We have newly designed an electrostatic sensor,called an electric field mill(EFM),to simplify the estimation of the charge position and charge amount transferred by lightning *** is necessary for this remote estimation of the transferred charge to measure electric field changes caused by charge loss at the time of a lightning strike at multiple *** multiple-station measurement of electric field changes,not only speed but also phase for exposure and shielding of the sensing plates inside each EFM of the array should be synchronized to maintain the sensitivities of the deployed ***,there is no such EFM with specified speed and phase control performance of the rotary ***,we developed a new EFM in which the rotary mechanism was controlled consistently to within 3%error by a GPS *** EFMs had been distributed in the Hokuriku area of Japan during the winter season of 2022-2023 for a test *** we describe the design and a simple calibration method for our new EFM *** analysis method based on the assumption of a simple monopole charge structure is also *** validation,locations of assumed point charges were compared with three-dimensional lightning mapping data estimated by radio observations in the MF-HF *** results indicated the validity to estimate transferred charge amounts and positions of winter cloud-to-ground lightning discharges with our new EFM array.

Electrochemical CO_(2)reduction to produce value-added chemicals and fuels is one of the research hotspots in the field of energy *** development of efficient catalysts with high conductivity and readily accessible active sites for CO_(2)electroreduction remains challenging yet *** this work,a reliable poly(ethyleneimine)(PEI)-assisted strategy is developed to prepare a hollow carbon nanocomposite comprising a single-site Ni-modified carbon shell and confined Ni nanoparticles(NPs)(denoted as Ni@NHCS),where PEI not only functions as a mediator to induce the highly dispersed growth of Ni NPs within hollow carbon spheres,but also as a nitrogen precursor to construct highly active atomically-dispersed Ni-Nx *** from the unique structural properties of Ni@NHCS,the aggregation and exposure of Ni NPs can be effectively prevented,while the accessibility of abundant catalytically active Ni-Nx sites can be *** a result,Ni@NHCS exhibits a high CO partial current density of 26.9 mA cm^(-2)and a Faradaic efficiency of 93.0%at-1.0 V ***,outperforming those of its PEI-free *** from the excellent activity and selectivity,the shell confinement effect of the hollow carbon sphere endows this catalyst with long-term *** findings here are anticipated to help understand the structure-activity relationship in Ni-based carbon catalyst systems for electrocatalytic CO_(2)***,the PEI-assisted synthetic concept is potentially applicable to the preparation of high-performance metal-based nanoconfined materials tailored for diverse energy conversion applications and beyond.

Comprehensive Summary,Regulating spin crossover(SCO)behavior,especially controlling the spin transition steps,is an important scientific issue,mainly because people aim to control spin bistability and ***,SCO bistability can be regulated by changing the ligand-modifying species,non-coordinated anions,guest molecules,and metal-ion ***,the control of multistability is extremely challenging,especially in Fe(III)SCO ***,we report that[FeIII(H-5-Br-thsa)(5-Br-thsa)]·H2O(5-Br-thsa=(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide),a compound we have reported before,exists in two polymorphic forms:polymorph 1 exhibits three-step SCO,and polymorph 2 shows five-step SCO,with multi-step SCO behavior effectively regulated by *** to single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractometry,polymorphs 1 and 2 crystallize in different space groups during their spin transitions,with two-step symmetry breaking observed(Pbcn→Pnc2→Pbcn for polymorph 1;P21/n→Pn→P21/n for polymorph 2).We realized that the behavior of these two polymorphs depends significantly on the structure,including(i)the average Fe—N bond distance,(ii)deformation of octahedral FeIII atoms,and(iii)distinct crystal packing,which account for the large differences observed in magnetic properties.

Impact of postoperative sexual function on health-related quality of life after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy

Background:We investigated potential disparities in health-related quality of life,particularly concerning urinary function,between patients with preserved and those with impaired sexual function after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP).Materials and methods:BetweenDecember 2012 and April 2020,704men underwent RARP in our *** study included 155 patients with a preoperative 5-item International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5)of≥12 points and an assessable IIEF-5 at 12 months ***-related quality of life was assessed using the 8-item Short-Form Health Survey and Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite(EPIC)preoperatively and at 3,6,and 12months postoperatively.A logistic regression analysis andWilcoxon rank sum tests were ***:Patients were grouped according to the median IIEF-5 score 12 months after surgery:those with preserved sexual function(n=71)and those with impaired sexual function(n=84).The mental component summary of the 8-item Short-Form Health Survey was better in the group with preserved sexual function at 6 months postoperatively than in the group with impaired sexual function(p<0.01).In the EPIC,the group with preserved sexual function performed better not only in the sexual domain but also in the urinary domain at all time points comparedwith the groupwith impaired sexual function(p<0.01).In the comparison of the urinary subdomains of the EPIC,there were no significant differences in urinary function or incontinence,but there were significant differences in urinary distress and irritative/obstructive scores(p<0.01).Conclusions:Patients with preserved postoperative sexual function after RARP showed better urinary function than those with impaired sexual ***,preserved sexual function is closely associated with urinary function.
