochondrial （COI） markers. The bacterial endosymbiont community was also studied for each sample. Two species were detected： MEd Q1 and MEAM1 B. Patterns of MEd Q1 （dominance on most of the samples and sites, highest nuclear and mitochondrial diversity and broader secondary endosymbiont community： Hamiltonella, Cardinium, Wolbachia and Rickettsia）, point toward a predominant resident begomovirus vector group for MEd Q 1 on market gardening crops. Furthermore, the lower prevalence of the second species MEAM1 B, its lower nuclear and mitochondrial diversity and a narrower secondary endosymbiont community （Hamiltonella/Rickettsia）, indicate that this genetic group is exotic and results from a recent invasion in this area.
