Formation and Thermal Stability of Large Precipitates and Oxides in Titanium and Niobium Microalloyed Steel

As-cast CC slabs of microalloyed steels are prone to surface and sub-surface cracking. Precipitation phenomena initiated during solidification reduce ductility at high temperature. The unidirectional solidification unit is employed to simulate the solidification process during continuous casting. Precipitation behavior and thermal stability are systematically investigated. Samples of adding titanium and niobium to steels have been examined using field emission scanning electron microscope （FE-SEM）, electron probe X-ray microanalyzer （EPMA）, and transmission electron microscope （TEM）. It has been found that the addition of titanium and niobium to high-strength low-alloyed （HSLA） steel resulted in undesirable large precipitation in the steels, i. e. , precipitation of large precipitates with various morphologies. The composition of the large precipitates has been determined, The effect of cooling rate on （Ti, Nb）（C, N） precipitate formation is investigated. With increasing the cooling rate, titanium-rich （Ti,Nb）（C,N） precipitates are transformed to niobium-rich （Ti,Nb）（C,N） precipitates. The thermal stability of these large precipitates and oxides have been assessed by carrying out various heat treatments such as holding and quenching from temperature at 800 and 1 200℃. It has been found that titanium-rich （Ti,Nb）（C,N） precipitate is stable at about 1 200 ℃ and niobium-rich （Ti,Nb）（C,N） precipitate is stable at about 800 ℃. After reheating at 1 200℃ for 1 h, （Ca,Mn）S and TiN are precipitated from Ca-Al oxide. However, during reheating at 800 ℃ for l h, Ca-Al-Ti oxide in specimens was stable. The thermodynamic calculation of simulating the thermal process is employed. The calculation results are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Comparison of three processing methods for laminated bamboo timber production

Three processing techniques, split-squaring(SS),V-grooving(VG), and split-edging(SE), were evaluated and compared in terms of their processing time and recovery. Semantan bamboo(Gigantochloa scortechinii Gamble) was used as a raw material and the results showed that the VG-method required the longest processing time(32.1 min), followed by the SS-method(18.2 min), and the SE-method(17.9 min). However, the VG-method showed the highest recovery(82.0%) compared to the SS-method and SE-method, 31.0 and 49.4%, respectively. When both processing time and recovery factors were combined with the same weighing factor, the highest value was recorded with the VG-method(49.1), while the SE-method had values of 31.1 and the SS-method 12.8. The results suggest that the VG-method is the best option. However, the V-grooving machine is still a prototype and therefore the SE-method could be an alternative option until the improved V-grooving machine is available.

Dopaminergic effects on in vitro osteogenesis

Multiple growth factors（e.g., BMP2, TGF-b1, FGF2） and isolated genes have been shown to improve osteoblastic proliferation and mineralization, advancing bone tissue engineering. Among these factors, both polydopamine（PDA） and dopamine（DA） monomer have recently been reported to increase osteoblast proliferation and mineralization in vitro. Although a well-characterized neurotransmitter, DA＇s role in the bone is unknown. We hypothesize that DA can directly act on osteoblasts, and examined whether osteoblasts express DA receptors that respond to exogenous DA. m RNAs and protein cell lysates were obtained from MC3T3-E1 cells during osteogenic differentiation phase. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis were used to examine the expression of DA receptors, D1–D5. Dose-response effect and time course of DA treatment on cell proliferation, mineralization, and osteogenic differentiation were investigated at pre-determined days. Real-time PCR was performed to investigate whether DA affects osteogenic gene expression（ALP, BSP, OC, OSX, RUNX2, and Collagen1a2） with or without receptor antagonists（SCH233390 and GR103691）. Two-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. All five DA receptors（D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5） m RNAs and proteins were expressed in MC3T3-E1 cells. DA treatment increased cell proliferation for up to 7 days（P, 0.05）. Osteogenic mineralization was significantly greater in the DA-treated group than control group（P, 0.05）. Finally, expression of all the osteogenic genes was inhibited by DA receptor antagonists for D1, D3, and D5. Our findings suggest that MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts express functional DA receptors that enhance proliferation and mineralization. PDA is not biologically inert and has important implications in orthopedic applications. Furthermore, osteoblast differentiation might be regulated by the nervous system, presumably during bone development, remodeling, or repair.

Weekly pattern of emergency room admissions for peptic ulcers:A population-based study

BOTTOM SHEAR STRESS UNDER WAVE-CURRENT INTERACTION

The present work adopts the COHERENS-SWAN model developed by the first author through coupling three-dimensional hydrodynamic model （COHERENS） and third-generation wave model （SWAN）. Inside the COHERENS-SWAN, the SWAN is regarded as a subroutine and the time- and space-varying current velocity and surface elevation are obtained from the COHERENS. Wave-enhanced bottom shear stress, wave induced surface mixing length and wave dependent surface drag coefficient have been introduced into the COHERENS. Secondly, as wave-enhanced bottom shear stress （＂bottom shear stress＂ described as BSS sometimes in this article） is concerned, a modified bottom shear stress Grant and Madsen model which introduces random wave field is given and introduced to COHERENS-SWAN. COHERENS-SWAN is also adopted to simulate three-dimensional flow in the Yellow River Delta with wave-current co-existing. Four numerical experiments were given to study the effects of wave-current interaction on enhancing bottom shear stress. The simulated current velocities, wave height and wave period match well with field measurement data. The simulated significant wave height and wave period for the case with considering the effects of current can give better agreement with measurement data than the case without involving the effects of current. The introduction of random wave generates lower the bottom shear stress than the case without introducing it. There are obvious differences between bottom shear stress of two way interaction and one way interaction. Velocity field obtained by the COHERENS-SWAN is reasonable according to previous studies and measurements.

Objective： To investigate whether three strains of probiotics, L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes, had significant inhibitive effects on Helicobacter pylori（H. pylori）. Methods： This is a 4-week, randomly assigned, parallel-group, doubled-blind, and placebo-controlled study. Fifty patients with a positive H. pylori infection urea breath test（△UBT） result 〉 10% and without ulcer symptoms were randomized into a treatment group and a placebo group by a computer generated allocation sheet with 1：1. These subjects took one capsule of probiotics or placebo twice daily. The primary measurement was the change in △UBT values. Results： The △UBT values during the 4-week treatment period and the 2-week follow-up period were not significantly different between the treatment group and the placebo group, indicating that the inhibitive effects on H. pylori were comparable between both groups. The monocyte count（%） was 5.77±1.11 in the treatment group versus 5.09±1.12 in the placebo group（P=0.044）, and the basophile count was 0.55±0.32 in the treatment group versus 0.36±0.23 in the placebo group（P=0.024） at week 2 of the treatment period, both of which reached statistical significance. The monocyte count was 5.75±1.26 in the treatment group and 4.72±0.99 in the placebo group at the end of the follow-up period（P=0.003）. Conclusions： There was no significant inhibitive effects of the three probiotic strains（L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes） on H. pylori. Probiotics can not play the same role as antibiotics in the eradication of H. pylori, the role of probiotics is likely to be important as adjuvant to the triple or quadruple therapy for H. pylori, especially in resistance cases.

Training gastroenterology fellows to perform gastric polypectomy using a novel ex vivo model

AIM:To evaluate the effect of hands-on training of gastroenterology fellows in gastric polypectomy using an ex vivo ***:Eight gastroenterology fellows at Mackay Memorial Hospital,Taipei were evaluated in gastricpolypectomy techniques using a pig stomach with artificial polyps created by a rubber band ligation *** performance of four second year(year-2)fellows who had undergone one year of clinical training was compared with that of four f irst year(year-1)fellows both before and after a 4-h workshop using the ex vivo *** workshop allowed for hands-on train-ing in the removal of multiple artif icial polyps and the placement of hemoclips at the excision *** included observation of technical skills,procedure time,and the fellows' conf idence ***:One week after the workshop,the year-1 fellows were re-evaluated and had significantly im-proved mean performance scores(from 17.9 ± 1.8 to 22.5 ± 0.7),conf idence scale(from 4.5 ± 1.0 to 7.8 ± 0.5)and procedure time(from 615.0 ± 57.4 s to 357.5 ± 85.0 s)compared with their baseline *** 4 h of training using the ex vivo simulator,the skills of the year-1 fellows were statistically similar to those of the year-2 ***:Use of this ex vivo simulator significantly improved the endoscopic gastric polypectomy skills of gastroenterology fellows who had not had previous clinical training in gastric polypectomy.

A mobile medical information system (MMIS) is an integrated application (app) of traditional hospital information systems (HIS) which comprise a picture archiving and communications system (PACS), laboratory information system (LIS), pharmaceutical management information system (PMIS), radiology information system (RIS), and nursing information system (NIS). A dynamic resource allocation table is critical for optimizing the performance to the mobile system, including the doctors, nurses, or other relevant health workers. We have designed a smart dynamic resource allocation model by using the C4.5 algorithm and cumulative distribution for optimizing the weight of resource allocated for the five major attributes in a cooperation communications system. Weka is used in this study. The class of concept is the performance of the app, optimal or suboptimal. Three generations of optimization of the weight in accordance with the optimizing rate are shown.
