Armchair graphene nanoribbons(AGNRs)with sub-nanometer width are potential materials for the fabrication of novel nanodevices thanks to their moderate direct band *** are usually synthesized by polymerizing precursor molecules on substrate ***,it is time-consuming and not suitable for large-scale *** can also be grown by transforming precursor molecules inside single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)via furnace annealing,but the obtained AGNRs are normally *** this work,microwave heating is applied for transforming precursor molecules into *** fast heating process allows synthesizing the AGNRs in *** different molecules were successfully transformed into AGNRs,suggesting that it is a universal *** importantly,as demonstrated by Raman spectroscopy,aberrationcorrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and theoretical calculations,less twisted AGNRs are synthesized by the microwave heating than the furnace *** results reveal a route for rapid production of AGNRs in large scale,which would benefit future applications in novel AGNRs-based semiconductor devices.

Tumor angiogenesis is closely related to tumor development,immune escape,and drug ***,the development of effective anti-tumor angiogenesis drugs is of great research *** the current clinical angiogenesis inhibitors have achieved certain efficacy,they also pose the problems of limited and short duration of efficacy,drug resistance,and intrinsic ***-tumor angiogenesis strategies targeting endothelial cells(ECs)have attracted widespread attention in the development of highly effective and low toxicity anti-angiogenesis *** have verified that the trace element selenium(Se)can inhibit tumor growth by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis through different ***,it is unclear whether Se speciation has different effects on anti-tumor ***,we found that Se exhibited effective anti-angiogenic activity,and its mechanisms of activity were determined by its chemical *** Se can significantly inhibit tumor angiogenesis by targeting thioredoxin reductase(TrxR)to trigger cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest and by increasing reactive oxygen species(ROS)production in *** Se can induce cell cycle arrest and increase ROS production in ECs,showing promising anti-angiogenic *** nanoparticles(SeNPs)slightly inhibit tumor angiogenesis by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest and by increasing the production of *** summary,this study elucidates the anti-angiogenic activity of Se speciation control with a view to providing a scientific reference for the design and development of novel Se-based highly effective and low toxicity angiogenesis inhibitors.

The simultaneous photometric and spectroscopic observations of the spotted G dwarf AP149 in the young open cluster α Persei are analyzed here. We reconstruct the observed light curves with a two-starspot model by means of a light curve modeling technique, and find that the active regions shift oppositely along longitude on a time scale of one day. Combining with the observational data obtained by other groups, we discuss the evolution of spotted regions in the photosphere, and find that its starspots evolve not only on a short time scale but also on a long time scale. The pure chromospheric emissions for Ca IIHK and Hβ lines are derived by using the spectral subtraction technique. The variation of Ca IIHK lines＇ excess emission is spatially correlated to the starspot regions. There is no clear rotational modulation for the Hβ line＇s excess emission, probably due to the contamination of prominence emission.

Chronic pancreatitis is a relatively common disease. We encountered two different cases of belatedly demonstrated pancreatic carcinoma featuring underlying chronic pancreatitis. The first case was one that was highly suspected as that of a malignancy based upon imaging study, but unfortunately, it could not be confirmed by intra-operative cytology at that time. Following this, the surgeon elected to perform only conservative bypass surgery for obstructive biliary complication. Peritoneal carcinomatosis was later noted and the patient finally died. The second case, a malignant mucinous neoplasm,was falsely diagnosed as a pseudocyst, based upon the lesion's sonographic appearance and associated elevated serum amylase levels. After suffering repeated hemoptysis,the patient was found to exhibit lung metastasis and peritoneal seeding. We reviewed some of the literature,including those studies discussing chronic pancreatitis predisposing to a malignant change. These two case analyses illustrate clearly that the diagnosis for such conditions, which is simply based upon imagery or pathological considerations may end up being one of a mistaken malignancy. Some of our suggestions for the treatment of such malignancies as revealed herein include,total pancreatomy for univocal mass lesion, and needle aspiration of lesion-contained tissue for amylase, CA199and CEA levels for a suspicious cystic pancreatic mass.

Large-scale Circulation Control of the Occurrence of Low-level Turbulence at Hong Kong International Airport

This study identifies the atmospheric circulation features that are favorable for the occurrence of low-level turbulence at Hong Kong International Airport [below 1600 feet （around 500 m）]. By using LIDAR data at the airport, turbulence and nonturbulence cases are selected. It is found that the occurrence of turbulence is significantly related to the strength of the southerly wind at 850 hPa over the South china coast. On the other hand, the east-west wihd at this height demonstrates a weak relation to the occurrence. This suggests that turbulence is generated by flow passing Lantau Island from the south. The southerly wind also transports moisture from the South china Sea to Hong Kong, reducing local stability. This is favorable for the development of strong turbulence. It is also noted that the strong southerly wind during the occurrence of low-level turbulence is contributed by an anomalous zonal gradient of geopotential in the lower troposphere over the South china Sea. This gradient is caused by the combination of variations at different timescales. These are the passage of synoptic extratropical cyclones and anticyclones and the intraseasonal variation in the western North Pacific subtropical high. The seasonal variation in geopotential east of the Tibetan Plateau leads to a seasonal change in meridional wind, by which the frequency of low-level turbulence is maximized in spring and minimized in autumn.

In August 2014,the local media in Hong Kong reports a case of illegal prescription of the topical corticosteroid(CS)triamcinolone acetonide to a child with eczema by a chinese medicine(CM)practitioner.[1]The eminent CM practitioner is depicted as a"divine doctor for childbirth",and illegal prescription or sale of CS as a class I poison considered a criminal *** November 2011,another eminent CM practitioner,also known as"holy hand for eczema"was charged for causing Cushing syndrome in a number of children with eczema who had unknowingly received CS whilst receiving acupuncture therapy.[2]In 2006,a complementary and alternative medicine(CAM)practitioner was charged for processing and prescribing CS.[3]The CAM practitioner,also known as"Father of Naturopathy",allegedly discouraged patients from using legally prescribed CS for treatment of common atopic diseases.
