Elastic Behavior of Polymer Chains

The elastic behavior of the polymer chain was investigated in a three-dimensional off-lattice model. We sample more than 109 conformations of each kind of polymer chain by using a Monte Carlo algorithm, then analyze them with the non-Gaussian theory of rubberlike elasticity, and end with a statistical study. Through observing the effect of the chain flexibility and the stretching ratio on the mean-square end-to-end distance, the average energy, the average Helmholtz free energy, the elastic force, the contribution of energy to the elastic force, and the entropy contribution to elastic force of the polymer chain, we find that a rigid polymer chain is much easier to stretch than a flexible polymer chain. Also, a rigid polymer chain will become difficult to stretch only at a quite high stretching ratio because of the effect of the entropy contribution. These results of our simulation calculation may explain some of the macroscopic phenomena of polymer and biomacromolecular elasticity.

Factors Affecting Polymer Translocation Through a Nanopore in a Membrane

Monte Carlo simulations were used to study the translocation of a flexible polymer through a pore in a membrane, assuming an attractive interaction between the monomers and the membrane on the trans side of the membrane and no interaction on the cis side. For the case T〈Tc （the temperature corresponding to the minimum in the translocation time τ）, the value of τdecreases with increasing temperature, whereas for T〉Tc, τ increases with increasing temperature. The translocation time depends on the absorbed energy uo in a nontrivial way. The value of τ increases initially upon increasing uo before it begins to decrease. The variation of the translocation time with respect to the solvent quality was also studied. It showed that there is a transition, as the solvent quality improves from ＂poor＂ to ＂good＂： when εAB〈εc （the interaction energy corresponding to the minimum in τ）, τdecreases with increasing the value of εAB; when εAB〉εc, τincreases with increasing εAB- When the chain length was changed, it was found that when the absorbed energy uo was greater than uc,τ was proportional to N1.602; for uo〈uc, τ∝N2.248. As the solvent quality improved from ＂poor＂ to ＂good,＂ the translocation probability increased initially before becoming stable.

Kinetic study on the reaction between CO_2-CO and wustite using the isotope exchange method

To investigate the reaction between CO2-CO and wustite using the isotope exchange method at 1073, 1173, 1273, and 1373 K, the experiment apparatus was designed to simulate the fluidized bed. The chemical rate constant was estimated by considering the effect of gas phase mass transfer on the reaction. It is found that the chemical rate constant is inversely decreased with the increase in the ratio of CO2/CO by volume. The activation energy of reaction is in a linear relationship with the ratio of COs/CO by volume, and the average activation energy is 155.37 kJ/mol.

Microstructure evolution and corrosion behavior of Nb-alloyed cast heat-resistant steel during different aging treatments

The microstructure evolution of heat-resistant cast stainless steels aged at 600, 700, 800 and 900 ℃ for 2 h was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Potentiodynamic polarization curves were applied to study the effects of Nb addition and aging temperature on corrosion resistance. The results demonstrated that eutectoid decomposition of the ferritic phase (δ → σ + γ2) was observed at 700-900 ℃. The content of σ-phase first increased and then decreased in the steels, where the maximum content was obtained at 800 ℃, indicating that the highest hardness occurred at 800 ℃ accordingly. The hardness of Nb-containing steels was significantly higher than that of Nb-free steels. The corrosion resistance of heatresistant cast steels in various aging temperatures was different due to the formation of σ-phase. Both Cr-rich carbides and σ-phase were harmful to the corrosion resistance, while Cr-rich carbides were the main factor. Nb-containing heat-resistant cast steels exhibited superior corrosion resistance, as Cr-rich carbides were reduced and the corrosion products of Nb-rich slowed down the formation of steady-state pits.

Decomposition of formaldehyde by EPD photocatalyst filters in HVAC

This study used electrophoretic deposition （EPD） to apply titanium oxide （TiO2） coating on stainless steel filters and investigated the effectiveness of photocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde by TiO2 under various conditions of heating ventilation air conditioning （HVAC）. The results showed photocatalytic efficiency could reach 35,59% at 21 ℃ and 36.39% at 26℃ with 7 photocatalyst filters and 5 UVC lamps, the overall efficiency of formaldehyde removal of 52.37% at 21 ℃, and 56.8% at 26 ℃, By all experimental data can be found that the temperature for the photocatalytic performance is not obvious in the range of this study.

Passive-Event-Assisted Approach for the Localizability of Large-Scale Randomly Deployed Wireless Sensor Network

Localizability in large-scale, randomly deployed Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) is a classic but challenging issue. To become localizable, WSNs normally require extensive adjustments or additional mobile nodes. To address this issue, we utilize occasional passive events to ease the burden of localization-oriented network adjustment. We prove the sufficient condition for node and network localizability and design corresponding algorithms to minimize the number of nodes for adjustment. The upper bound of the number of adjusted nodes is limited to the number of articulation nodes in a connected graph. The results of extensive simulations show that our approach greatly reduces the cost required for network adjustment and can thus provide better support for the localization of large-scale sparse networks than other approaches.

Robust and fast iterative sparse recovery method for space-time adaptive processing

Conventional space-time adaptive processing(STAP) requires large numbers of independent and identically distributed(i.i.d) training samples to ensure the performance of clutter suppression, which is hard to be achieved in practical complex nonhomogeneous environment. In order to improve the performance of clutter suppression with small training sample support, a robust and fast iterative sparse recovery method for STAP is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the sparse recovery of clutter spatial-temporal spectrum and the calibration of space-time overcomplete dictionary are achieved iteratively. Firstly, the robust solution of sparse recovery is derived by regularized processing, which can be calculated recursively based on the block Hermitian matrix property, afterwards the mismatch of space-time overcomplete dictionary is calibrated by minimizing the cost function. The proposed method can not only alleviate the effect of noise and dictionary mismatch, but also reduce the computational cost caused by direct matrix inversion. Finally, the proposed method is verified based on the simulated and the actual airborne phased array radar data, which shows that the proposed method is suitable for practical complex nonhomogeneous environment and provides better performance compared with conventional STAP methods.
