The application of therapeutic herbs in treatment of common infections and diseases has gained popularity in developing nations due to its cost-effectiveness and purported lower side effects compared to synthetic *** zanthoxyloides Lam also known as Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides,is an indigenous plant used widely as chewing stick for tooth cleaning in West *** root-bark macerations,decoctions or infusions are the most valuable organs widely taken to treat malaria and diabetes by local populations,traditional healers and local pharmaceutical *** alternative,more efficient,safer,and less expensive anti-diabetic natural products from plants has received great attention,hence this research delved into the inhibitory effects of the ethyl acetate fraction of *** root-bark(EAFFZRB)on in-vitroα-amylase andα-glucosidase *** biochemical methods were used to extract and assess the in-vitro antioxidant such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazl(DPPH),total antioxidant capacity(TAC)and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power(FRAP).The sample was combined at different concentrations(10,20,40,80,160,320,and 640μl/dl).Theα-amylase,andα-glucosidase activities of EAFFZRB sample was combined at different concentrations(0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8 and 1.0 mg/mL).The phyto-constituents in EAFFZRB were identified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS)*** plant fraction showed a significant(P<0.05)increase in the inhibition ofα-amylase IC50=0.726 andα-glucosidase IC50=0.877 at varying concentrations,comparable to the reference drug Acarbose IC50=0.728 and IC50=0.852 *** demonstrated significant(P<0.05)inhibition at different concentrations on DPPH(66.55±1.57),TAC(0.47±0.17)and FRAP(3.64±0.14),similar to the effect of the standard ascorbic *** GC-MS analysis of EAFFZRB revealed a total of 12 volatile organic compounds such as;Phenol-3-methoxy-2,5,6-trimethyl,2-Hydroxy-5-nitrobenzylbromide,2,6-Dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)py

The present study assessed the proximate composition,in vitro antioxidant activity and GC-MS analyses of fermented Pentaclethra macrophylla seeds extract(FPMSE).The in vitro antioxidant activity was assessed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazl(DPPH)while Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry(GC-MS)technique was used to identify the volatile compounds in *** revealed a dose dependent percentage inhibition of the extract on DPPH *** composition of FPMSE constitutes respectively;ash(0.33±0.12%),protein(2.19±0.08%),fats and oil(80.60±0.00%),carbohydrate(16.88±0.00%)while moisture and fibre were not ***,the pulverised sample constitute respectively;ash(1.27±0.58%),protein(10.51±0.60%),moisture(8.27±0.12%),fats and oil(32.33±0.12%),fibre(7.27±0.12%)and carbohydrate(40.35±0.00%).GC-MS analyses revealed fourteen(14)fatty acids including Octadecanoic acid(1.95%),Benzyloxymethylimine(43.89%),2-Allylpent-4-enoic acid benzyl ester(26.25%),Hexadecanoic acid,methyl ester(1.09%),Oleic Acid(0.25%),9,12-Octadecadienoic acid,methyl ester(Omega-6-fatty acid)(1.52%).The bioactive compounds identified in FPMSE could contribute to the pharmacological properties of *** seeds and hence,could be of considerable interest for the development of new drugs.
