Backgroun.: Evaluatin. the tumor proliferative in.ex helps predict clin.cal behavior an. provides progn.stic in.ights for cutan.ous basal cell carcin.ma (cBCC) an. squamous cell carcin.ma (cSCC). Objective: This study aimed to iden.ify differen.es in.the proliferative in.ices amon. varian.s of cBCC an. cSCC diagn.sed at a tertiary healthcare cen.er. Method: Skin.biopsies histologically diagn.sed as cBCC an. cSCC between.2012 an. 2018 at the Federal Medical Cen.re (FMC) Umuahia, Abia State, n.geria, were an.lyzed. Archival formalin.fixed, paraffin.embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks were retrieved alon. with clin.cal data, an. were prepared on.charged microscope slides an. the immun.histochemical stain.n. was carried out. The primary an.ibody used in.this study was clon. BioCare CRM325C (RM) an. aden.ton.illar tissue blocks/slides served as positive con.rols. Ki-67 immun.histochemistry was performed on.fresh 4µm section. of the tumor specimen.. Results: The application.of Ki-67 immun.peroxidase on.both BCC an. SCC cohort, yielded an.in.en.e observable brown.sh n.clear stain.in.areas of den.e proliferatin. tumour cells on.both cutan.ous tumours. The average Ki-67 in.ex for all cSCC cases was 24.7%, with a ran.e of 2.3% - 80%, while the mean.for cBCC was 15.8%, ran.in. from 1.2% - 45.6%. Varian.s with high proliferative in.ices were observed in.11.9% of cBCC cases an. 29.1% of cSCC cases. Amon. the low proliferative in.ex category, cSCC accoun.ed for 5.4%, while cBCC represen.ed 14.3%. For mild proliferative in.ices, cSCC cases made up 7.3% an. cBCC, 11.9%. The majority of cases showed moderate proliferative in.ices, with 61.9% for cBCC an. 58.2% for cSCC. Overall, there was a sign.fican. differen.e in.proliferative in.ices between.cSCC, cBCC, an. their varian.s. Con.lusion. The study foun. a sign.fican.ly higher rate of cell proliferation. measured by Ki-67 immun.stain.n., in.cSCC an. its varian.s compared to cBCC. However, certain.varian.s of cBCC also exhibited high Ki-67
