Backgro.nd: Cervical cancer is the fo.rth mo.t co.mo. cancer amo.g wo.en glo.ally, the seco.d mo.t co.mo. cancer in Nigeria and the mo.t co.mo. cause o. cancer-related death in Africa. In 2020, Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio. in its updated guidelines reco.mended cervical cancer screening using HPV DNA, HPV mRNA tests and subsequent treatment as appro.riate. Ho.ever, in reso.rce-po.r settings, Visual Inspectio.s with Acetic Acid (VIA), Lugo.’s Io.ine (VILI) and subsequent treatment o. precancero.s lesio.s with thermal ablatio. remain the practical appro.ches. o.jectives: To.determine the prevalence o. precancero.s cervical lesio.s and asso.iated risk facto.s amo.g Wo.en Living with HIV (WLHIV). Metho.s: A retro.pective study o. sexually active WLHIV aged 16 - 55 years screened fo. cervical cancer using VIA and VILI within 16 mo.ths perio. in Faith Alive Ho.pital Jo.. Data were analyzed using IBM-SPSS 26. So.io.emo.raphic characteristics o. the study participants and the screening results were presented in frequency tables, and lo.istic regressio. was perfo.med to.determine risk facto.s o. pre-cancero.s lesio.s. Results: 1113 wo.en were screened fo. cervical cancer using VIA/VILI. 994 (89.3%) were negative, 101 (9.1%) were po.itive fo. precancero.s lesio.s, and 18 (1.6%) were suspicio.s o. cervical cancer. The mean age o. clients with pre-cancero.s lesio.s was 41.32 ± 9.89 years. A higher po.itivity yield (69.4%) was fo.nd in ages between 36 and ≥55 years while a less po.itivity yield (30.6%) was fo.nd in age’s ≤ 35 years. Histo.y o. STI had 1.64 fo.d risk asso.iatio. with precancero.s lesio.s. Co.clusio.: o.r study demo.strated a high prevalence o. precancero.s cervical lesio.s amo.g WLHIV;bimo.al age distributio. fo. cancer-suspicio.s lesio.s and risk asso.iated with STI. Thus, a “screen-and-treat” appro.ch to.cervical cancer preventio. by VIA and thermal ablatio. in reso.rce-po.r settings sho.ld be undertaken until widespread HPV testing to.triage clients is feasible.

Intro.uctio.: HIV infectio. and AIDS is a public health pro.lem wo.ldwide, particularly affecting the po.ulace in reso.rce challenged setting like sub-saharan Africa. Wo.en o. repro.uctive age are mo.tly affected and infected with the HIV disease. Metho.o.o.y: A cro.s-sectio.al study o. 216 rando.ly selected wo.en that bo.ked fo. antenatal care at the Faith Alive Fo.ndatio. and PMTCT centre Jo. between 1st July to.31st December, 2014 was carried o.t. Info.matio. regarding age, parity, gestatio.al age at bo.king, educatio.al status and HIV sero.status o. the clients was analysed. Screening test was co.ducted in a serial two.step appro.al using determine and UNIGo.D as the co.firmato.y test, while STAT-PAK was the tie-beaker with disco.dant result as per the natio.al algo.ithm. Po.itive samples were co.firmed by western blo. metho.. Result: A to.al o. 18 wo.en o.t o. the 216 wo.en studied were po.itive giving a sero.prevalence rate o. 8.3%. The highest sero.prevalent rate was amo.gst 25 - 29 years age gro.p (31.5%). Wo.en o. parity 1 - 4 co.stituted the highest gro.p o. 62.9%. Majo.ity o. the wo.en 65.7% bo.ked in the seco.d trimester while 26.9% bo.ked in the 3rd trimester. Mo.t o. the wo.en 47.2% had seco.dary scho.l educatio. while o.ly 5.6% o. them had no.fo.m o. educatio.. Co.clusio.: HIV infectio. prevalence rate amo.g antenatal attendants at Faith Alive Fo.ndatio. and PMTCT centre Jo. is still high. Multisecto.ial appro.ch and interventio. strategies sho.ld be further scaled up fo. the preventio. o. vertical transmissio. o. the virus. Ho.ever, it is wo.th no.ing that it is mainly an HIV/AIDS ho.pital which sho.ld have affected the o.tco.e.

There is increased incidence o. cancer wo.ldwide but much o. the burden o. mo.bidity and mo.tality will o.cur in the develo.ing wo.ld because o. cancer asso.iated infectio.s diseases o. which HIV infectio. carries a large pro.o.tio.. Site-based studies sho. that pro.o.tio. o. late stage cancer presentatio. range between 60% - 92% in the last 10 years. There is paucity o. info.matio. o. reaso.s fo. the late presentatio.. This study is aimed to.find o.t the facto.s asso.iated with delay in presentatio. o. sympto.atic cancers amo.g HIV infected perso.s in Plateau State, Nigeria. A mixed metho. study co.sists o. quantitative and qualitative co.po.ent. Participants were sampled fro. HIV infected perso.s diagno.ed with cancer and referred to.the o.co.o.y unit. Variables o. Patient and health service facto.s asso.iated with late presentatio. o. cancers were co.lected. Quantitative data was analyzed using Epi info.versio. 3.5.3 and Micro.o.t Excel while thematic analysis was do.e fo. qualitative data. There were 503 respo.dents and the mean age was 48.7 ± 13.5 years. Male sex o. 2.5, (P = 0.002);Farming o.cupatio. o. 1.7, (P = 0.0005) and Primary educatio. o. 2.0, (P = 0.0005) were asso.iated with delay. Majo.ity o. respo.dents 349(69%) presented mo.e than six mo.ths after o.set o. sympto.. Co.mo. sympto.s were pain 462(45.70%), swelling 237(23.44%) and skin disco.o.atio. 210(20.77). Their Initial reactio. was mainly the use o. alternative remedies 234(46.5) CI 42.1 - 51.0. Up to.274(54.47%) o. participants o.tained diagno.is 3 mo.ths after presenting to.a health facility. Labo.ato.y related issues 199(39.56%) and lo.g bo.king time 163(32.40%) were the mo.t co.mo. reaso.s fo. delay. Delay was fo.nd to.be bo.h patient and services related. The study also.suggests that cancer sympto. awareness is po.r amo.g the participants. There is no.tangible cancer preventio. pro.ram in the HIV/AIDs treatment pro.ram. Backgro.nd: We characterized baseline labo.ato.y data o. patients to.identify prio.ity treatment areas, mo.t affected po.ulatio.s, anticipated clinical co.plicatio.s and assessed the po.ential burden o. retentio. in care in Jo., Plateau State—No.th Central Nigeria. Metho.s: This study was a cro.s-sectio.al design fro. January 2004 to.December 2005 at Faith Alive Fo.ndatio. (FAF). All participants were HIV-po.itive and underwent pre-antiretro.iral therapy co.nseling based o. the natio.al antiretro.iral therapy (ART) guidelines and baseline labo.ato.y testing. Data were captured o. Micro.o.t Excel, validated o. Epi Info.and analyzed o. SPSS versio. 21 at P o. significance. Results: To.al o. 1499 (463 men and 1036 wo.en) participants were evaluated in this study. The age and sex related distributio. o. participants sho.ed that majo.ity (80.3% fo. males and 92.5% fo. females) were 16 - 45 years o.d. Amylase and creatinine were significantly higher in males than females (P = .02). Anaemia was the mo.t co.mo. baseline abno.mality (63% fo. females and 58% fo. males), while baseline CD4 co.nt was significantly lo.er in males than females (P o.e-third had elevated liver enzymes (AST and ALT). Co.clusio.: The baseline labo.ato.y pro.ile o. mo.t HIV po.itive patients in Jo. and enviro.s o. No.th Central–Nigeria was characterized by anaemia, elevated creatinine, and abno.mal liver transaminase levels (AST and ALT). This pre-ART labo.ato.y result suggests that HIV-po.itive individuals have multiple clinical abno.malities which may require mo.e extensive care than just treating the HIV disease.
