Antiarrhythmic drug usage and prostate cancer： a population-based cohort study

Even though the relationship between antiarrhythmic drug usage and subsequent prostate cancer （PCa） risk has recently been highlighted, relevant findings in the previous literature are still inconsistent. In addition, very few studies have attempted to investigate the association between sodium channel blockers or potassium channel blockers for arrhythmia and the subsequent PCa risk. Therefore, this cohort study aimed to find the relationship between antiarrhythmic drug usage and the subsequent PCa risk using a population-based dataset. The data used in this study were derived from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005, Taiwan, China. We respectively identified 9988 sodium channel blocker users, 3.63.potassium channel blocker users, 65 966 beta-blocker users, 23.3.6 calcium channel blockers users, and 703. digoxin users as the study cohorts. The matched comparison cohorts （one comparison subject for each antiarrhythmic drug user） were selected from the same dataset. Each patient was tracked for a 5-year period to define those who were subsequently diagnosed with PCa. After adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidities, and age, Cox proportional hazard regressions found that the hazard ratio （HR） of subsequent PCa for sodium channel blocker users was 1.12 （95% confidence interval [CI]： 0.84-1.50）, for potassium channel blocker users was 0.89 （95% CI. 0.59-1.3.）, for beta-blocker users was 1.08 （95% Ch 0.96-1.22）, for calcium channel blocker users was 1.14 （95% Ch 0.95-1.3.）, and for digoxin users was 0.89 （95% Ch 0.67-1.18）, compared to their matched nonusers. We concluded that there were no statistical associations between different types of antiarrhvthmic drug usage and subsequent PCa risk.

To study IgG subclasses for the hepatitis B virus （HBV） core antigen （anti-HBc） in different populations, a comparison was made between 104 chronic carriers （60 male and 44 female） and 43. recovered individuals （247 male and 192 female）. Biochemistry analyses of AST （aspartate aminotransferase） and ALT （alanine aminotransferase） were also performed. Among the 104 chronic carriers, 21 patients were found to be ALT and AST abnormal （〉 25 IU/ml）. After comparing these ALT and AST abnormal patients with other ALT and AST normal chronic carriers, no statistical difference was observed in the OD values of the anti-HBe （p 〉 0.05）. The ELISA results showed the anti-HBc IgG subclass pattern was IgG1 〉 IgG3.〉 IgG4 in chronic carriers and IgG3.〉 IgG1 〉 IgG4 in recovered individuals （p 〈 0.05）. This result suggests the IgG1/IgG3.ratio may be related with HBV status. However, in spite of the different anti-HBc IgG1/IgG3.patterns demonstrated in different populations, both anti-HBc IgG1 and IgG3.concentrations were significantly higher in chronic carriers （p 〈 0.05）. Therefore, both the anti-HBc IgG1/IgG3.ratio and their amounts differed. They may play a significant role in chronic carriers and recovered individuals. The anti-HBc IgG subclass profiles of chronic carriers were not changed regardless of liver inflammation, and were independent of sex and age.

Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection:Current status and future concepts

Helicobacter pylori(***)infection is highly associated with the occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases,including gastric inflammation,peptic ulcer,gastric cancer,and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid-tissue *** alternative therapies,including phytomedicines and probiotics,have been used to improve eradication,current treatment still relies on a combination of antimicrobial agents,such as amoxicillin,clarithromycin,metronidazole,and levofloxacin,and antisecretory agents,such as proton pump inhibitors(PPIs).A standard triple therapy consisting of a PPI and two antibiotics(clarithromycin and amoxicillin/metronidazole)is widely used as the first-line regimen for treatment of infection,but the increased resistance of *** to clarithromycin and metronidazole has significantly reduced the eradication rate using this therapy and bismuth-containing therapy or 10-d sequential therapy has therefore been proposed to replace standard triple ***,levofloxacin-based triple therapy can be used as rescue therapy for *** infection after failure of first-line *** increase in resistance to antibiotics,including levofloxacin,may limit the applicability of such ***,since resistance of *** to amoxicillin is generally low,an optimized high dose dual therapy consisting of a PPI and amoxicillin can be an effective first-line or rescue *** addition,the concomitant use of alternative medicine has the potential to provide additive or synergistic effects against *** infection,though its efficacy needs to be verified in clinical studies.

The study of using infrared thermal image to assist surgery of coronary artery bypass

Digital infrared thermography is suitable for monitoring the planar two-dimensional temperature distribution of curved surfaces of objects by sensing their infrared radiation. Cardiac infrared thermography also has a thermal coronary angiography alias. This study proposes a digital image processing methodology for locating blood clot blockage. This methodology contains four consequent processes. The two-dimensional gray scale infrared thermograph pixels are first binarized and classified as background or coronary arteries using multi-thresh adaptive *** coronary artery contours are extracted from segmented raw pixels using continuous pepper-like pixel removal,erosion,subtraction,recursive neighborhood visiting,contour point-list construction and short edge *** the third process one coronary artery branch is selected by physicians for calculating the longest curved central axis using morphological thinning and neighborhood analysis. In the last process the nearest left and right distances from each pixel along the directional central axis to its corresponding boundary contour are added as the coronary artery variable diameter at the current pixel's position. A variable diameter versus straighten length diagram along this axial curved path is plotted to provide useful physiological information to the physician. An obstruction rate equation is then defined to calculate the possible vascular blockage positions with the local minimal rates. Finally,preoperative cases are tested to prove the predictive positions are correct in comparison to individual patient myocardial perfusion imaging.

Relationship between antibacterial activity of chitosan and surface characteristics of cell wall

AIM: Five representative waterborne pathogens were used to illustrate the relationship between chitosan’s antibac- terial activity and the surface characteristics of the bacterial cell wall. METHODS: Chitosan was prepared with averaged 75 % or 95 % deacetylated degree to examine its antibacterial activity against waterborne pathogens. Fresh microbial inoculants for the antibacterial assessment were prepared on nutrient agar at 3.oC for 24 h. The evaluation items of antibacterial mechanism included hydrophilicity and negative charge analysis of cell surface, and adsorptive characteristics of chitosan to bacterial cell. All the experiments were applied in triplicate tests at least. RESULTS: Although cell wall hydrophilicity was similar among Gram-negative bacteria, the distribution of negative charge on their cell surfaces was quite different. More negatively charged cell surfaces had a greater interaction with chitosan, a phenomenon further confirmed by transmission electron micrography (TEM). CONCLUSION: Results showed the hydrophilicity in Gram-negative bacteria was much higher than in Gram-positive ones. The correlation coefficient 0.988 between the amount of absorbed chitosan and its inhibition efficiency indicated a close relationship.

Ancient migration routes of Austronesian-speaking populations in oceanic Southeast Asia and Melanesia might mimic the spread of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and non-recombining Y chromosome (NRY) are inherited uni-parentally from mother to daughter or from father to son respectively. Their polymorphism has initially been studied throughout populations of the world to demonstrate the "Out of Africa" hypothesis. Here, to correlate the distribution of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in different populations of insular Asia, we analyze the mtDNA information (lineages) obtained from genotyping of the hyper variable region (HVS I & II) among 1400 individuals from island Southeast Asia (ISEA), Taiwan and Fujian and supplemented with the analysis of relevant coding region polymorphisms. lineages that best represented a clade (a branch of the genetic tree) in the phylogeny were further analyzed using complete genomic mtDNA sequencing. Finally, these complete mtDNA sequences were used to construct a most parsimonious tree which now constitutes the most up-to-date mtDNA dataset available on ISEA and Taiwan. This analysis has exposed new insights of the evolutionary history of insular Asia and has strong implications in assessing possible correlations with linguistic, archaeology, demography and the NPC distribution in populations within these regions. To obtain a more objective and balanced genetic point of view, slowly evolving biallelic Y single nucleotide polymorphism (Y-SNP) was also analyzed. As in the first step above, the technique was first applied to determine affinities (macro analysis) between populations of insular Asia. Secondly, sixteen Y short tandem repeats (Y-STR) were used as they allow deeper insight (micro analysis) into the relationship between individuals of a same region. Together, mtDNA and NRY allowed a better definition of the relational, demographic, cultural and genetic components that constitute the make up of the present day peoples of ISEA. How does Bank Capital Affect Bank Profitability and Risk？ Evidence from China＇s WTO Accession

This paper examines how bank capital affects bank profitability and risk in China, and how its impact differed before and after the nation entered the WTO. Our study uses the dynamic generalized method of moments approach with a panel database containing 171 Chinese commercial banks. We ftnd that bank capital has significant influence on bank profitability and risk, but its impact has declined since China joined the WTO in 2001. For different sized groups, the impact of capital on profitability exhibits a distinct trend. The effects of capital on bank risk are different for large and small banks depending on the risk variables used for the Chinese banking industry.

Gastric adenocarcinoma is quite rare in children and as a result very little experience has been reported on with regards to clinical presentation,treatment and *** describe the case of a 16-year-old boy presenting with abdominal fullness and poor appetite for 7 *** showed massive ascites and computed tomography imaging revealed the presence of gastric mucosa thickness with omentum *** diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinoma was biopsyproven *** gastric adenocarcinoma being quite rare in the pediatric patient population,we should not overlook the possibility of gastric adenocarcinoma when a child presents with distended abdomen and massive ascites.

Searching for classical Be stars in LAMOST DR1

We report on searching for Classical B-type emission-line（CBe） stars in the first data release of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope（LAMOST; also called the Guo Shou Jing Telescope）. A total of 192 objects（including 12 previously known CBes） were identified as CBe candidates with prominent He I λ43.7, He I λ4471 and Mg II λ4481 absorption lines, as well as Hβλ4861and Hαλ6563.emission lines. These candidates significantly increase the currently known sample of CBes by about 8%. Most of the CBe candidates are distributed near the Galactic Anti-Center due to the observing strategy used for LAMOST. Only two CBes are in star clusters. These two CBes have ages of 15.8 and 3.8 Myr, respectively.

PECS: Towards Personalized Edge Caching for Future Service-Centric Networks

Mobile operators face the challenge of how to best design a service-centric network that can effectively process the rapidly increasing number of bandwidth-intensive user requests while providing a higher quality of experience(QoE). Existing content distribution networks(CDN) and mobile content distribution networks(mCDN) have both latency and throughput limitations due to being multiple network hops away from end-users. Here, we first propose a new Personalized Edge Caching System(PECS) architecture that employs big data analytics and mobile edge caching to provide personalized service access at the edge of the mobile network. Based on the proposed system architecture, the edge caching strategy based on user behavior and trajectory is analyzed. Employing our proposed PECS strategies, we use data mining algorithms to analyze the personalized trajectory and service usage patterns. Our findings provide guidance on how key technologies of PECS can be employed for current and future networks. Finally, we highlight the challenges associated with realizing such a system in 5G and beyond.
