Background: The German registry for cataract surgery was established in 2014. The main aim of this registry was to improve cataract surgery outcomes. Aim: The aim of this project is to offer a tool for benchmarking through the establishment of a reference database in Germany where surgeons could record and analyze their own outcomes. Methods: Data were collected between January 2018 and December 2018. The analyzed data included parameters of surgical technique, implanted intraocular lens (IOL), refractive and visual outcomes. Results: During the year of 2018, the German registry included 10,035 lens exchange surgeries and the complete follow-up was available for 9882 lens extractions. Approximately one third of the patients were between 76 and 80 years old and 60.6% of the cases had a best-corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) before surgery of 0.5 or better. Parabulbar anesthesia was reported in 60.4% of the cases and phacoemulsification with implantation of a posterior chamber IOL was the chosen method in 92.2% of the cases. The power of the implanted IOL was between 21.0 - 22.9D in 29.4% of eyes. Surgical complications were reported in only 413 cases. After surgery, a CDVA of 0.5 or better was achieved in 90.8% of the cases. Most of the operated patients (64%) had a residual refractive error within ±0.5D (95% confidence interval 63.2 - 65.1). Conclusions: Our results show that the registry was implementedsuccessfully with results comparable to the ones reported in EUREQUO.

Here,we study the hydride formation in a metastable Ti-33Zr-22Hf-11Ta(at.%)refractory high entropy alloy(RHEA).Deviating to non-equiatomic compositions of RHEAs promotes the formation of transformation-induced plasticity where the body-centered cubic phase transforms to hexagonal close-packed(HCP)*** is found that the phase transformation capability assists the hydride formation due to the low solubility of hydrogen within the HCP *** this study,hydrogen is charged via electrochemical polishing and the corresponding phase transformation is activated in the metastable *** newly formed HCP phase interacts with hydrogen to form a face-centered cubic hydride verified by electron energy loss *** work provides a primary exploration of the formation of compositionally complex metal hydrides in the metastable RHEAs,which are potential candidates for future hydrogen storage material design.

fUNAABOR-2 is a popular Ofada rice variety grown in a large area under rainfed upland condition across western states of Nigeria. We used the combination of phenotypic and marker-assisted selection(MAS) to improve grain yield of fUNAABOR-2 under drought stress(DS) at the reproductive stage via introgression of two drought quantitative trait loci(QTLs), qDTY12.1 and qDTY2.3. foreground selection was carried out using peak markers RM511 and RM250, associated with qDTY12.1 and qDTY2.3, respectively, followed by recombinant selection with RM28099 and RM1261 distally flanking qDTY12.1. furthermore, BC1 f2-derived introgressed lines and their parents were evaluated under DS and non-stress(NS) conditions during the 2015–2016 dry season. Overall reduction of grain yield under DS compared to NS was recorded. Introgressed lines with qDTY12.1 and qDTY2.3 combinations showed higher yield potential compared to lines with single or no QTL under DS, indicating significant positive interactions between the two QTLs under the fUNAABOR-2 genetic background. Pyramiding of qDTY12.1 and qDTY2.3 in the fUNAABOR-2 genetic background led to higher grain yield production under DS and NS.

Genotype diversity is an important component of biodiversity,and has potential positive effects on ecological processes,such as primary *** studies suggest that crop cultivar mixtures can improve biomass or yield,however,the generality and size of this effect,as well as the underlying mechanisms are *** selected nine genotypes of spring wheat(Triticum aestivum L.),and tested monocultures(of one genotype)and mixtures(of nine genotypes)to verify whether the positive effect of genotype diversity could be ***,we arranged two planting environments,real field and artificial pot conditions,to clarify how the effect of genotype diversity depends on environmental *** showed that the effect of genotype diversity was highly dependent on the planting environment;compared with monocultures,mixtures significantly improved aboveground biomass and grain yield of spring wheat in pots by 14.5%and 8.2%,respectively,while no improvements were observed in the *** pots,positive complementarity effects dominated the positive net effect by offsetting negative sampling effects,while no significant diversity effects were observed in the *** greater trait differences in pots were more favorable for resource-use complementarity and reducing intraspecific competition,which might be the main reason for the large positive complementary effect in *** results suggest that increasing the biomass and grain yield of spring wheat by providing genotypic diversity was supported by specific ecological mechanisms and could be ***,environmental conditions in actual production may limit its efficacy,and more extensive field experiments are thus needed to verify the effectiveness of genotype diversity.

AIM To describe the imaging features of serous neoplasms of the pancreas using ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance *** This multicenter international collaboration enhances a literature review to date, reporting features of 287 histologically confirmed cases of serous pancreatic cystic neoplasms(SPN). Entanglement-based quantum key distribution(QKD)promises enhanced robustness against eavesdropping and compatibility with future quantum *** other sources,semiconductor quantum dots(QDs)can generate polarization-entangled photon pairs with near-unity entanglement fidelity and a multiphoton emission probability close to zero even at maximum *** properties have been demonstrated under resonant two-photon excitation(TPE)and at operation temperatures below 10 ***,source blinking is often reported under TPE conditions,limiting the maximum achievable photon *** addition,operation temperatures reachable with compact cryocoolers could facilitate the widespread deployment of QDs,e.g.,in satellite-based quantum *** demonstrate blinking-free emission of highly entangled photon pairs from GaAs QDs embedded in a p-i-n *** fidelity entanglement persists at temperatures of at least 20 K,which we use to implement fiber-based QKD between two buildings with an average raw key rate of 55 bits/s and a qubit error rate of 8.4%.We are confident that by combining electrical control with already demonstrated photonic and strain engineering,QDs will keep approaching the ideal source of entangled photons for real world applications.
