Introduction: Measles remains a worrying health problem in sub-Saharan Af.ican countries. there have been measles outbreaks in Cameroon with the most recent occurring between October 2022 and September 2023. the Centre region of.Cameroon was the most af.ected in the country and being at the f.ontline of.the f.ght against this illness, we conducted this study in order to determine the epidemiological and clinical characteristics as well as the outcome of.children who contracted the measles and were hospitalized at the Yaoundé Gynaeco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital. Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive and prospective study f.r one year f.om October 2022 to November 2023 corresponding to the duration of.the outbreak. We included all children admitted in the pediatric unit f.r measles and its complications during this period. Results: In total, 60 children were enrolled. their caregivers were mostly their mothers who had a mean age of.34.71 ± 9.55 years living in signif.cant precarious conditions f.r the majority. the median age of.children was 16 months (09 - 30 months). twenty six percent of.children (16) were less than 9 months. Girls were predominant (55%). Most children were not up to date with their routine EPI vaccination (80%) and most did not receive the measles and Rubella vaccine (76.67%). Clinical manif.stations, included f.ver, conjunctivitis, and cough. Skin rash and catarrh (98.33% and 86.67% respectively) are the case def.nition signs of.measles. the outcome was unf.vorable f.r 4 children. One had a neurological disorder: coma and three presented with pneumonia and severe respiratory distress (6.67%). Conclusion: Measles is still being a reality and claiming lives in our context, emphasis should be made on immunization coverage and if.possible, advocacies should be f.rmulated to decrease the age of.measles vaccine administration.

BACKGROUND Ureteropelvic junction obstruction(UPJO)is a common congenital urinary tract disorder in *** can be diagnosed as early as in utero due to the presence of.hydronephrosis or later in lif. due to symptomatic *** to evaluate the discrepancy between dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance urography(dMRU)and scintigraphy 99m-technetium mercaptoacetyltriglycine(MAG-3)f.r the f.nctional evaluation of.*** Between 2016 and 2020,126 patients with UPJO underwent surgery at Robert Debré*** these,83 received a prenatal diagnosis,and 43 were diagnosed during *** of.the 126 patients underwent surgery based on the clinical situation and postnatal ultrasound f.ndings without undergoing f.nctional imaging *** renal f.nction was evaluated preoperatively using scintigraphy MAG-3(n=28),dMRU(n=53),or both(n=40).In this study,we included patients who underwent surgery f.r UPJO and scintigraphy MAG-3+dMRU but excluded those who underwent only scintigraphy MAG-3 or *** patients were divided into groups A(10%discrepancy).We examined the discrepancy in split renal f.nction between the two modalities and investigated the possible risk *** the split renal f.nction between the two kidneys was compared in 40 patients(28 boys and 12 girls)using scintigraphy MAG-3 and *** renal f.nction,as determined using both modalities,showed a dif.erence of.10%in 31 children and>10%in 9 *** of.the relative renal f.nction using dMRU revealed an excellent correlation coef.icient with renal scintigraphy MAG-3 f.r both *** Our f.ndings demonstrated that dMRU is equivalent to scintigraphy MAG-3 f.r evaluating split renal f.nction in patients with UPJO.

Predator odors can elicit f.ar responses in prey and predator odor recognition is generally associated with physiological responses. Prey species are of.en more likely to respond to the odor of.f.miliar ra- ther than alien predators. However, predator na＇ivety in an introduced prey species has rarely been investigated. We examined the physiological response, as shown by changes in ventilatory vari- ables, of.an introduced terrestrial herbivore, the European rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus, in Australia, to the odor of.potential predators and to control odors （distilled water and horse）, to explore if.res- ponses were limited to historical （cat and f.x） predators, or extended to historically novel predators （snake and quoll）. All odors except distilled water elicited a response, with rabbits showing long- term higher respiratory f.equencies and lower tidal volumes af.er introduction of.the odors, indi- cating an increase in alertness. However, the intensity of.the rabbits＇ reaction could not be directly linked to any pattern of.response with respect to the history of.predator-prey relationships. Rabbits exhibited signif.cantly stronger reactions in response to both cat and quoll odors than they did to dis- tilled water, but responses to horse, f.x, and snake odor were similar to that of.water. Our results show that the introduced rabbit can respond to both historical and novel predators in Australia, and suggest that shared evolutionary history is not necessarily a prerequisite to predator odor recognition.

Sporadic venous malf.rmations are genetic conditions primarily caused by somatic gain-of.f.nction mutation of.PIK3CA or tEK,an endothelial transmembrane receptor signaling through *** malf.rmations are associated with pain,bleedings,thrombosis,pulmonary embolism,esthetic def.rmities and,in severe cases,lif.-threatening *** authorized medical treatment exists f.r patients with venous ***,we created a genetic mouse model of.PIK3CA-related capillary venous malf.rmations that replicates patient *** showed that these malf.rmations only partially signal through AKt *** compared the ef.icacy of.dif.erent drugs,including rapamycin,a mtORC1 inhibitor,miransertib,an AKt inhibitor and alpelisib,a PI3Kαinhibitor at improving the lesions seen in the mouse *** demonstrated the ef.ectiveness of.alpelisib in preventing vascular malf.rmations’occurrence,improving the already established ones,and prolonging *** these f.ndings,we were authorized to treat 25 patients with alpelisib,including 7 children displaying PIK3CA(n=16)or tEK(n=9)-related capillary venous malf.rmations resistant to usual therapies including sirolimus,debulking surgical procedures or percutaneous *** assessed the volume of.vascular malf.rmations using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)f.r each *** demonstrated improvement in all 25 *** malf.rmations previously considered intractable were reduced and clinical symptoms were *** showed a decrease of.33.4%and 27.8%in the median volume of.PIK3CA and tEK malf.rmations respectively,over 6 months on *** conclusion,this study supports PI3Kαinhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in patients with PIK3CA or tEK-related capillary venous malf.rmations.

Introduction:Current land use in the f.deral District,Western Central Brazil,causes problems related to the water supply which are linked to the regulation of.ecosystem services(ES).In scope of.an Integrated Water Resources Management concept,we f.rther developed the web-based planning support tool GISCAME f.r the Pipiripau river basin case ***:We introduced analyses on ecosystem potentials in the raster-based tool to assess,in a spatially explicit manner,the scenario impact on water purif.cation,sediment retention,water retention,and provision of.f.od and f.dder in order to identif. potential pathways f.r conserving water *** demonstrate the method,we assess ES depending on a number of.land use/land cover change(LULCC)***:We f.und that a considerable increase of.water purif.cation and sediment retention is dif.icult to achieve with realistic small scale LULCC,mainly because in areas with a low potential to provide hydrological ES and thus with a high demand f.r sustainable land use,such as native Savanna(Cerrado)and natural f.rests(Mata),f.vorable land uses were of.en already *** observed synergies in the response of.regulating hydrological ES to LULCC but at the same time also trade-of.s with provision of.f.od and ***:Our f.ndings suggest that f.rther degradation and loss of.Cerrado and Mata must be avoided and their restoration should be promoted in order to saf.guard water *** suggest that restoration measures should be f.cused on arable land located at steep slopes near surf.ce waters to ef.ectively increase hydrological ES through the marginal reduction of.provision services.

Innovative catalysts based on a "porous glass" support material were developed and investigated f.r the reduction of.benzalace-tophenone. the easy preparation conditions and possibility to use dif.erent metals (e.g. Pd, Pt, Rh) f.r impregnation gave a broad variety of.these catalysts. Hydrogenation experiments with these supported catalysts were carried out under dif.erent hydrogen pressures and temperatures. Porous glass catalysts with Pd as the active component gave chemoselective hydrogenation of.benzalacetophenone, while Pt- and Rh-catalysts tended to f.rther reduce the carbonyl group, especially at elevated hydrogen pressures and temperatures. Kinetic analysis of.the reactions revealed these had zero order kinetics, which was independent of.the type of.porous glass support and solvent used.

trong>Background:trong> In the treatment of.morbid obesity bariatric surgery has become the method of.choice. Dopamine is the primary modulator of.the brain’s reward system and plays an essential role in the regulation of.f.od intake. the role of.dopamine is well documented in weight regulation and f.od intake in both animal models and humans. Still, the role of.dopamine has not been well studied f.r weight loss. Catechol-O-methyltransf.rase (COMt) degrades catecholamines and estrogens are both known to be important risk f.ctors f.r cardiovascular diseases and consequently obesity. the gene coding f.r COMt contains a Val108/158Met polymorphism that exerts a considerable inf.uence on enzymatic activity. We hypothesized that this polymorphism might inf.uence weight loss in obese patients, who previously underwent gastric banding surgery. In obesity research, it is known that women tend to lose more weight than men, and weight bef.re surgery might also af.ect the outcome of.weight loss ef.orts. Several studies have shown that physical activity (PA) plays an important role in maintaining weight as well as in both non-surgical and surgical weight loss. theref.re, we examined whether gender, age, weight bef.re surgery and PA are good predictor variables f.r the outcome of.surgical weight loss. trong>Methods:trong> One to six years af.er bariatric surgery 74 adults underwent a semi-structured interview. In a second step data on the post-surgical PA level were collected with the Moorehead-Ardelt Quality of.Lif. Questionnaire. f.nally, mouth swabs were used f.r genotyping. trong>Results:trong> 54 women and 20 men were enrolled between January 2004 and September 2009. Short-term EWL in the mid-activity genotype dopamine group (GA) was signif.cantly higher (p = 0.007) than was short-term EWL in the low-activity genotype dopamine group (AA) or in the high-activity genotype dopamine group (GG). However, there were no signif.cant dif.erences between the COMt groups

Nanostructured known to exhibit properties metal surf.ces have been that deviate f.om that of.the bulk material. By simply modif.ing the texture of.a metal surf.ce, various unique optical properties can be observed. In this paper, we present a simple two step electrochemical process combining electrodeposition and anodization to generate black gold surf.ces. this process is simple, versatile and up-scalable f.r the production of.large surf.ces. the black gold f.lms have remarkable optical behavior as they absorb more than 93% of.incident light over the entire visible spectrum and also exhibit no specular ref.ectance. A caref.l analysis by scanning electron microscopy reveals that these unique optical properties are due to their randomly rough surf.ce, as they consist in a f.rest of.dendritic microstructures with a nanoscale roughness. this new type of.black f.lms can be f.bricated to a large variety of.substrates, turning them to super absorbers with potential applications in photovoltaic solar cells or highly sensitive detectors and so on.
