Heart rate variability and the influence of craniosacral therapy on autonomous nervous system regulation in persons with subjective discomforts:a pilot study

BACKGROUND： Subjective discomforts in a preclinical range are often due to imbalanced autonomic nervous system activity, which is a focus of craniosacral therapy. OBJECTIVE： The aim of this work was to determine any changes in heart rate variability （HRV） in a study on craniosacral therapy. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： This is a quasi-experimental （controlled） study with cross-over design. In a private practice, measurements were performed on 31 patients with subjective discomforts before and after a control and an intervention period. HRV was determined using a device that requires a measuring time of 140 s and electrode contact only with the fingertips. Main PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES： HRV change under the influence of a defined onetime intervention （test intervention） with craniosacral therapy versus control （defined rest period）. RESULTS： Standard deviation of all RR-intervals （ms） and total power of RR-interval variability in the frequency range （ms2） were together interpreted as an indicator of test subjects＇ autonomic nervous activity and as a measure of their ability to cope with demands on their health. Neither of these parameters increased during the control period （P〉0.05）, whereas during the test intervention period there was an increase in both （P〈0.05, P〈0.01）. Nevertheless, interactions between treatment and the increase were statistically not significant （P〉0.05）. No changes were observed in the low frequency/high frequency ratio （sympathetic-vagal balance） in the course of the control or the test intervention period （P〉0.05）. CONCLUSION： Craniosacral treatment had a favourable effect on autonomic nervous activity. This in itself is an interesting result, but further research will be needed to distinguish specific effects of craniosacral therapy technique from less specific therapist-client interaction effects.

Blood-borne small non-coding(snc RNAs)are among the prominent candidates for blood-based diagnostic ***,high-throughput approaches are applied to discover biomarker *** have to be validated in larger cohorts and evaluated by adequate statistical learning ***,we published high-throughput sequencing based microRNA(miRNA)signatures in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)patients in the United States(US)and ***,we determined abundance levels of 21 known circulating miRNAs in 465 individuals encompassing AD patients and controls by *** computed models to assess the relation between miRNA expression and phenotypes,gender,age,or disease severity(Mini-Mental State Examination;MMSE).Of the 21 miRNAs,expression levels of 20 miRNAs were consistently de-regulated in the US and German cohorts.18 miRNAs were significantly correlated with neurodegeneration(Benjamini-Hochberg adjusted P<0.05)with highest significance for miR-532-5 p(BenjaminiHochberg adjusted P=4.8×10^-30).Machine learning models reached an area under the curve(AUC)value of 87.6%in differentiating AD patients from ***,ten miRNAs were significantly correlated with MMSE,in particular miR-26a/26b-5p(adjusted P=0.0002).Interestingly,the miRNAs with lower abundance in AD were enriched in monocytes and T-helper cells,while those up-regulated in AD were enriched in serum,exosomes,cytotoxic t-cells,and *** study represents the next important step in translational research for a miRNA-based AD test.

The Pocos de Caldas Plateau is formed by the alkaline intrusion of Pocos de Caldas and surrounding metamorphic basement. It is characterized as a remnant of the South American Planation Surface resulted from erosional events from Late Cretaceous-Paleogene transition. Pocos de Caldas Alkaline Massif (PCAM) was formed during alkaline volcanism event from the Late Cretaceous. It is located on the west side of the Mantiqueira Mountain Range, characterized by alkaline rocks and topography reaches over 1700 m high. A major feature of denudation is the development of the “circular drainage”, a particular feature of some caldera and other circular or concentric structural features. Recent tectonic movements may critically affect regional geomorphology by influencing river patterns and orientations. The morphometric analysis shows that some rivers are controlled by reactivated faults, however, in some regions the lithology has major influence in the rivers development.

This paper gives an introduction to the essential challenges of software engineering and requirements that software has to fulfill in the domain of automation. Besides, the functional characteristics, specific constraints and circumstances are considered for deriving requirements concerning usability, the technical process, the automation functions, used platform and the well-established models, which are described in detail. On the other hand, challenges result from the circumstances at different points in the single phases of the life cycle of the automated system. The requirements for life-cycle-management, tools and the changeability during runtime are described in detail.

On the December 25,2020,*** Jie,the Emeritus Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Education at Nanjing Normal University passed *** sudden news struck me and recalled my nearly 30 years’friendship with *** since 1991,stirring up also my memories of pre-1949 christian colleges of China,and the promotion of“education of love”at Ginling College and Nanjing Normal University,from the time of *** Yifang,*** Vautrin,*** Xingzhi and *** *** this paper,I shall recall the various meetings with *** Jie,and how her life has inspired my re-thinking of the development of“education of love”in China.I shall relate especially her humanistic educational ideals,especially the“education for life”and“cultivating human beings”with *** Xingzhi’s“education of love.”Their educational ideals reflected the humanistic education taught at the University of Nanking and Ginling College in the first half of 20th century *** the two colleges had brought in a Western style of education,they had exemplified good models of indigenization,especially regarding how humanistic education could become Sinifized in Chinese soil today.

AIM:To evaluate the ability of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) elastography to distinguish benign from malignant pancreatic masses and lymph ***:A multicenter study was conducted and included 222 patients who underwent EUS examination with assessment of a pancreatic mass(n=121) or lymph node(n=101).The classification as benign or malignant,based on the real time elastography pattern,was compared with the classif ication based on the B-mode EUS images and with the fi nal diagnosis obtained by EUS-guided fi ne needle aspiration(EUS-FNA) and/or by surgical *** interobserver study was ***:The sensitivity and specificity of EUS elastography to differentiate benign from malignant pancreatic lesions are 92.3% and 80.0%,respectively,compared to 92.3% and 68.9%,respectively,for the conventional B-mode *** sensitivity and specificity of EUS elastography to differentiate benign from malignant lymph nodes was 91.8% and 82.5%,respectively,compared to 78.6% and 50.0%,respectively,for the B-mode *** kappa coefficient was 0.785 for the pancreatic masses and 0.657 for the lymph ***:EUS elastography is superior compared to conventional B-mode imaging and appears to be able to distinguish benign from malignant pancreatic masses and lymph nodes with a high sensitivity,specificity and *** might be reserved as a second line examination to help characterise pancreatic masses after negative EUS-FNA and might increase the yield of EUS-FNA for lymph nodes.

Heterogeneously integrating III-V materials on silicon photonic integrated circuits has emerged as a promising approach to make advanced laser sources for optical communication and sensing applications. Tunable semiconductor lasers operating in the 2–2.5 μm range are of great interest for industrial and medical applications since many gases(e.g., CO_2, CO, CH_4) and biomolecules(such as blood glucose) have strong absorption features in this wavelength region. The development of integrated tunable laser sources in this wavelength range enables low-cost and miniature spectroscopic sensors. Here we report heterogeneously integrated widely tunable III-V-on-silicon Vernier lasers using two silicon microring resonators as the wavelength tuning components. The laser has a wavelength tuning range of more than 40 nm near 2.35 μm. By combining two lasers with different distributed Bragg reflectors, a tuning range of more than 70 nm is achieved. Over the whole tuning range, the side-mode suppression ratio is higher than 35 dB. As a proof-of-principle, this III-V-on-silicon Vernier laser is used to measure the absorption lines of CO. The measurement results match very well with the high-resolution transmission molecular absorption(HITRAN) database and indicate that this laser is suitable for broadband spectroscopy.
