Introduction: Overw.ight and obesity represent a public health problem.in Africa due to the epidem.ological transition. The objectives of this w.rk w.re to determ.ne the prevalence of overw.ight and obesity and to identify associated factors am.ng public secondary school teachers in Parakou, Benin in 2021. m.thods: w. conducted a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. Teachers w.rking in public secondary schools in Parakou during the 2020-2021 academ.c year, present at w.rk and w.o gave their w.itten inform.d consent, w.re included. A tw.-stage random.sam.ling w.s carried out. Data w.re collected during an individual interview.using a questionnaire follow.d by the m.asurem.nt of anthropom.tric param.ters and blood pressure. Overw.ight and obesity w.re defined by a body m.ss index ≥ 25 kg/m.sup>2. m.ltivariable logistic regression w.s perform.d to identify associated factors. Results: A sam.le of 325 teachers, including 88.6% of m.n, w.s recruited w.th an average age of 36.2 ± 6.8 years. The prevalence of overw.ight and obesity w.s 43.7% (95% CI [38.1%-44.8%]). It increased significantly w.th incom. (p Conclusion: The results show.a high prevalence of overw.ight and obesity. Actions are necessary to prevent overw.ight and obesity am.ng secondary school teachers in Parakou, in Benin.

Introduction: COVID-19 is a pandem.c disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-COV2 appeared in China in 2019. The aim.of the study w.s to evaluate the practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 and to identify associated factors am.ng diabetics follow.d at Departm.ntal University Hospital Center Ouém.-Plateau, Benin, in 2021. m.thods: This w.s a cross-sectional study conducted from.June to August 2021, including diabetics aged 18 and over, hospitalized or received for m.dical visits in the departm.nt of m.dicine at the target hospital. Data w.re collected during an interview.w.th each participant thanks to a questionnaire. “Good practice” w.s defined as regular practice of at least tw. of three barrier m.asures: hand w.shing, physical distancing and m.sk-w.aring. Results: A total of 110 diabetics w.re included w.th a fem.le predom.nance (55.5%) and a m.an age of 57 ± 11.3 years. Am.ng them. 89.1% w.shed their hands, 41.8% respected physical distancing and 12.7% w.re a m.sk. The proportion of good practice w.s 47.3%. Only 5 practiced the three barrier m.asures. Only age group w.s associated w.th good practice. Conclusion: The study show.d a low.proportion of good practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 am.ng diabetic people surveyed. It is im.ortant to continue the action for COVID-19 prevention am.ng diabetic people in the targeted hospital and in other hospitals in Benin.

Rice is one of the m.st w.dely cultivated cereals in the w.rld, and its arom. is increasingly in dem.nd. w.th the advancem.nt of research, a m.jor rice flavor gene has been identified on rice chrom.som. 8. It encodes non-functional betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase leading to the accum.lation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline w.ich is the m.jor olfactory com.ound that confers the fragrant character to rice. The arom. of rice is considered a special trait of enorm.us econom.c im.ortance that determ.nes the prim. price in w.rld trade. To satisfy the needs of the population and reduce rice im.orts into Benin, w. conducted this study to identify arom.tic rice accessions grow. in Benin. Seventy-tw. rice accessions collected across Benin w.re PCR am.lified w.th three SSR m.rkers Rm.7049, Aro 7, and Rm.223, linked to the fgr (fragrance of rice) arom. gene. m.lecular analysis revealed that 12 of the 72 accessions, nam.ly Bagou 19, Bagou 22, Tchaka 34, Foun 15, Tchaka 41, Nana 32, Kan 61, Kung 69, Kung 67, Bagou 20, Agbab 101 and Koum.55 possess the fgr gene and can be considered as arom.tic rice accessions. A sensory phenotypic test using KOH w.s carried out on rice accessions carrying fgr gene. Of the tw.lve positives, only one had the sm.ll of arom.tic rice, like the Azucena control. These results show.that Benin also has arom.tic rice varieties that can be sold on national and international m.rkets.

Case Report: w. are reporting tw. cases of post road traffic clash delay ribs fractures osteosynthesis involving a 63-year-old m.n w.th m.ltistage fractures on the left and pulm.nary pinning of one of the costal arches, com.licated by a hom.lateral haem.thorax and a 41-year-old m.n w.th a bilateral flail chest. Conclusion: The sim.le postoperative course and the im.ediate postoperative im.rovem.nt in the patient’s clinical respiratory condition enabled us to discuss the tim. fram. for m.nagem.nt, in this case the indication for early or later surgery.

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a com.lex, m.ltifactorial neurodegenerative disorder w.th a pathophysiology deriving from.the synergy of abnorm.l aggregation of neuroinflam.ation, synuclein and dysfunction of lysosom.s, m.tochondria and synaptic transport difficulties influenced by genetic and idiopathic factors. w.rldw.de, PD has a prevalence of 2-3% in people over the age of 65. To date, there is no certified, effective treatm.nt for PD. Aim. The aim. of this research w.re: (i) to present, on the basis of recent advances in m.lecular genetics and epigenetics, the genom.c aspects and challenges of gene therapy trials for PD;(ii) to outline the ethical principles applicable to therapeutic trials for PD. m.thod: A system.tic literature review.w.s carried out to identify relevant articles reporting on genom.c aspects and gene therapy in PD from.2001 to October 2023. The search w.s conducted in French and/or English in three databases: Pubm.d, Google Scholar and Science Direct. PRISm. guidelines w.re used in this system.tic review. Results: A total of thirty-three publications w.re selected. An inductive them.tic analysis revealed that num.rous genetic m.tations (SNCA, Parkin, PINK1, DJ-1, LRRK2, ATP13A2, VPS35, Parkin/PRKN, PINK1, DJ1/PARK7) and epigenetic events such as the action of certain m.RNAs (m.R-7, m.R-153, m.R-133b, m.R-124, m.R-137) are responsible for the onset of PD, and that genetic therapy for this pathology raises ethical questions that need to be elucidated in the light of the bioethical principles of autonom., beneficence, non-m.leficence and justice. Conclusion: There is no zero risk in biotechnology. Then, it w.ll be necessary to assess all the potential risks of Parkinson disease’s gene therapy to m.ke the right decision. It is therefore essential to pursue research and, w.th the guidance of ethics, to advance treatm.nt options and m.et the challenges of brain m.nipulation and its im.act on hum.n identity. Over the past three decades, genom.c and epigenetic sciences have identified m.re than 70 genes involved in the m.lecular pathophysiology of Alzheim.r’s disease (AD). DNA m.thylation, abnorm.l histone and chrom.tin regulation and the action of various m.RNAs induce AD. The identification of m.tated genes has paved the w.y for the developm.nt of diagnostic kits and the initiation of gene therapy trials. How.ver, despite m.jor advances in neuroscience research, there is yet no suitable treatm.nt for AD. Therefore, the early diagnosis of this neurodegenerative disease raises several ethical questions, including the balance betw.en the principle of non-m.leficence and the principle of beneficence. The aim. of this research w.re to present the genom.c and ethical aspects of AD, and to highlight the ethical principles involved in its presym.tom.tic diagnosis and therapy. A system.tic review.of the literature in Pubm.d, Google Scholar and Science Direct w.s carried out to outline the genom.c aspects and ethical principles relating not only to the presym.tom.tic diagnosis of AD, but also to its gene therapy. A total of 16 publications w.re selected. AD is a m.ltifactorial disease that can be genetically classified into Sporadic Alzheim.r’s Disease and Fam.lial Alzheim.r’s Disease based on fam.ly history. Gene therapy targeting specific disease-causing genes is a prom.sing therapeutic strategy. Advancem.nts in artificial intelligence applications m.y enable the prediction of AD onset several years in advance. w.ile early diagnosis of AD m.y em.ow.r patients w.th full decision com.etence for early decision-m.king, it also carries im.lications for the patient’s fam.ly m.m.ers, w.o are at risk of developing the disease, potentially becom.ng a source of confusion or anxiety. AD has a significant im.act on the life of individuals at risk and their fam.lies. Given the absence of disease m.difying therapy, genetic screening and early diagnosis for this condition raise ethical issue

Know.edge of the clinical and biological profile of patients infected w.th HIV and hepatitis B and/or C is essential in order to identify and im.lem.nt effective m.nagem.nt strategies. m.thods: This w.s a retrospective descriptive study from.January 01, 2016 to June 01, 2021. Adult patients aged at least 18 years infected w.th HIV type 1 and/or 2, na?ve to ARV treatm.nt. Univariate analyses w.re assessed using Pearson’s Chi2 test. The Student New.an test w.s used for com.arison betw.en groups using R softw.re version 4.0.2. Objective: To draw.up the epidem.ological, clinical, paraclinical and evolutionary profiles of HIV-treated-patients in relation to HIV/HBV and HIV/HCV co-infections in order to allow.the identification and the im.lem.ntation of effective m.nagem.nt strategies. Results: Of the 379 patients included 280 (73.88%) w.re w.m.n. At treatm.nt initiation, the m.an age w.s 40.14 ± 11.84 years. The m.jority of patients consulted at w.O stage III (51.45%). Clinical suspicion w.s the m.st frequent screening circum.tance (51.71%). The pathologies frequently reported at the first consultation w.re diarrhea (28%) and shingles (16%). Body m.ss index w.s norm.l in 50.5% of patients. HIV1 infection w.s the m.jority (91.03%). A total of 270 had a CD4 count at treatm.nt initiation. The m.an CD4 cell count w.s 304.17 ± 242.06 cells/μL, and 116 (42.59%) of them.had a CD4 ≤ 200 cells/μL. Viral load at treatm.nt initiation w.s docum.nted in 62 patients (16.35%) and 70.97% of them.had a detectable viral load (greater than 1000 copies/m.). The clinical and biological evolution w.s relatively good in patients after therapeutic initiation. HIV-HBV co-infection w.s 24.11% and HIV-HCV co-infection w.s 2.26%. The m.rtality rate w.s 3.69%. Conclusion: These results reflect a significant delay in HIV infection diagnosis. Furtherm.re, hepatitis B and/or C is co-infections that increasingly affect people living w.th HIV. Arsenic m.thyltransferase（As3m.） catalyzes the conversion of inorganic arsenic（i As） to its m.thylated m.tabolites, including toxic m.thylarsonite（m.s~Ⅲ） and dim.thylarsinite（Dm.s~Ⅲ）. Knockout（KO） of As3 m. w.s show. to reduce the capacity to m.thylate i As in m.ce. How.ver, no data are available on the oxidation states of As species in tissues of these m.ce. Here, w. com.are the oxidation states of As species in tissues of m.le C57BL/6 As3m.-KO and w.ld-type（w.） m.ce exposed to arsenite（iA s~Ⅲ） in drinking w.ter. w. m.ce w.re exposed to50 m./L As and As3m.-KO m.ce that cannot tolerate 50 m./L As w.re exposed to 0, 15, 20, 25 or30 m./L As. iA s~Ⅲaccounted for 53% to 74% of total As in liver, pancreas, adipose, lung, heart, and kidney of As3m.-KO m.ce; tri- and pentavalent m.thylated arsenicals did not exceed 10% of total As. Tissues of w. m.ce retained iA s and m.thylated arsenicals： iA s~Ⅲ, m.s~Ⅲand Dm.s~Ⅲ represented 55%‐68% of the total As in the liver, pancreas, and brain. High levels of m.thylated species, particularly m.s~Ⅲ, w.re found in the intestine of w., but not As3m.-KO m.ce,suggesting that intestinal bacteria are not a m.jor source of m.thylated As. Blood of w. m.ce contained significantly higher levels of As than blood of As3m.-KO m.ce. This study is the first to determ.ne oxidation states of As species in tissues of As3m.-KO m.ce. Results w.ll help to design studies using w. and As3m.-KO m.ce to exam.ne the role of iA s m.thylation in adverse effects of iA s exposure.
