The creation of a strong and modernized nation-state had been the objective of chinese statesmen since the Qing Empire’s defeat in the First Opium War of 1842.A modern country,one able to compete with rival powers,requires a vigorous citizenry capable of meeting the demands of its political leaders.1 Recent works by eminent historians have shed light on educational campaigns orchestrated by rulers,officials,and educators to mould ordinary chinese men and women into patriotic citizens who were able and willing to defend china when it was confronted by either internal division or external danger.

Hyperphenylalaninemia is one of the commonest inborn errors of metabolism affecting approximately 1 in 15 000 live births. Among chinese, BH4 deficiency leading to hyperphenylalaninemia is much commoner than in Caucasians. Exact diagnosis is important for the treatment and genetic counseling. In 2000, newborn screening for phenylketonuria is mandatory by law in china throughout the whole country. However, it is not yet included in the newborn screening program of the Hong kong Special Administrative Region, china. Published data on hyperphenylalaninemia among Hong kong chinese are largely lacking. We report a 1-year-old Hong kong chinese girl with severe 6-pyruvoyl-tetrahydropterin synthase （PTPS） deficiency. The patient presented with infantile hypotonia and was misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy. She had very mild hyperphenylalaninemia （95 IJmol/L）, significantly high phenylalnine-to-tyrosine ratio （3.1）, and ele~,ated prolactin of 1109 m lU/L. Genetic analysis confirmed a homozygous known disease-causing mutation PTS NM_000317.1： c.259C〉T; NP_000308.1： p.P87S in the proband. In our local experience, while the estimated prevalence of hyperphenylalaninemia due to PTPS deficiency was reported to be 1 in 29 542 live births, not a single case of phenylalanine hydroxylase deficiency has been reported. Furthermore, there is a general lack of awareness of inherited metabolic diseases in the community as well as among the medical professionals. Very often, a low index of clinical suspicion will lead to delay in diagnosis, multiple unnecessary and costly investigations, prolonged morbidity and anxiety to the family affected. We strongly recommend that expanded newborn screening for hyperphenylalaninemia should be implemented for every baby born in the Hong kong Special Administrative Region, china.

Background Data of classical inborn errors of metabolism （IEM） of amino acids, organic acids and fatty acid oxidation are largely lacking in Hong kong, where mass spectrometry-based expanded newborn screening for IEM has not been initiated. The current study aimed to evaluate the approximate incidence, spectrum and other characteristics of classical IEM in Hong kong, which would be important in developing an expanded newborn screening program for the local area.

The effective construction of electromagnetic(EM)wave absorption materials with thin matching thickness,broad bandwidth,and remarkable absorption is a great solution to EM pollution,which is a hot topic in current environmental *** this study,N-doped reduced graphene oxide(N-rGO)was first prepared using a facile hydrothermal ***,high-purity 1T-MoS_(2)petals were homogeneously anchored to the wrinkled surface of N-rGO to fabricate 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO *** numerous electric di-poles and profuse heterointerfaces in 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO would induced the multiple reflection and scattering of EM waves in a distinct-ive multidimensional structure formed by two-dimensional N-rGO and 1T-MoS_(2)microspheres with plentiful thin nanosheets,remarkable conduction loss derived from the migration of massive electrons in a well-constructed conductive network formed by 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO,and abundant polarization loss(including dipolar polarization loss and interfacial polarization loss).All of these gave the 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO nanocomposites superior EM wave absorption *** effective absorption bandwidth of 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO reached 6.48 GHz with a relatively thin matching thickness of 1.84 mm,and a minimum reflection loss of-52.24 dB was achieved at 3.84 ***,the radar scattering cross-section reduction value of 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO was up to 35.42 dB·m^(2) at 0°,which further verified the huge potential of our fabricated 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO nanocomposites in practical applications.

Utilizing a range of techniques including multi-band light curves,softness ratio analysis,structure functions,rms spectra,cross-correlation functions,and ratios of spectra from different intervals,we present a comprehensive study of the complex X-ray spectral variability in Seyfert 1 galaxy Ark 120,through re-analyzing its six XMM-Newton observations taken between 2003 and *** find a clear“softer-when-brighter”trend in the 2–10 ke V power-law component over long timescales,with this trend being timescale dependent,as it is much weaker on shorter timescales,similar to that previously detected in NGC ***,a rare“harder-when-brighter”trend is observed during one exposure,indicating dynamic changes in the spectral variability behavior of the power-law *** exceptional exposure,with the spectral variability indeed marked by a power-law pivoting at an unusually low energy of～2 ke V,suggests intricate variations in the thermal Comptonization processes within the ***,when the data below 2 ke V are included,we identify that the soft excess component adds significant complexity to the spectral variability,such as evidenced by a transition from“harder-when-brighter”to“softer-when-brighter”during another single *** extra complexity arises because the variability of the soft excess sometimes follows and sometimes does not follow the changes in the power-law *** findings underscore the necessity of applying multiple analytic techniques to fully capture the multifaceted spectral variability of AGNs.

Large-scale Language Models(LLMs)have achieved significant breakthroughs in Natural Language Processing(NLP),driven by the pre-training and fine-tuning *** this approach allows models to specialize in specific tasks with reduced training costs,the substantial memory requirements during fine-tuning present a barrier to broader ***-Efficient Fine-Tuning(PEFT)techniques,such as Low-Rank Adaptation(LoRA),and parameter quantization methods have emerged as solutions to address these challenges by optimizing memory usage and computational *** these,QLoRA,which combines PEFT and quantization,has demonstrated notable success in reducing memory footprints during fine-tuning,prompting the development of various QLoRA *** these advancements,the quantitative impact of key variables on the fine-tuning performance of quantized LLMs remains *** study presents a comprehensive analysis of these key variables,focusing on their influence across different layer types and depths within LLM *** investigation uncovers several critical findings:(1)Larger layers,such as MLP layers,can maintain performance despite reductions in adapter rank,while smaller layers,like self-attention layers,aremore sensitive to such changes;(2)The effectiveness of balancing factors depends more on specific values rather than layer type or depth;(3)In quantization-aware fine-tuning,larger layers can effectively utilize smaller adapters,whereas smaller layers struggle to do *** insights suggest that layer type is a more significant determinant of fine-tuning success than layer depth when optimizing quantized ***,for the same discount of trainable parameters,reducing the trainable parameters in a larger layer is more effective in preserving fine-tuning accuracy than in a smaller *** study provides valuable guidance for more efficient fine-tuning strategies and opens avenues for further research into optimizing LLM
