Higher risk of type 2 diabetes in young women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A 10-year retrospective cohort study

BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)is a common disorder in women of reproductive *** the last few decades,research studies have revealed that PCOS is strongly associated with metabolic disorders,including metabolic syndrome,obesity,insulin resistance and *** observation has shown that women with PCOS are expected to have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes(T2DM)in the *** To assess the hazard ratio(HR)of T2DM between women with/without *** This population-based,retrospective cohort study evaluated data retrieved from the National Health Insurance Research *** subjects were women with PCOS(n=2545)identified on the basis of diagnosis,testing,or treatment codes,and women without PCOS as controls(n=2545).The HR of T2DM between women with or without PCOS was the main outcome measure *** Our study found that, during a 10-year follow-up period, the overall incidence of T2DM was 6.25per 1000 person-years in the PCOS group compared with 1.49 in the control group. Afteradjustment for potential confounding variables, the overall incidence of T2DM was higher in thePCOS group vs the control group (HR = 5.13, 95%CI: 3.51-7.48, P ting a more aggressive treatment to preventdiabetes in women diagnosed with PCOS at a young age, and, in contrast, the lessened importanceof this type of intervention in women diagnosed with PCOS at a late reproductive age.

Spontaneous and continuous anti-virus disinfection from nonstoichiometric perovskite-type lanthanum manganese oxide

Viral pathogens have threatened human being’s health for a long time, from periodically breakout flu epidemics to recent rising Ebola virus disease. Herein, we report a new application of nonstoichiometric Perovskite-type LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) compounds in spontaneous and continuous disinfection of viruses. Perovskite-type LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) is well-known for their catalytic properties involving oxidization reactions, which are usually utilized as electrodes in fuel cells. By utilizing superb oxidative ability of LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9),amino acid residues in viral envelope proteins are oxidized, thus envelope proteins are denatured and infectivity of the virus is neutralized. It is of great importance that this process does not require external energy sources like light or heat. The A/PR/8/34H1N1 influenza A virus(PR8) was employed as the sample virus in our demonstration, and high-throughput disinfections were observed. The efficiency of disinfection was correlated to oxidative ability of LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) by EPR and H2-TPR results that La0.9Mn O3 had the highest oxidative ability and correspondingly gave out the best disinfecting results within three nonstoichiometric compounds. Moreover, denaturation of hemagglutinin and neuraminidase, the two key envelope proteins of influenza A viruses, was demonstrated by HA unit assay with chicken red blood cells and NA fluorescence assay, respectively. This unique disinfecting application of La0.9Mn O3 is considered as a great make up to current sterilizing methods especially to photocatalyst based disinfectants and can be widely applied to cut-off spread routes of viruses, either viral aerosol or contaminated fluid, and help in controlling the possibly upcoming epidemics like flus and hemorrhagic fever.

Analysis of the independent-and interactive-photo-thermal effects on soybean flowering

Soybean（Glycine max（L.） Merr.） is a typical short-day and warm season plant, and the interval between emergence and flowering has long been known to be regulated by environmental factors, primarily photoperiod and temperature. While the effects of photoperiod and temperature on soybean flowering have been extensively studied, a dissection of the component photo-thermal effects has not been documented for chinese germplasm. Our objective of the current study was to evaluate the independent- and interactive-photo-thermal responses of 71 cultivars from 6 ecotypes spanning the soybean production regions in china. These cultivars were subjected in pot experiments to different temperature regimes by planting in spring（low temperature（LT）） and summer（high temperature（HT））, and integrating with short day（SD, 12 h）, natural day（ND, variable day-length）, and long day（LD, 16 h） treatments over two years. The duration of the vegetative phase from emergence to first bloom（R1） was recorded, and the photo-thermal response was calculated. The outcome of this characterization led to the following conclusions：（1） There were significant differences in photo-thermal response among the different ecotypes. High-latitude ecotypes were less sensitive to the independent- and interactive-photo-thermal effects than low-latitude ecotypes; and（2） there was an interaction between photoperiod and temperature, with the effect of photoperiod on thermal sensitivity being greater under the LD than the SD condition, and with the effect of temperature on photoperiodic sensitivity being greater under the LT than the HT condition. The strengths and limitations of this study are discussed in terms of implications for current knowledge and future research directions. The study provides better understanding of photo-thermal effects on flowering in soybean genotypes from different ecotypes throughout china and of the implications for their adaptation more broadly.

Survivability assessment of spacecraft impacted by orbit debris

To help optimize the spacecraft design and reduce the risk of spacecraft mission failure, a new approach to assess the survivability of spacecraft in orbit is presented here, including the following three steps: 1)Sensitivity Analysis of spacecraft. A new sensitivity analysis method, a ray method based on virtual outer wall, is presented here. Using rays to simulate the debris cloud can effectively address the component shadowing issues. 2) Component Vulnerability analysis of spacecraft. A function "Component functional reduction degree-Component physical damage degree" is provided here to clearly describe the component functional reduction. 3) System-level Survivability Assessment of spacecraft. A new method based on expert knowledge reasoning, instead of traditional artificial failure tree method, is presented here to greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy of calculation.

One-pot scalable in situ growth of highly corrosion-resistant MgAl-LDH/MBT composite coating on magnesium alloy under mild conditions

Current corrosion-resistant layered double hydroxide(LDH)coating on Mg alloy is usually in situ grown in autoclave by hydrothermal methods under high temperature and high-pressure conditions,which is unfavorable for industrial *** report that an inhibitor(2-mercaptobenzothiazole,MBT)incorporated composite(Mg Al-LDH/MBT)coating can be in situ deposited on bare AZ31 Mg alloy surface with the assistance of a chelating agent(ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid)under a relatively low temperature(95℃)and ambient pressure by a one-pot *** successful formation of LDH/MBT composite coating is confirmed by a series of characterizations,such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).The corrosion resistance of the composite coating is evaluated by means of hydrogen evolution measurement,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),Tafel polarization curves,and neutral salt spray *** tests show that the LDH/MBT composite coating has a very low corrosion current density(1.7310^(-8)A cm^(-2)),an extremely high charge transfer resistance(2.336 M cm^(2)),and does not show any corrosion pits even after 15 d of exposure to a Na Cl solution or 7 d of exposure to salt fog environment,manifesting the good and robust corrosion ***,the deposition and corrosion protection mechanisms of the Mg Al-LDH/MBT composite coating are also discussed and proposed based on the EDS characterization of the coating after long-time exposure.

Breast cancer,a predominant global health issue,requires ongoing exploration of new therapeutic ***(PAL),a well-known cyclin-dependent kinase(CDK)inhibitor,plays a critical role in breast cancer *** its efﬁcacy is recognized,the interplay between PAL and cellular autophagy,particularly in the context of the RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway,remains insufﬁciently *** study investigates PAL’s inhibitory effects on breast cancer using both in vitro(MCF7 and MDA-MB-468 cells)and in vivo(tumor-bearing nude mice)*** at elucidating the impact of PAL on autophagic processes and exploring the potential of combining it with trametinib(TRA),an MEK inhibitor,our research seeks to address the challenge of PAL-induced drug ***ﬁndings reveal that PAL signiﬁcantly decreases the viability of MCF7 and MDA-MB-468 cells and reduces tumor size in mice while showing minimal cytotoxicity in MCF10A ***,PAL also induces protective autophagy,potentially leading to drug resistance via the RAF/MEK/ERK pathway *** TRA effectively neutralized this autophagy,enhancing PAL’s anti-tumor efﬁcacy.A combination of PAL and TRA synergistically reduced cell viability and proliferation,and in vivo studies showed notable tumor size *** conclusion,the PAL and TRA combination emerges as a promising strategy for overcoming PAL-induced resistance,offering a new horizon in breast cancer treatment.

A Framework of Work-Family Facilitation： Observations from Employees in the Financial Industry in Taiwan

This study aims to understand the work-family facilitation and its antecedents. Positive synergies from work and family domains （work-family facilitation） were examined from interviewing financial service employees （N = 15） in Taiwan. Data analysis showed：（1） resources from both work and family domains, （2） the themes of work-family facilitation, （3） the relationship between work-family facilitation and the obtained resources across domains. These findings have managerial implications for designing work-and family-relevant policies that enhance work-family facilitation to further improve employees＇ quality and functions of work and family life.
