Introduction:Interrelated social and ecological challenges demand an understanding of how environmental change and management decisions affect human *** paper out-lines a framework for measuring human well-being for ecosystem-based management(EBM).We present a prototype that can be adapted and developed for various scales and *** and managers use indicators to assess status and trends in integrated ecosystem assessments(IEAs).To improve the social science rigor and success of EBM,we developed a systematic and transparent approach for evaluating indicators of human well-being for an ***:Our process is based on a comprehensive conceptualization of human well-being,a scalable analysis of management priorities,and a set of indicator screening criteria tailored to the needs of *** tested our approach by evaluating more than 2000 existing social indicators related to ocean and coastal management of the US West *** focused on two foundational attributes of human well-being:resource access and *** and Discussion:Our results suggest that existing indicators and data are limited in their ability to reflect linkages between environmental change and human well-being,and extremely limited in their ability to assess social equity and *** reveal a critical need for new social indicators tailored to answer environmental questions and new data that are disaggregated by social variables to measure *** both,we stress the importance of collaborating with the people whose well-being is to be ***:Our framework is designed to encourage governments and communities to carefully assess the complex tradeoffs inherent in environmental decision-making.

Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical characterization of different mesoporous TiO2 film electrodes for the immobilization of cytochrome c

In this work three different mesoporous TiO2 film electrodes were prepared and used for the immobilization of cytochrome c （cyt-c）. Films prepared via a standard sol-gel route （SG-films） were compared with commercially available benchmark nanotitania materials, namely P25 Degussa （P25-films） and Dyesol nanopaste （Dyesol films）. Their properties, film deposition characteristics and their abilities to adsorb protein molecules in a stable and functional way were examined. We investigated whether it is possible, rather than preparing TiO2 films using multistep, lengthy and not always reproducible sol-gel procedures, to use commercially available nanotitania materials and produce reproducible films faster that exhibit all the properties that make TiO2 films ideal for protein immobilization. Although these materials are formulated primarily for dye-sensitized solar cell applications, in this study we found out that protein immobilization is facile and remarkably stable on all of them. We also investigated their electrochemical properties by using cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemistry and found out that not only direct reduction of Fe（III）-heme to Fe（II）-heme of immobilized cyt-c was possible on all flms but that the adsorbed protein remained electroactive.

Volatile and c-H-O isotopic compositions of giant Fe-Ti-V oxide deposits in the Panxi region and their implications for the sources of volatiles and the origin of Fe-Ti oxide ores

The Panzhihua,Hongge,and Baima Fe-Ti-V oxide deposits in the Panzhihua-Xichang(Panxi) region are hosted in large layered mafic-ultramafic *** layered intrusions intrude either the Neoproterozoic Dengying Formation,composed mainly of limestone,or the Paleoproterozoic Hekou Formation,composed of meta-sedimentary-volcanic *** remains unclear if the wall rocks have been involved during the fractionation of magmas and have affected the sequence of crystallization of Fe-Ti *** and their c-H-O isotopic compositions of magnetite,apatite,clinopyroxene,and plagioclase of different types of ores from the three intrusions are analyzed using a technique of stepwise heating mass spectrometer to evaluate the role of wall rocks in the formation of Fe-Ti oxide *** released from magnetite are composed mainly of H 2 O and cO 2,whereas the other minerals are composed mainly of H 2 O,cO 2 and H *** 800-1200°c temperature interval,the average 13 c values of cO 2 of all the minerals from the three intrusions range from 7.7‰ to 13.5‰ and the average 18 O cO 2 values from 19.1‰ to 19.5‰,which are scattered in a mixed field with basalt and the two types of wall rocks as end-members,indicating that cO 2 from the wall rocks may have been involved in the magmas from which the three intrusions *** 400-800 c temperature interval,both 13 c values(13.7‰ to 17.9‰ on the average) and 18 O values(16.2‰ to 19.2‰ on the average) of cO 2 of all the minerals are lower than those for 800-1200 c temperature interval,and much closer to the values of the wall *** H 2 O released at the 400-800 c temperature interval has relatively low D values ranging from 90‰ to 115‰,also indicating the involvement of fluids from the wall *** average bulk contents of volatiles released from magnetite of the Hongge,Baima,and Panzhihua intrusions are 4891,2996,and 1568 mm 3 STP/g,respectively,much higher than those released from other minerals in total,which are 382

comparison of sperm retrieval and reproductive outcome in azoospermic men with testicular failure and obstructive azoospermia treated for infertility

We assessed the rates of sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes, including the neonatal profile of infants conceived, in men with testicular failure. Three-hundred and sixty-five men with testicular failure who underwent micro-dissection testicular sperm extraction were included in this study. We compared their outcomes with 40 men with testicular failure who used donor sperm for injections due to failed retrieval, and 146 men with obstructive azoospermia who underwent percutaneous sperm retrieval. The retrieval rate in testicular failure was 41.4%, and the results were lower than the obstructed azoospermia （100%; adjusted odds ratio： 0.033; 95% ch 0.007-0.164; P 〈 0.001）. Live birth rates after sperm injections were lower in men with testicular failure （19.9%） compared with donor sperm （37.5%; adjusted OR： 0.377 （95% ch 0.233-0.609, P 〈 0.001）） and obstructive azoospermia （34.2%; adjusted OR： 0.403 （95% cI： 0.241-0.676, P= 0.001）. Newborn parameters of infants conceived were not significantly different among the groups. We concluded that the chances of obtaining sperm on retrieval and achieving a live birth after intracytoplasmic sperm injection （IcSI） are reduced in men with testicular failure. The profile of infants conceived after sperm injection does not seem to be negatively affected by testicular failure.

Macro-and microcirculation patterns of intrahepatic blood flow changes in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia

AIM To evaluated vascular dynamic processes in the liver of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia(HHT) patients by ultrasound(US) considering quantitative analytic methods. METHODS The imaging features on US and contrast-enhanced ultrasound(cEUS) in 18 patients diagnosed with HHT were retrospectively analyzed. Regarding cEUS, realtime contrast harmonic imaging and sulfur hexafluoridefilled microbubbles were used. RESULTS HVa Ms were identified in all 18 patients. By US, the two major caselitz criteria could be detected in 55.6% patients. "color spots" were detected in 72.2% of the cases. Respecting sonographic grading criteria by Buscarini, grade 3 could be demonstrated most frequent(40%). By cEUS, all the patients showed quick and early hyperenhancement during the arterial phase. Significant lowest time to peak(TTP) and highest area under the curve(AUc) values were identified in the hepatic artery(TTP: 69.8%; AUc: 100%) and highest TTP and lowest AUc in the hepatic parenchyma and the portal vein. cONcLUSION For the first time we analyzed cEUS findings of a group of HHT patients regarding macro- and microcirculation. Our data demonstrate significant differences in TTP and AUc values in the four selected regions: hepatic artery, shunt region, portal vein and hepatic parenchyma.

The multi-organ failure syndrome associated with acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure(AcLF)is thought to be mediated by overwhelming systemic inflammation triggered by both microbial and non-microbial *** plasma exchange(TPE)has been proven to be an efficacious therapy in autoimmune conditions and altered immunity,with more recent data supporting its use in the management of liver *** therapies have been shown to improve survival in critically ill patients with liver failure who are not expected to survive until liver transplantation(LT),who are ineligible for LT or who have no access to *** has been shown to reduce the levels of inflammatory cytokines,modulate adaptive immunity with the potential to lessen the susceptibility to infections,and reduce the levels of albumin-bound and water-bound toxins in liver *** patients with acute liver failure,high volume TPE has been shown to reduce the vasopressor requirement and improve survival,particularly in patients not eligible for *** volume TPE has also been shown to reduce mortality in certain sub-populations of patients with *** may be most favorably employed as a bridge to LT in patients with *** this review,we discuss the efficacy and technical considerations of TPE in both acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure.
