CONSPECTUS:Understanding the evolutionary journey of monoelemental black phosphorus(BP)to BP-based composites plays a crucial role in expanding and advancing the development of BP in biological *** of its exceptional unique structure and superior biological properties,BP has been extensively developed into various nanomaterials for different biological ***,the performance of BP alone cannot completely meet some specific requirements,and one possible route to harnessing its unique properties for different biological applications is to incorporate BP with a specific material to obtain an on-demand composite *** manufacturing of such high-performance composites requires not only a full understanding of the structure and features of BP so that it could be perfectly incorporated with other materials or homogeneously distributed into various matrixes but also a clear biological effect of BP in different biological ***,we summarize our recent work on BP-based high-performance composites for different biological applications,aiming to uncover(i)the evolutionary journey of BP from monoelemental materials to composite materials in biological applications and(ii)the interaction between BP and biological *** the emergence of BP,BP-based materials have shown a prominent potential for technological applications as well as plenty of unexplored fundamental *** particular,with the unlimited potential of BP in biological fields,it is desirable to take advantage of the useful performance of BP in composites through the combination of various functional materials for broadening its ***,how to design and synthesize a BP-based composite with some specific performance remains a huge challenge due to the lack of an in-depth understanding of the interaction among BP,functional adjuvants,and physiological ***-based nanosheets can selectively kill tumor cells via a reactive oxygen species

Fatal systemic emphysematous infection caused by klebsiella pneumoniae:A case report

BACkGROUND Systemic emphysematous infection caused by klebsiella pneumoniae(***)is a rare but severe infection which can be lethal if the diagnosis is *** SUMMARY We report a rare case of systemic emphysematous infection via hematogenous dissemination from a liver abscess caused by ***,complicated by multiple organ dysfunction syndrome,septic shock,bacteremia,emphysematous cystitis,prostate and left seminal vesicle abscesses in a diabetic *** patient simultaneously presented with spontaneous pneumoperitoneum secondary to rupture of the emphysematous liver *** condition after admission deteriorated rapidly and he died within a short *** disease is a great challenge for the clinician as *** can cause multifocal emphysematous infections and fulminant septic *** following spontaneous rupture of the liver abscess can result in intra-abdominal sepsis that further increases mortality ***,appropriate site-specific intervention and adequate drainage of numerous emphysematous liver lesions are *** Early diagnosis followed by efficient antibiotic therapy and surgical management are essential for systemic emphysematous infection.

Emerging vaccine nanotechnology: From defense against infection to sniping cancer

Looking retrospectively at the development of humanity, vaccination is an unprecedented medical landmark that saves lives by harnessing the human immune system. During the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic, vaccination is still the most effective defense modality. The successful clinical application of the lipid nanoparticle-based Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna mRna COVID-19 vaccines highlights promising future of nanotechnology in vaccine development. Compared with conventional vaccines, nanovaccines are supposed to have advantages in lymph node accumulation,antigen assembly, and antigen presentation;they also have, unique pathogen biomimicry properties because of well-organized combination of multiple immune factors. Beyond infectious diseases, vaccine nanotechnology also exhibits considerable potential for cancer treatment. The ultimate goal of cancer vaccines is to fully mobilize the potency of the immune system as a living therapeutic to recognize tumor antigens and eliminate tumor cells, and nanotechnologies have the requisite properties to realize this *** this review, we summarize the recent advances in vaccine nanotechnology from infectious disease prevention to cancer immunotherapy and highlight the different types of materials, mechanisms, administration methods, as well as future perspectives.

HMGB1 from Astrocytes Promotes EAE by Influencing the Immune Cell Infiltration-Associated Functions of BMECs in Mice

High mobility group box 1(HMGB1)has been reported to play an important role in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE).Astrocytes are important components of neurovascular units and tightly appose the endothelial cells of microvessels by their perivascular endfeet and directly regulate the functions of the blood-brain *** express more HMGB1 during EAE while the exact roles of astrocytic HMGB1 in EAE have not been well ***,using conditional-knockout mice,we found that astrocytic HMGB1 depletion decreased morbidity,delayed the onset time,and reduced the disease score and demyelination of ***,there were fewer immune cells,especially pathogenic T cells infiltration in the central nervous system of astrocytic HMGB1 conditional-knockout EAE mice,accompanied by up-regulated expression of the tight-junction protein Claudin5 and down-regulated expression of the cell adhesion molecules ICAM1 and VCAM1 in *** vitro,HMGB1 released from astrocytes decreased Claudin5 while increased ICAM1 and VCAM1 expressed by brain microvascular endothelial cells(BMECs)through TLR4 or *** together,our results demonstrate that HMGB1 derived from astrocytes aggravates EAE by directly influencing the immune cell infiltration-associated functions of BMECs.

Investigation of Amoxicillin Use in Fever Clinic Patients:Standardized Application of Antibiotics is Still Challenging

Amoxicillin is widely used by the Chinese population and available in pharmacies without *** performed a retrospective study on patients with fever who took amoxicillin before going to the fever clinic of the Second Affiliated Hospital of nanchang University from March 1,2020 to March 31,*** the total of 9093 patients attending the fever clinic,446 patients had a history of taking amoxicillin,from which 100 cases were randomly selected to evaluate the therapeutic effects of non-prescribed amoxicillin by changes in clinical symptoms,counts of white blood cells,neutrophils,and lymphocytes,and levels of C-reactive protein(CRP).The control group consisted of 100 randomly selected patients for who it was verified that they did not take antibiotics before attending the fever *** study showed that there were no significant differences between the group of patients taking amoxicillin and the control group in terms of symptom improvement,white blood cell,neutrophil or lymphocyte counts,or the levels of ***,our study indicated that although non-prescribed amoxicillin is widely used among patients with fever,it does not provide significant beneficial therapeutic *** is still a long way to go to standardize the application of antibiotics and popularize knowledge on proper antibiotics use among the population.

The Arabidopsis NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex is required for chlorophyll biosynthesis and photosynthesis

Although two Enhancer of Polycomb-like proteins,EPL1 A and EPL1 B(EPL1 A/B),are known to be conserved and characteristic subunits of the Nu A4-type histone acetyltransferase complex in Arabidopsis thaliana,the biological function of EPL1 A/B and the mechanism by which EPL1 A/B function in the complex remain ***,we report that EPL1 A/B are required for the histone acetyltransferase activity of the Nu A4 complex on the nucleosomal histone H4 in vitro and for the enrichment of histone H4 k5 acetylation at thousands of protein-coding genes in *** results suggest that EPL1 A/B are required for linking the Nu A4 catalytic subunits HISTONE ACETYLTRANSFERASE OF THE MYST FAMILY 1(HAM1)and HAM2 with accessory subunits in the Nu A4 ***1 A/B function redundantly in regulating plant development especially in chlorophyll biosynthesis and *** EPL1 A/B-dependent transcription and H4 k5 Ac are enriched at genes involved in chlorophyll biosynthesis and *** also find that EAF6,another characteristic subunit of the Nu A4 complex,contributes to *** results suggest that the Arabidopsis Nu A4 complex components function as a whole to mediate histone acetylation and transcriptional activation specifically at light-responsive genes and are critical for photomorphogenesis.

The SAGA(Spt-Ada-Gcn5 acetyltransferase)complex is an evolutionarily conserved histone acetyltransferase complex that has a critical role in histone acetylation,gene expression,and various developmental processes in ***,little is known about the composition and function of the SAGA complex in *** this study,we found that the SAGA complex in Arabidopsis thaliana contains not only conserved subunits but also four plant-specific subunits:three functionally redundant paralogs,SCSI,SCS2A,and SCS2B(SCS1/2A/2B),and a TAF-like subunit,*** in SCS1/2A/2B lead to defective phenotypes similar to those caused by mutations in the genes encoding conserved SAGA subunits HAG1 and ADA2B,including delayed juvenile-to-adult phase transition,late flowering,and increased trichome ***,we demonstrated that SCS1/2A/2B are required for the function of the SAGA complex in histone acetylation,thereby promoting the transcription of development-related *** results together suggest that SCS1/2A/2B are core subunits of the SAGA complex in *** with SAGA complexes in other eukaryotes,the SAGA complexes in plants have evolved unique features that are necessary for normal growth and development.

Yolk-shell-structured （***.s）9S8 solid-solution powders：Synthesis and application as anode materials for na-ionbatteries

Multicomponent metal sulfide materials with a yolk–shell structure and a single phase were studied for the first time as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Yolk–shell-structured Fe–Ni–O powders with a molar ratio of iron and nickel components of 1/1 were prepared via one-pot spray pyrolysis. The prepared Fe–Ni–O powders were transformed into yolk–shell-structured (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 solid-solution powders via a sulfidation process. The initial discharge and charge capacities of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders at a current density of 1 A·g−1 were 601 and 504 mA·h·g−1, respectively. The discharge capacities of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders for the 2nd and 100th cycle were 530 and 527 mA·h·g−1, respectively, and their corresponding capacity retention measured from the 2nd cycle was 99%. The (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders had high initial discharge and charge capacities at a low current density of 0.1 A·g−1, and the reversible discharge capacity decreased slightly from 568 to 465 mA·h·g−1 as the current density increased from 0.1 to 5.0 A·g−1. The synergetic effect of the novel yolk–shell structure and the multicomponent sulfide composition of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders resulted in excellent sodium-ion storage performance.

Comparative Analysis of Four Stem Taper Models for Quercus glauca in Mount Halla,Jeju Island,South korea

This study was conducted to fit the diameter-height data of Quercusglaucain Jeju Island, South korea to the four commonly used stem taper equations andto evaluate the performance of the four stem taper models using four statistical criteria： Fit index （FI）, root mean square error （RMSE）, bias （）,and absolute mean difference （AMD）. Results showed that the kozak02stem taper equation provided the best FI（0.9847）, RMSE（1.5745）,（-0.0030 cm） and AMD （1.0990 cm） whileMax and Burkhart model had the poorest performance among the four stem taper models based on the four evaluation statistics （FI ： 0.9793,RMSE ： 1.8272, ： 0.3040 cm and AMD ： 1.3060 cm）. These stem taper equations can serve as a useful tool for forest managers in estimating the diameter outside bark at any given height, merchantable stem volumes and total stem volumesof the standing trees of Quercusglaucain theGotjawal forests located in Mount Halla, Jeju Island, South korea.
