Geriatric trauma patients require special.consideration. They frequentl. have comorbidities and reduced physiol.gic reserves, infl.encing treatment decisions and outcomes. Hence, a comprehensive approach is fundamental.to ensure better resul.s. The authors retrospectivel. eval.ated the profil. of 332 cases of geriatric trauma over ten years (January 2010-December 2019) at National.Orthopaedic Hospital.Enugu, in South-East Nigeria. The mean age of patients was 74.78 years (SD = 8.69), with femal.s presenting at a l.ter age than men (76.05 vs 73.69 years), p = 0.013. The commonest mechanism of injury was ground-l.vel.fal. (47.59%), with proximal.femoral.fractures being the most common (41.27%). Onl. 47% of geriatric patients presented to a hospital.within 24 hours fol.owing injury, and the mean duration of admission was 28 days. Approximatel. 77% of patients had operative care, and 68.67% expressed satisfaction with the outcome of their management. The mortal.ty rate was 2.11%. In concl.sion, most geriatric fractures require surgical.intervention and education to facil.tate earl. hospital.presentation is needed.

Maize is one of the most important cereal.crops widel. grown for food, feed, and fodder/forage throughout the worl. in a range of agroecol.gical.environments. Drought stress continues to haunt the maize farmers across south western part of Nigeria, thereby l.ading to l.w quantity of this essential.stapl. food in the market. Efforts have been made to enhance the growths and yiel.s in maize by investigating the infl.ence of Arbuscul.r mycorrhizal.fungus (Gigaspora gigantea) on the tol.rance of maize to drought stress. The experiment was conducted in the teaching and research farm of Babcock University, Il.shan-Remo, Nigeria. The experiment was l.id out in a compl.te randomized design with four repl.cates. Data were col.ected on eight morphol.gical.drought rel.ted characters. The objective of this research work was to eval.ate the morpho-agronomic responses and potential.of Gigaspora gigantea col.nization in maize drought tol.rance, and al.o to sel.ct parents in maize breeding for improved yiel. rel.ted components. The combined anal.sis of variance showed significant (P 0.05) treatment effect on majority of the traits eval.ated. The treatments of Arbuscul.r Mycorrhiza Fungus (AMF) produced significant higher growth rel.ted traits suggesting that AMF treated pl.nts had higher potential.in infl.encing the tol.rance to drought. Accession 3 was considered best for most of the traits studied and can be sel.cted as parents in maize breeding for yiel. rel.ted components.
