Objective. Recurrent ovarian carcinoma is considered an incurable dis ease and second-line chemotherapy is administered for extension of survival and palliati on. The impact of continued antineoplastic treatment in patients with stable dis ease without a demonstrable response is uncertain. The aim of this analysis was to assess the value of a stabilization of the tumor size in second-line chemoth erapy as an indicator of survival. Methods. Retrospective, single-institution s tudy of 487 consecutive patients with primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma. incl usion criteria: (1) FiGO stage iC-iV epithelial ovarian carcinoma; (2) first-l ine chemotherapy with Paclitaxel and a Platinum-compound; (3) refractory, persi stent, or recurrent disease diagnosed by imaging methods; and (4) intravenous se cond-line chemotherapy with single Topotecan or Paclitaxel-Carboplatin. Univar iate and multivariate analyses of survival with theWorld Health Organization (WH O) tumor response parameter included as a time-dependent variable were performe d. Results. The response rates were (N = 100): complete response (CR) 27%, part ial response (PR) 14%, stable disease (SD) 41%and progressive disease (PD) 18 %. in a multivariate Cox regression analysis of survival, SD was found to be an independent prognostic factor for survival and the death hazard ratio was 0.37 (SD versus PD; 95%Ci: 0.16-0.86; P = 0.02). There was no statistically signifi cant difference in survival between patients with PR and SD (P = 0.09). Conclusi on. in secondline chemotherapy of ovarian cancer,patients demonstrating SD have a survival benefit compared to patients with PD measured by theWHO tumor respons e criteria.

The use of K2NbF7 as a probe solute for the cyclic voltammetric determination of oxide in FLiNAK melts was studied and demonstrated. This method is based on a complex reaction and the peak current density of NbF72- reduction. The reaction constant was determined to be very large at 973 K. A cyclic voltammetric standard addition experiment was also employed to determine the amount of oxide in FLNAK melt. The oxide content of FLiNAK melts is equal to the amount of Nb(V) added minus the amount of NbF72- which is obtained from the voltammogram.

Background: Neuronal dysfunction and degeneration linked to α-synuclein (αS) pathology is thought to be responsible for the progressive nature of Parkinson’s disease and related dementia with Lewy bodies. Studies have indicated bidirectional pathological relationships between αS pathology and tau abnormalities. We recently showed that A53T mutant human αS (HuαS) can cause post-synaptic and cognitive deficits that require microtubule-associated protein tau expression. However, the role of tau in the development of αS pathology and subsequent neuronal dysfunction has been controversial. Herein, we set out to determine the role of tau in the onset and progression of αS pathology (α-synucleinopathy) using a transgenic mouse model of α-synucleinopathy lacking mouse tau expression. Methods: Transgenic mice expressing A53T mutant HuαS (TgA53T) were crossed with mTau−/− mice to generate TgA53T/mTau−/−. To achieve more uniform induction of α-synucleinopathy in mice, we used intramuscular i.j.ctions of αS preformed fibrils (PFF) in non-transgenic (nTg), TgA53T, TgA53T/mTau−/−, and mTau−/− mice. Motor behavior was analyzed at 70 days post inoculation (dpi) of PFF and tissues for biochemical and neuropathological analysis were collected at 40 dpi, 70 dpi, and end stage. Results: Loss of tau expression significantly delayed the onset of motor deficits in the TgA53T model and the progression of α-synucleinopathy disease, as evidenced by a significant reduction in histopathological and behavioral markers of neurodegeneration and disease, and a significant improvement in survival. in vitro application of PFF to primary mouse hippocampal neurons demonstrated no changes in PFF uptake and processing or pS129 αS aggregation as a function of tau expression. However, PFF-induced neurotoxicity, including morphological deficits in nTg neurons, was prevented with tau removal. The purpose of this research is to apply the Einstein’s principle of relativity to solve the mind-brain problem and to generate all Standard Model Particle masses. Our approach is somewhat analogous to the dualistic idea of Descartes. instead of a pineal gland, wherein the brain interacts with the mind, we propose during the developmental stages of the human fetus the tiny brain begins to communicate with the smallest structures of spacetime. This interaction occurs as the fetus brain begins to emit thermodynamic low heat energies, which are then absorbed into the smallest structures of spacetime saturating the interstices of the fetus brain. Think of these heat-energies like Morse code instructions. Since these kinds of interaction involve spacetime, with brain matter-energy, and that our main guiding principle is that of relativity, our research resulted in a general relativistic wave equation, wherein the n-valued heat-energies emitted by the brain-field-matrix ite-space:normal;">Bite-space:normal;">μv, is identified as the energy momentum tensor of general relativity.
