Qualitative Analyses of Correlations between Strong Ground Motions of the Three Large Earthquakes and Landslide Distributions

In this work,the correlations between spatial distributions of landslide point density(LPD)and strong ground motions of the three strong earthquakes are qualitatively investigated.Meanwhile the qualitative relationship between the distribution of LPD and the fault rupture process is also characterized.Three strong events are the Lushan,Wenchuan,and Jiuzhaigou earthquakes.In order to reconstruct the near filed strong ground motions and the fault processes of these earthquakes,the broadband ground simulation method of University of California Santa Barbara(UCSB)and the simplified crustal layer structures are applied.To show the rationality of the UCSB method,the fault slip distributions of the three earthquakes reconstructed by the kinematic rupture generator model in the UCSB method are compared with those by inversed.Furthermore,the validation of the UCSB method for the three earthquakes is also carried according to the validation exercise of the Southern California Earthquake Center(SCEC)Broadband Platform(BBP).Lastly,the fields of peak ground acceleration(PGA)and peak ground velocity(PGV)in three mutually perpendicular directions of the three earthquakes are achieved.Generally,the landslide distribution length of large LPD values along the fault strike is less than the fault strike length.Therefore,the slip modes of earthquake faults affect the distributions of landslides.For the strike slip earthquakes,the distributions of large LPD values relate well to PGA and PGV components of the parallel and normal to the fault strike.For the reverse slip earthquakes,distributions of LPD relate to ground motion components in all directions.Moreover,distributions of landslides in near fields of earthquakes are significantly affected by the focus parameters and fault scales.

High performance Zn-I_(2)battery with acetonitrile electrolyte working at low temperature

Large scale applications of metal-iodine batteries working at sub-zero degree have been challenged by the limited capacity and performance degradation.Herein,we firstly propose a Zn-I_(2)battery working at low temperature with a carbon composite material/iodine(CCM-I_(2))cathode,a Zn anode and an environmentally tolerable Zn(ClO4)2-ACN electrolyte.The CCM framework with hierarchical porous structure endows a powerful iodine-anchoring to overcome undesirable dissolution of iodine in organic electrolyte,and the Zn(ClO4)2-ACN electrolyte with low freezing point and high ionic conductivity enhances the low temperature performance.The synergies enable an efficiently reversible conversion of Zn-I_(2)battery even at-40℃.Therefore,the resultant Zn-I_(2)battery delivers a high specific capacity of 200 mAh·g^(-1),which is fairly approximate to the theoretical capacity of I_(2)(211 mAh·g^(-1))and a superior cycling stability with minimal capacity fading of 0.00043%per cycle over 7,000 times under 2C at-20℃.Furthermore,even at-40℃,this Zn-I_(2)battery still exhibits a good capacity retention of 68.7%compared to the capacity at 25℃ and a rapid capacity-recover ability with elevating temperature change.Our results distinctly indicate this Zn-I_(2)battery can be 1competent for the practical application under low temperature operation.

近年来,随着介入肺脏病学整体的快速发展,新的仪器设备和新的理念不断更新,同时肺部结节等检出率增高带来患者需求的增加,共同推动了经支气管镜诊断和治疗技术的不断进步。特别是超细支气管镜、径向探针支气管超声(RP‑EBUS)和导航支气管镜,包括虚拟导航支气管镜(VNB)和电磁导航支气管镜(ENB)、机器人辅助支气管镜(RAB),以及诊断弥漫性肺疾病的冷冻活检在临床实践中显得尤为突出和重要。为此,本文通过2021年发表的文献梳理,对支气管镜介入诊断技术的进展和应用领域的更新进行回顾。

Elusive workers are more likely to differentiate into replacement reproductives than aggressive workers in a lower termite

One of the most intriguing questions in eusocial insects is to understand how the overt reproductive conflict in the colony appears limited when queens or kings are senescent or lost because the morphologically similar individuals in the colony are reproductively totipotent.Whether there are some individuals who preferentially differentiate into replacement reproductives or not has received little attention.The consistent individual behavioral differences(also termed“animal personality”)of individuals from the colony can shape cunningly their task and consequently affect the colony fitness but have been rarely investigated in eusocial insects.Here,we used the termite Reticulitermes labralis to investigate if variations in individual personalities(elusiveness and aggressiveness)may predict which individuals will perform reproductive differentiation within colonies.We observed that when we separately reared elusive and aggressive workers,elusive workers differentiate into reproductives significantly earlier than aggressive workers.When we reared them together in the proportions 12:3,10:5,and 8:7(aggressive workers:elusive workers),the first reproductives mostly differentiated from the elusive workers,and the reproductives differentiated from the elusive workers significantly earlier than from aggressive workers.Furthermore,we found that the number of workers participating in reproductive differentiation was significantly lower in the groups of both types of workers than in groups containing only elusive workers.Our results demonstrate that the elusiveness trait was a strong predictor of workers’differentiation into replacement reproductives in R.labralis.Moreover,our results suggest that individual personalities within the insect society could play a key role in resolving the overt reproductive conflict.

A sustainable aqueous Zn-I2 battery

Rechargeable metal-iodine batteries are an emerging attractive electrochemical energy storage technology that combines metallic anodes with halogen cathodes. Such batteries using aqueous electrolytes represent a viable solution for the safety and cost issues associated with organic electrolytes. A hybrid-electrolyte battery architecture has been adopted in a lithium-iodine battery using a solid ceramic membrane that protects the metallic anode from contacting the aqueous electrolyte. Here we demonstrate an eco-friendly, low-cost zinc-iodine battery with an aqueous electrolyte, wherein active I2 is confined in a nanoporous carbon cloth substrate. The electrochemical reaction is confined in the nanopores as a single conversion reaction, thus avoiding the production of I3- intermediates. The cathode architecture fully utilizes the active I2, showing a capacity of 255 mAh·g^-1 and low capacity cycling fading. The battery provides an energy density of -151 Wh·kg^-1 and exhibits an ultrastable cycle life of more than 1,500 cycles.

Oil droplet movement and micro-flow characteristics during interaction process between gas bubble and oil droplet in flotation

Flotation is an efficient pre-treatment technology for oily water.In this work,the interaction process between the moving oil droplet and the gas bubble was studied by high-speed camera and Bassset-Boussinesq-Oseen(BBO)theoretical model,and the experimental and simulation results of the oil droplet trajectory were compared.Moreover,the micro-particle image velocimetry system was utilized to observe the flow inside and outside of the moving oil droplet.The results show that the BBO model with the mobile bubble’s surface can reflect the velocity change trend of the oil droplet during the interaction process between the moving oil droplet and the gas bubble,but there are some significant differences between the experimental and simulation results.While the oil droplet is moving on the bubble’s surface,the velocity of the area near the contact point of oil droplet–gas bubble is less than that of the other areas inside the oil droplet.Meanwhile,the flow of water above the oil drop is more biased towards the gas bubble.

Association between Genetic Variants of Transforming Growth Factor-β1 and Susceptibility of Pneumoconiosis： A Meta-analysis

Background： Transforming growth factor-beta 1 （TGF-β 1） and gene variants have been extensively studied in various human diseases. For example, TGF-β1 polymorphisms were associated with fibrosis and pneumoconiosis, but the data remained controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the association between TGF-β1-509 C〉T [rs 1800469], ＋869 T〉C [rs 1800470], and ＋915 G〉C [rs 1800471 ] polymorphisms and pneumoconiosis, Methods： A comprehensive literature search was conducted through searching in PubMed, Embase, the Chinese Biomedical Database, and the Wei Pu （Chinese） Database by the end of April 2016. Eleven publications with 21 studies were included in this recta-analysis, covering a total of 4333 patients with pneumoconiosis and 3478 controls. Study quality was assessed, and heterogeneity and publication bias were measured. All statistical analyses were performed using STATA version 12.0 （StataCorp, College Station, TX, USA） software. Results： The data showed significant associations between TGF-β1-509 C〉T polymorphism and the risk ofpneumoconiosis development （T vs. C, odds ratio [OR] = 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]： 1.00-1.81, P = 0.046）; between TGF-fll ＋915 G〉C polymorphism and the pneumoconiosis risk （C vs. G, OR = 1.69, 95% CI： 1.19-2.40, P = 0.004; CG vs. GG, OR = 1.79, 95% CI： 1.23-2.60, P = 0.002; CC＋CG vs. GG, OR = 1.80, 95% CI： 1.24-2.61, P = 0.002）. In addition, the subgroup analysis of ethnicity versus pneumoconiosis types indicated a significant association of silicosis among Asian populations but not that of coal workers＇ pneumoconiosis in Caucasian populations. In contrast, no significant association was exhibited between TGF-β1 ＋869 T〉C polymorphism and risk ofpneumoconiosis. Conclusion： The polymorphisms of both TGF-β1 -509 C〉T and ＋915 G〉C are associated with increased risk of pneumoconiosis. To the Editor：Asthma poses a serious health problem globally.People of all ages can be affected by this chronic airway disorder that,when uncontrolled,may place severe limits on daily life and is sometimes fatal.The prevalence of asthma is increasing in most countries throughout the world,especially among children.[1]During the past decades,many scientific advances have been made to improve our understanding of asthma and our ability to manage and control it effectively.These advances are mainly reflected by related scientific articles,particularly by those most influential papers.
