Iron-oxidizing strain(FeOB)and iron modified biochars have been shown arsenic(As)reme-diation ability in the ***,due to the complicated soil environment,few field experiment has been *** study was conducted to investigate the potential of iron modified biochar(BC-FeOS)and biomineralization by a new found FeOB to remediate As-contaminated paddy *** with the control,the As contents of G_(B)(BC-FeOS),G_(F)(FeOB),G_(FN)(FeOB and nitrogen fertilizer),G_(BF)(BC-FeOS and FeOB)and G_(BFN)(BC-FeOS,FeOB and nitrogen fertilizer)treatments in pore water decreased by 36.53%-80.03%and the microbial richness of iron-oxidizing bacteria in these treatments increased in soils at the rice maturation *** concentrations of available As of G_(B),G_(F),G_(FN),G_(BF) and G_(BFN) at the tillering stage were significantly decreased by 10.78%-55.48%.The concentrations of non-specifically absorbed and specifically absorbed As fractions of G_(B),G_(F),G_(FN),G_(BF) and G_(BFN) in soils were decreased and the amorphous and poorly crystalline hydrated Fe and Al oxidebound fraction was ***,the As contents of G_(B),G_(F),G_(FN),G_(BF) and G_(BFN) in rice grains were significantly decreased(*Plimit of the National Standard for Food Safety(GB 2762-2017).Compared with the other treatments,G_(BFN) showed the greatest potential for the effective remediation of As-contaminated paddy fields.

Studying dynamical models of the core galaxy NGC 1399 with merging remnants

An investigation on the possible dynamical models of the core galaxy NGC 1399 is *** early-type galaxies are likely to be formed through merging events, remnant rings are considered in the modeling process.A numerical survey over three parameters is employed to obtain the best-fit models that are completely consistent with *** is found that the inner slope of the dark matter profile is cuspy for this core *** existence of remnant rings in best-fit models indicates a merging *** remnant ring explains the flattened surface brightness and thus could be the physical counterpart of the core structure of NGC 1399.

Biogeochemistry of sedimentary organic matter in the Yongjiang River estuary in the southern part of Hangzhou Bay,china,since the Late Pleistocene

A sediment core(YJK19-02)collected from the southern outlet of Hangzhou Bay near the Yongjiang River estuary in East china was analyzed for grain size,lignin,bulk elemental composition,stable carbon isotope,and rare earth elements(REEs)to determine the sources and diagenesis of sedimentary organic matter(OM)of the estuary and adjacent areas since the Late Pleistocene.δ^(13)C values(-24.80‰–-23.60‰),total organic carbon/total nitrogen(TOC/TN)molar ratios(8.00–12.14),and light rare earth element/heavy rare earth element ratios(LREE/HREE=8.34–8.91)revealed the predominance of terrestrial sources of OM,mainly from the Changjiang(Yangtze)*** lignin parameters of syringyl/vanillyl(S/V=0.20–0.73)and cinnamyl/vanillyl(C/V=0.03–0.19)ratios indicate the predominance of nonwoody angiosperms,and the vanillic acid/vanillin ratios[(Ad/Al)_(V)=0.32–1.57]indicate medium to high degrees of lignin *** increasing trend ofΛ(total lignin in mg/100-mg OC)values from ca.14500 a BP to ca.11000 a BP reflected the increase in temperature during the Late ***,a time lag effect of temperature on vegetation abundance was also *** relatively higher and stableΛvalues correspond to the higher temperature during the mid-Holocene from ca.8500 a BP to ca.4500 a BP.Λvalues decreased from ca.4000 a BP to the present,corresponding to historical temperature fluctuations during this *** results show that the vegetation abundance in the Yongjiang River Basin since the Late Pleistocene was related to the temperature fluctuation duo to climate change.

Effects of root morphology and anatomy on cadmium uptake and translocation in rice(Oryza sativa L.)

A clear description of the certain mechanisms of cadmium(Cd) uptake and translocation in rice(Oryza sativa L.) may help to reduce Cd accumulation in rice grain. Hydroponic experiments were carried out to determine the effects of cultivation conditions(aerated and stagnant) on the uptake, translocation and subcellular distribution of Cd in relation to the morphology and anatomy of roots in two rice genotypes with different Cd accumulations in grains. Marked differences in morphology and anatomy were observed between these two genotypes under different cultivation conditions. Genotypes with low Cd accumulation in grains tended to develop fewer root tips per root surface area, larger root porosity and more mature apoplastic barriers. The stagnant cultivation condition decreased the number of root tips per root surface area but increased root porosity and accelerated apoplastic barrier formation in root *** Cd uptake studies revealed that rice plants with fewer number of root tips per root surface area reduced root Cd uptake ability, while mature apoplastic barriers increased root Cd retention in cell walls and the symplast. Thus, the fewer number of root tips per root surface area and the earlier formation of mature apoplastic barriers led to lower Cd uptake and translocation. The results indicated that the morphology and anatomy of roots could play important roles in Cd uptake and translocation in rice, and could be influenced by both genotype and cultivation conditions. The present results would be useful in screening and planting rice plants with low Cd accumulation.

Tunable catalytic activity of gadolinium-doped ceria nanoparticles for pro-oxidation of hydrogen peroxide

We report a study of the roles of gadolinium(lll)(Gd3+)dopants in influencing the catalytic activity of gadolinium-doped ceria nanoparticles towards the pro-oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to hydroxyl *** doped ceria nanoparticles with dopant concentrations of 0.6 wt.%,3 wt.%,and 6 wt.%Gd^3+were synthesized using an ozone-mediated method for tuning their catalytic *** Gd dopants were found to foster an increase in the percentage of Ce^3+ions in the doped ceria *** reaction kinetic study revealed that the relationship between the overall reaction rates and the Gd dopant concentrations in our doped materials followed a volcano-like *** contrast,the apparent activation energy values of these Gd-doped ceria nanoparticles were found to be positively associated with the concentrations of Gd *** overall catalytic activity trend was attributed to the interplay between the promotion and degradation effects of the Gd dopants on the properties of doped ceria nanoparticles.

Study of Intrusion Detection Systems

Modern network systems have much trouble in security vulnerabilities such as buffer overflow, bugs in Microsoft Internet, sensor network routing protocol too simple, security flaws of applications, and operating systems. Moreover, wireless devices such as smart phones, personal digital assistants （PDAs）, and sensors have become economically feasible because of technological advances in wireless communication and manufacturing of small and low-cost sensors. There are typologies of vulnerabilities to be exploited in these devices. In order to improve securities, many mechanisms are adopted, including authentication, cryptography, access control, and intrusion detection systems （IDS）. In general, intrusion detection techniques can be categorized into two groups： misuse detection and anomaly detection. The misuse detection systems use patterns of weB-known attacks or weak spots of the systems to identify intrusions. The weakness of misuse detection systems is unable to detect any future （unknown） intrusion until corresponding attack signatures are intruded into the signature database. Anomaly detection methods try to determine whether the deviation is from the established normal usage patterns or not. The critical success of anomaly detection relies on the model of normal behaviors.

Outcomes of a non-randomised audit of single pigtail suture stents in urolithiasis management of Asian patients in Singapore

AIM To investigate the association between a recent gastrointestinal(GI) endoscopy and the subsequent risk of pyogenic liver abscess(PLA).METHODS We designed a nested case control study. Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, 2135 patients with a first diagnosis of PLA were identified from 1998 to 2011. Another 10675 patients without PLA matched by age and sex were selected as reference controls. We identified and compared the possible risk factors for PLA and GI endoscopies performed before the index date(when PLA was diagnosed) between the two cohorts. Multivariate analysis was conducted to examine the risk of PLA within the 90 d after the GI *** Patients with a history of diabetes [adjusted odds ratio(a OR) = 4.92, 95%CI: 1.78-13.61], end-stage renal disease(a OR = 3.98, 95%CI: 1.45-10.91), biliary tract infection(a OR = 2.68, 95%CI: 2.11-3.40), liver cirrhosis(a OR = 2.19, 95%CI: 1.39-3.46), GI malignancies(a OR = 5.68, 95%CI: 4.23-7.64), appendicitis(a OR = 3.16, 95%CI: 2.27-4.41), diverticulitis(a OR = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.01-2.64), and recent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(a OR = 27.04, 95%CI: 11.65-62.72) were significantly associated with an increased risk of PLA. After adjusting for the above risk factors and the frequency of outpatient department visits and abdominal ultrasounds during 90 d before the index date, an upper GI panendoscopy(a OR = 2.75, 95%CI: 2.05-3.69) but not a lower GI endoscopy(a OR = 1.07, 95%CI: 0.62-1.86) was significantly associated with *** An upper GI panendoscopy performed before 90 d may increase the risk of PLA.
