The development of a nation is deeply related to its energy consumption.2D nanomaterials have become a spotlight for energy harvesting applications from the small-scale of low-power electronics to a large-scale for industry-level applications,such as self-powered sensor devices,environmental monitoring,and large-scale power *** from around the world are working to utilize their engrossing properties to overcome the challenges in material selection and fabrication technologies for compact energy scavenging devices to replace batteries and traditional power *** this review,the variety of techniques for scavenging energies from sustainable sources such as solar,air,waste heat,and surrounding mechanical forces are discussed that exploit the fascinating properties of 2D *** addition,practical applications of these fabricated power generating devices and their performance as an alternative to conventional power supplies are discussed with the future pertinence to solve the energy problems in various fields and applications.

Scale-invariant machine-learning model accelerates the discovery of quaternary chalcogenides with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity

We design an advanced machine-learning(ML)model based on crystal graph convolutional neural network that is insensitive to volumes(i.e.,scale)of the input crystal structures to discover novel quaternary chalcogenides,AMM′Q3(A/M/M'=alkali,alkaline earth,post-transition metals,lanthanides,and Q=chalcogens).These compounds are shown to possess ultralow lattice thermal conductivity(κ_(l)),a desired requirement for thermal-barrier coatings and *** screening the thermodynamic stability of~1 million compounds using the ML model iteratively and performing density-functional theory(DFT)calculations for a small fraction of compounds,we discover 99 compounds that are validated to be stable in *** several DFT-stable compounds,we calculate theirκl using Peierls–Boltzmann transport equation,which reveals ultralowκ_(l)(<2 Wm^(−1)K^(−1)at room temperature)due to their soft elasticity and strong phonon *** work demonstrates the high efficiency of scale-invariant ML model in predicting novel compounds and presents experimental-research opportunities with these new compounds.

High-fidelity replication of DNA,and its accurate segregation to daughter cells,is critical for maintaining genome stability and suppressing *** replication forks are stalled by many DNA lesions,activating checkpoint proteins that stabilize stalled *** forks may eventually collapse,producing a broken DNA *** restart is typically mediated by proteins initially identified by their roles in homologous recombination repair of DNA double-strand breaks(DSBs).In recent years,several proteins involved in DSB repair by non-homologous end joining(NHEJ)have been implicated in the replication stress response,including DNA-PKcs,Ku,DNA Ligase IV-XRCC4,Artemis,XLF and *** is currently unclear whether NHEJ proteins are involved in the replication stress response through indirect(signaling)roles,and/or direct roles involving DNA end *** complexity in the replication stress response centers around RPA,which undergoes significant post-translational modification after stress,and RAD52,a conserved HR protein whose role in DSB repair may have shifted to another protein in higher eukaryotes,such as BRCA2,but retained its role in fork *** cancer therapeutic strategies create DNA replication ***,it is imperative to gain a better under-standing of replication stress response proteins and pathways to improve cancer therapy.

Vulnerabilities and integrity of precise point positioning for intelligent transport systems:overview and analysis

The implementation of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technology is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic efficiency. One of the key components of ITS is precise vehicle positioning. Positioning with decimetre to sub-metre accuracy is a fundamental capability for self-driving, and other automated applications. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is an attractive positioning approach for ITS due to its relatively low-cost and flexibility. However, GNSS PPP is vulnerable to several effects, especially those caused by the challenging urban environments, where the ITS technology is most likely needed. To meet the high integrity requirements of ITS applications, it is necessary to carefully analyse potential faults and failures of PPP and to study relevant integrity monitoring methods. In this paper an overview of vulnerabilities of GNSS PPP is presented to identify the faults that need to be monitored when developing PPP integrity monitoring methods. These vulnerabilities are categorised into different groups according to their impact and error sources to assist integrity fault analysis, which is demonstrated with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methods. The main vulnerabilities are discussed in detail, along with their causes, characteristics, impact on users, and related mitigation methods. In addition, research on integrity monitoring methods used for accounting for the threats and faults in PPP for ITS applications is briefly reviewed. Both system-level (network-end) and user-level (user-end) integrity monitoring approaches for PPP are briefly discussed, focusing on their development and the challenges in urban scenarios. Some open issues, on which further efforts should focus, are also identified.

DESIGNING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND INFRASTRUCTURE SUSTAINABILITY: ONTARIO CASE STUDIES FOR RETROFITS AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS

The Low Impact Development (LID) approach has been implemented worldwide for managing stormwater quantity and quality within the context of land development, re-development, and retrofits within an existing development site. Since the inception of the concept in the 1990s, the application of LID has covered different land uses, spatial scales, and environmental objectives, leading to an expanded vision for applying and testing the LID approach. Recently, holistic methodologies and frameworks have linked land planning to key ecological landscapes larger than the previous site scale practice. This new emerging paradigm considers the watershed, subwatershed, and neighbourhood, in addition to the site scale, and consequently, recommends a landscape-based LID and broader Green Infrastructure (GI) solutions (Benedict and McMahon, 2002;Tzoulas et al, 2007;NRDC, 2011). As part of the holistic understanding of land planning and environmental features and functions within the intended spatial scale, LID and GI measures have been designed and constructed as retrofit measures (i.e., measures implemented within existing development) and as measures implemented within new development areas. Under this new paradigm, the land planning context is linked to environmental objectives to provide end points for environmental conservation and restoration within an ecological landscape such as watersheds, subwatersheds, and stream corridors. This paper presents three case studies for the design and construction of LID and GI measures within different land use contexts and for providing multiple environmental objectives.
