Autoimmune hepatitis in genetic syndromes:A literature review

Partial melting of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks at convergent continental margins: Evidences, melt compositions and physical effects

Ultrahigh-pressure（UHP） metamorphic rocks are distinctive products of crustal deep subduction,and are mainly exposed in continental subduction-collision terranes. UHP slices of continental crust are usually involved in multistage exhumation and partial melting, which has obvious influence on the rheological features of the rocks, and thus significantly affect the dynamic behavior of subducted slices. Moreover,partial melting of UHP rocks have significant influence on element mobility and related isotope behavior within continental subduction zones, which is in turn crucial to chemical differentiation of the continental crust and to crust-mantle *** melting can occur before, during or after the peak metamorphism of UHP rocks. Post-peak decompression melting has been better constrained by remelting experiments; however, because of multiple stages of decompression, retrogression and deformation, evidence of former melts in UHP rocks is often erased. Field evidence is among the most reliable criteria to infer partial melting. Glass and nanogranitoid inclusions are generally considered conclusive petrographic evidence. The residual assemblages after melt extraction are also significant to indicate partial melting in some cases. Besides field and petrographic evidence, bulk-rock and zircon trace-element geochemical features are also effective tools for recognizing partial melting of UHP rocks. Phase equilibrium modeling is an important petrological tool that is becoming more and more popular in P-T estimation of the evolution of metamorphic rocks; by taking into account the activity model of silicate melt, it can predict when partial melting occurred if the P-T path of a given rock is *** silicate melt is commonly leucogranitic and peraluminous in composition with high SiO_2,low MgO, FeO, MnO, TiO_2 and CaO, and variable K_2 O and Na_2 O contents. The use of choline in association with the Bangerter filters for the treatment of amblyopia

The study investigated the effects of choline combined with Bangerter filter in the treatment of amblyopia. All amblyopic subjects used a Bangerter filter on the corrective spectacle lens（1 d over the left eye, 1 d over the right eye）. Choline was then administered orally to 39 patients once daily, five days per week for the entire study period. Subjects treated with the Bangerter filter showed a mean visual acuity of 0.27 logM AR; at 12 mo of treatment, the mean visual acuity reached 0.09 log MAR. Patients treated with the Bangerter filter and citicoline showed a mean visual acuity of 0.35 log MAR; at 12 mo of treatment, the mean visual acuity reached 0.01 logMAR. No significant changes in the angle of deviation were observed in both groups. Subjects in both forms of amblyopia therapies demonstrated an increase in visual acuity. However, these effects were markedly enhanced when coupled with the administration of choline. Findings suggest that the effects are particularly relevant in the more severe amblyopic cases.

Although gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms(GEP-NENs)have always been considered rare tumors,their incidence has risen over the past few *** represent a highly heterogeneous group of neoplasms with several prognostic factors,including disease stage,proliferative index(Ki67),and tumor *** of these neoplasms express somatostatin receptors on the cell surface,a feature that has important implications in terms of prognosis,diagnosis,and *** International Guidelines propose algorithms aimed at guiding therapeutic strategies,GEP-NEN patients are still very different from one another,and the need for personalized treatment continues to *** surgery is always the best option when feasible;however,up to 80%of cases are metastatic upon *** medical treatments,as GEP-NENs are characterized by relatively long overall survival,multiple therapy lines are adopted during the lifetime of these patients,but the optimum sequence to be followed has never been clearly ***,although new molecular markers aimed at predicting the response to therapy,as well as prognostic scores,are currently being studied,their application is still far from being part of daily clinical *** they represent a complex disease,with therapeutic protocols that are not completely standardized,GEP-NENs require a multidisciplinary *** review will provide an overview of the available therapeutic options for GEP-NENs and attempts to clarify the possible approaches for the management of these patients and to discuss future perspectives in this field.

A wide variety of symptoms and diseases of the upper aerodigestive tract are associated to gastro-oesophageal reflux disease(GORD). These disorders comprise a large variety of conditions such as asthma, chronic otitis media and sinusitis, chronic cough, and laryngeal disorders including paroxysmal laryngospasm. Laryngopharyngeal reflux disease is an extraoesophageal variant of GORD that can affect the larynx and pharynx. Despite numerous research efforts, the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux often remains elusive,unproven and controversial, and its treatment is then still empiric. Aim of this paper is to review the current literature on upper aerodigestive tract disorders in relation to pathologic gastro-oesophageal reflux, focusing in particular on the pathophysiology base and results of the surgical treatment of GORD.

Trends in tropospheric ozone concentrations and forest impact metrics in Europe over the time period 2000–2014

In Europe,tropospheric ozone pollution appears as a major air quality issue,and ozone concentrations remain potentially harmful to *** this study we compared the trends of two ozone metrics widely used for forests protection in Europe,the AOT40(Accumulated Ozone over Threshold of 40 ppb)which only depends on surface air ozone concentrations,and the Phytotoxic Ozone Dose which is the accumulated ozone uptake through stomata over the growing season,and above a threshold Y of uptake(PODY).By using a chemistry transport model,we found that European-averaged ground-level ozone concentrations(−2%)and AOT40 metric(−26.5%)significantly declined from 2000 to 2014,due to successful control strategies to reduce the emission of ozone precursors in Europe since the early *** contrast,the stomatal ozone uptake by forests increased from 17.5 to 26.6 mmol O3 m^(−2)despite the reduction in ozone concentrations,leading to an increase of potential ozone damage on plants in *** a climate change context,a biologically-sound stomatal flux-based standard(PODY)as new European legislative standard is needed.

Feeding broiler chickens with arginine above recommended levels:effects on growth performance,metabolism,and intestinal microbiota

Background Arginine is an essential amino acid for chickens and feeding diets with arginine beyond the recommended levels has been shown to influence the growth performance of broiler chickens in a positive ***,further research is required to understand how arginine supplementation above the widely adopted dosages affects metabolism and intestinal health of ***,this study was designed to assess the effects of arginine supplementation(i.e.,total arginine to total lysine ratio of 1.20 instead of 1.06-1.08 recommended by the breeding company) on growth performance of broiler chickens and to explore its impacts on the hepatic and blood metabolic profiles,as well as on the intestinal *** this purpose,630 one-day-old male Ross 308 broiler chicks were assigned to 2 treatments(7 replicates each) fed a control diet or a crystalline L-arginine-supplemented diet for 49 *** Compared to control birds,those supplemented with arginine performed significantly better exhibiting greater final body weight at D49(3778 vs.3937 g;P < 0.001),higher growth rate(76.15 vs.79.46 g of body weight gained daily;P < 0.001),and lower cumulative feed conversion ratio(1.808 vs.1.732;P < 0.05).Plasma concentrations of arginine,betaine,histidine,and creatine were greater in supplemented birds than in their control counterparts,as were those of creatine,leucine and other essential amino acids at the hepatic *** contrast,leucine concentration was lower in the caecal content of supplemented *** alpha diversity and relative abundance of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria(specifically Escherichia coli),as well as increased abundance of Bacteroidetes and Lactobacillus salivarius were found in the caecal content of supplemented *** The improvement in growth performance corroborates the advantages of supplementing arginine in broiler *** can be hypothesized that the performance enhancement found in this study is associated with the i
