This work is focused to examine the erosive performance of hybrid Palmyra palm leaf stalk fiber(PPLSF)/glass polyester laminate against solid particle bombardment.A hand lay-up method was adopted for the fabricating four piles of five distinct laminates with different stacking order glass and PPLSF *** them,one group of pure PPLSF and pure E-glass laminates were *** hybrid laminates were exposed to high speed stream of solid sand particle at three distinct impact velocities(48,70 and 82 m/s)and four different angles of impingement(30°,45°,60°and 90°).The effect of particle velocity,angle of impingement and stacking order on both wear rate and efficiency were *** experimental assessment reveals a significant improvement in erosive wear resistance properties due to hybridization of PPLSF with ***,the laminates with PPLSF layer as skin and glass as core layer exhibited better erosive wear resistance properties than other types of ***,a maximum value of erosion at lower velocity(48 m/s)is also noticed at 45°impingement ***,at high velocity of impact 70 m/s and 82 m/s,the maximum rate of erosion has been shifted from 45°impact angle to 60°impact *** alternation of this semi-ductile character to semi-brittle character is evidenced by analyzing the experimental *** to justify the mode of erosion,the eroded surface samples were inspected by scanning electron microscope(SEM).

Modern technology for developing new items made from renewable resources is becoming more and more popular as a result of rising environmental ***,contemporary polymer composites have included the hybridization of natural fibers with synthetic ones,along with the inclusion of a variety of biowaste filler for developing sustainable *** this work,the kenaf/glass hybrid polyester composites are strengthened by the addition of fish scale(FS),which is taken from the fish􀆳s outermost layer of *** different stacked-order laminates,such as KKKK,KGKG,GKKG,KGGK,and GGGG,are fabricated by using the hand lay-up method with four different weight concentrations of filler content:0%,5%,10%,and 15%.Mechanical possessions such as tensile,flexural,impact strength and micro-hardness have been evaluated through experimentation in accordance with ASTM *** experimental findings revealed that,the tensile strength and micro-hardness value of KGKG laminates with 15wt% of FS filler are found to be maximum of 118.72 MPa and 17.82 HV respectively which are 39.67%and 26.11%greater than that of KGKG laminates without FS ***,the flexural and impact strength of same laminates with 10 wt% FS filler exhibited a maximum value of 142.77 MPa and 62.08 kJ/m^(2).In order to corroborate its applicability for structural and building materials in open environment,the dimensional stability of the composite has been studied through moisture absorption *** influences of FS filler loading on dimensional stability and resistance to moisture absorption capacity of laminates are also *** experimental results reflected that the addition of FS-filler has significantly improved the dimensional stability of the laminates in moist environment by reducing the moisture absorption *** further support the mode of failures,a fractography investigation of fractured surfaces was conducted.

This review provides an updated account on the current methods,principles and mechanism of action of therapies for the detection of molecular markers of therapeutic importance in the prognosis of breast cancer progression and recurrence,which includes estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor(PR)and human epidermal growth factor receptor2(HER2).Indeed,hormone-receptors namely,ER,PR,proto-oncogene HER2 are the basic molecular markers that are recognized and established prognostic factors and predictors of response,for therapeutic *** markers can be detected by using immunohistochemistry(IHC)and fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH),which are established,faster and cost effective detection *** molecular markers along with clinicopathological prognostic parameters give the best prediction of the prognosis of cancer recurrence and ***,hormone receptors and HER2 as molecular markers are of prime therapeutic importance and have the capability to take part in future drug development techniques.

Historical variations in autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to the largest freshwater lake in Central India

Lacustrine sediment preserves high-resolution biogeochemical records of past variations in watershed processes controlling lake sedimentation. The current study explores historical variations in autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to a large tropical freshwater lake system(Upper Lake, Bhopal) protected under the international Ramsar Convention of 2002 against anthropogenic pressures. For this purpose, multi-proxy biogeochemical data are presented for organic matter(total organic carbon, total nitrogen, phosphorous, and loss on ignition [LOI] at550°C), carbonate(LOI at 950°C), lithic sediment(aluminum, titanium, iron, calcium, magnesium,sodium, potassium, manganese, zirconium, niobium, hafnium, tantalum, thorium, uranium, and rare earth elements), and anthropogenic inputs(lead) measured in a 38 cm long sediment core retrieved from the lake. In addition to the lacustrine sediment core, the samples of catchment bedrock, surface soils, major stream sediment, and eolian dust collected from the lake periphery also are analyzed. The systematic biogeochemical excursions in the upper core section(top ～8 cm) indicate increased anthropogenic inputs, watershed denudation by agricultural activities, artificially reduced fluvial sediment supply, relatively increased dust inputs and lake eutrophication in the last few decades. The current study underscores the roles of anthropogenic land-use and wetland conservation practices in the rapid alteration of autochthonous and allochthonous sediment supplies to open aquatic ecosystems. Further, rising lake eutrophication levels despite a managed reduction in allochthonous sediment supplies seem challenging to control due to dissolved nutrient supply from urban sewage discharge and runoff from agricultural land in the watershed.

Geochemical characteristics and mode of occurrence of trace elements in coal at West Bokaro coalfield

The mineralogy and trace element contents in coals from the West Bokaro coalfield, which is the one of the biggest Gondwana coalfields of India, were studied to delineate enrichment of trace elements and their modes of occurrence. Elemental concentrations with reference to their crustal abundances indicated that coals are relatively enriched in As (4.4–15.5 mg/kg), Cd (0.3–3.0 mg/kg), Cu (28.0–68.1 mg/kg) and V (46.6–178.0 mg/kg); depleted in Co (10.8–28.4 mg/kg), Mn (7.6–483.4 mg/kg), Ni (13.0–31.6 mg/kg), Cr (14.2–85.5 mg/kg) and Zn (5.25–70.4 mg/kg). The concentration of As, Cd, Co, Cu and V were higher than the average values of world and Indian coals. Mineralogical study carried out by X-ray diffraction shows that quartz and kaolinite occur as dominant mineral phases in this coal. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy pattern suggests organic structures primarily containing aromatic nuclei, aliphatic side chain and some oxygen containing groups. The modes of occurrence of trace elements present in these coals have been determined through statistical approach. Both Cu and Cr are more closely associated with mineral matter, whereas Co is dominantly present with its organic form. The concentrations of Cd, Mn, Ni, Zn, As and V have apparently occur in both organic and inorganic constituents. This study would be helpful to assess the potential environmental impacts during mining and combustion of this coal.

A spectroscopic study of the interaction of the antioxidant naringin with bovine serum albumin

The interaction of naringin with bovine serum albumin has been performed using fluorescence, circular dichroism and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in 20 mM phosphate buffer of pH 7.0 as well as molecular docking studies. The changes in enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) of the interaction were found to be +18.73 kJ/mol and +143.64 J mol-1 K-1 respectively, indicating that the interaction of naringin with bovine serum albumin occurred mainly through hydrophobic interactions. Negative values of free energy change (ΔG°) at different temperatures point toward the spontaneity of the interaction. Circular dichroism studies reveal that the helical content of bovine serum albumin decreased after interaction with naringin. According to the F?rster non-radiative energy transfer theory the distance between Trp 213 residue and naringin was found to be 3.25 nm. Displacement studies suggest that naringin binds to site 1 (subdomain IIA) of bovine serum albumin (BSA) which was also substantiated by molecular docking studies.

Morbidity Profile and Causes of Mortality in Type 2 Diabetes Patients: Data from a Tertiary Teaching Hospital from Eastern India

Background: Data regarding the prevalence of morbidity and mortality in patients of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is scanty in India. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of micro and macro vascular complications, acute metabolic complications, infections, Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and cause of mortality in T2DM patients admitted to a tertiary care teaching hospital in Eastern India. Material and Methods: This was a hospital-based prospective study evaluating 150 T2DM patients admitted to a tertiary care institution in Eastern India. Diagnosis of micro and macro vascular complications, infections and NAFLD was made using standard protocols. In case of death, the most probable cause was noted. Results: Out of 150 patients, 14.7% of patients were newly diagnosed T2DM and out of them 41% of patients had vascular complications and 54.5% had infections. Of the total patients, 56% had nephropathy, 20% neuropathy, 17.3% retinopathy, 31.3% CVD, 11.3% CAD, 4.6% acute metabolic complications, 44% infections and 16.6% had NAFLD respectively. Macrovascular events occured earlier than microvascular complications. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed strong association of age, duration of diabetes, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-C with retinopathy (Regression coefficient β: -0.1086807, 0.4127152, -0.0513393, 0.0146429, 0.0587475;p < 0.05, < 0.001, < 0.05, < 0.05, < 0.05 respectively), while only duration of diabetes was strongly associated with nephropathy and neuropathy (Regression coefficient β: 0.2538751, 0.2261636;p < 0.001 for each). Increasing age was associated with CAD (Regression coefficient β: 0.055392;p β: 0.0055014;p 18.6% patients died due to diabetes related complications. Cardiovascular (CV)-related deaths (CVD+CAD) were most common cause (51.5%: CVD 36.4%, CAD 15.1%) to be followed by infections (27.3%) and then chronic kidney disease (12.1%).
