This paper presents probabilistic assessment of seismically-induced slope displacements considering uncertainties of seismic ground motions and soil properties.A stochastic ground motion model representing both the temporal and spectral non-stationarity of earthquake shakings and a three-dimensional rotational failure mechanism are integrated to assess Newmark-type slope displacements.A new probabilistic approach that incorporates machine learning in metamodeling technique is proposed,by combining relevance vector machine with polynomial chaos expansions(RVM-PCE).Compared with other PCE methods,the proposed RVM-PCE is shown to be more effective in estimating failure *** sensitivity and relative influence of each random input parameter to the slope displacements are ***,the fragility curves for slope displacements are established for sitespecific soil conditions and earthquake hazard *** results indicate that the slope displacement is more sensitive to the intensities and strong shaking durations of seismic ground motions than the frequency contents,and a critical Arias intensity that leads to the maximum annual failure probabilities can be identified by the proposed approach.

This paper proposes a human body motion capturing system using the depth images. It consists of three processes to estimate the human pose parameters. First, we develop a pixel-based body part classifier to segment the human silhouette into different body part sub-regions and extract the primary joints. Second, we convert the distribution of the joints to the feature vector and apply the regression forest to estimate human pose parameters. Third, we apply the temporal constraints mechanism to find the best human pose parameter with the minimum estimation error. In experiments, we show that our system can operate in real-time with sufficient accuracy.

BACKGROUND: People sometimes siphon fuel to fill their tanks. However, this is a potentially dangerous procedure and may cause hydrocarbon pneumonitis. We present the case of a patient with severe hydrocarbon pneumonitis after siphoning fuel. The patient underwent artifi cial ventilation and was admitted to hospital for 97 days. METHODS: We review the relevant literature for a better understanding of clinical features and management strategies for hydrocarbon pneumonitis following fuel ***: We reviewed 15 articles, which included 3 original articles and 12 case reports that reported the clinical features of fuel siphonage. In addition, we added our presented case for data analysis. A total of 40 cases were included in this review. The literature review found that hydrocarbon pneumonitis caused by fuel siphonage occurs worldwide and that most patients(80%) became symptomatic within 1 day of aspiration. Cough(70%), chest pain(62.5%), dyspnoea(55%), and fever(52.5%) presented in more than half of all patients. The right middle lobe(80%) was the predominantly involved lung fi eld; more than one-third of patients(36.7%) showed the involvement of two ***: Patient history, computed tomographic scans of the chest, and bronchoalveolar lavage are the commonly used diagnostic tools. Supportive care remains the foundation of treatment, whereas antibiotics, steroids, and bronchoalveolar lavage are practical therapies. Patients' clinical improvement precedes the resolution of lesions on chest X-ray. Most complications arise from pulmonary lesions. The prognosis of patients suffering from hydrocarbon pneumonitis following fuel siphonage might be improved by accurate diagnosis and appropriate care.

Multi-proxy signature schemes allow the original signer to delegate his/her signing power to n proxy signers such that all proxy signers must corporately generate a valid proxy signature on behalf of the original signer. We first propose a multi-proxy signature scheme based on discrete logarithms and then adapt it to the elliptic curve cryptosystem. With the integration of self-certified public-key systems and the message recovery signature schemes,our proposed schemes have the following advan-tages:(1) They do not require the signing message to be transmitted,since the verifier can recover it from the signature;(2) The authentication of the public keys,verification of the signature,and recovery of the message can be simultaneously carried out in a single logical step;(3) No certificate is needed for validating the public keys. Further,the elliptic curve variant with short key lengths especially suits the cryptographic applications with limited computing power and storage space,e.g.,smart cards. As compared with the previous work that was implemented with the certificate-based public-key systems,the proposed schemes give better performance in terms of communication bandwidth and computation efforts.

Reinforced concrete pipes(RCPs)were commonly used in older underground pipelines in Taiwan,***,their joints are prone to damage,including fracture and separation,from problems such as overloading,poor backfilling,and *** the rehabilitation of such aged pipelines,trenchless methods are preferred to minimize the impact on *** cured-in-place-pipe(CIPP)rehabilitation could be one of the most popular trenchless methods suitable for the cases with angular alignment and changing ***,according to the existing standards,no details are available on the performance of the rehabilitated parts of the damaged pipeline,including the effect of separated *** study designed and conducted laboratory testing on the composite pipe joint(the CIPP rehabilitated RCPs with a separated joint)with different scenarios,including radial and longitudinal loading *** radial test results indicated that,for a small separation distance,CIPP rehabilitation can restore the original function of a pipeline and improve its hoop *** longitudinal test revealed that the damage due to bending was controlled by the tensile strength of the liner *** ultimate flexural strength decreased as the separation distance ***,pipelines may be subjected to additional loads due to flotation or subsidence,for which the longitudinal loading capacity is often the limiting *** such conditions,it is necessary to confirm,by more research,whether the wall thickness is sufficient.

This paper presents the simulation and measured results of a triple-band L-shaped monopole antenna with defected ground plane for applications in wireless local area networks（WLANs） and worldwide interoperability for microwave access（WiMAX） *** triple-band L-shaped monopole antenna with defected ground plane was fabricated on a FR4 substrate. The lower band is associated with the shorted parasitic strip in the protruding stub of the ground plane; the middle band is expected to be controlled by the longer strip of L-shaped monopole in the front side,while the higher band is associated with the short strip of L-shaped monopole in the front side. The proposed antenna has a good agreement between the measured and the simulation results. It has a 10 d B return loss with the bandwidth of 250 MHz（2270 MHz to 2520MHz） in the lower band, 600 MHz（3320 MHz to 3,920MHz） in the middle band, and 1110 MHz（5030 MHz to6140 MHz） in the higher band. The proposed antenna covers the ISM（industrial, scientific and medical）,HIPERLAN（high performance radio local area network）, UNII（unlicensed national information infrastructure）, and WiM AX bands.

Experiments are carried out to study the characteristics of active bubbles entrained by breaking waves as these propagate over an abruptly topographical change or a submerged breakwater. Underwater sounds generated by the entrained air bubbles are detected by a hydrophone connected to a charge amplifier and a data acquisition system. The size distribution of the bubbles is then determined inversely from the received sound frequencies. The sound signals are converted from time domain to time-frequency domain by applying Gabor transform. The number of bubbles with different sizes are counted from the signal peaks in the time-frequency domain. The characteristics of the bubbles are in terms of bubble size spectra, which account for the variation in bubble probability density related to the bubble radius r. The experimental data demonstrate that the bubble probability density function shows a - 2.39 power-law sealing with radius for r 〉 0. 8 mm, and a- 1.11 power law for r 〈0.8 mm.

A conference key establishment protocol allows a group of conferees to agree on a secret key shared among them for secure group *** paper proposes a three-level conference key establishment protocol based on the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) framework to establish a group-level key,home location register (HLR) level keys,and visitor location register (VLR) level keys simultaneously for a group of *** group-level key is used to secure the communications for all conferees,the HLR-level key is for those within the same HLR domain,and the VLR-level key is for those within the same VLR *** group-level key can be used for securing inter-domain group-oriented applications such as commercial remote conferencing *** HLRand VLR-level keys can be used for securing intra-domain subgroup applications (e.g.,location-based or context-aware services) and dynamic key *** our proposed protocol exploits existing UMTS security functions and the exclusive-or operation,it is compatible with UMTS *** means that it is fast and easy to implement on the existing UMTS ***,the proposed protocol has low computational complexities and can provide cost effectiveness,load-amortization,scalability,user authentication,key establishment,key confirmation,key updating,and lawful interception.
