Hair growth-promotion effects and antioxidant activity of the banana flower extract HappyAngel^(■):double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Banana flowers contain various bioactive components, including several antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects. However, it is unclear whether they can reduce and prevent hair loss. This study examines the effect of banana flower extracts on preventing hair loss and strengthening hair roots. The banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))was used to treat human hair follicle dermal papilla cells(HFDPCs)and the expression of reactive oxygen species(ROS), dihydrotestosterone(DHT), and hair-related genes(SRD5A1, SRD5A2, AR, and KROX20)were monitored. Fifty subjects were divided into a placebo group and a banana flower group. The experimental group consumed banana flower extract daily for twelve weeks and then underwent hair testing, hair-related genes analysis, collection of hair loss, and questionnaires. The results showed that the banana flower extract significantly increased hair cell growth and decreased the expression of ROS, DHT, and hair follicle growth inhibition-related SRD5A1, SRD5A2, and AR genes, and significantly increased the expression of hair growth-related KROX20 gene in HFDPCs. Consuming banana flower extract for twelve weeks increased the hair root diameter and reduced hair loss and scalp redness compared to the placebo group. Thus, banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))can stimulate hair growth and inhibit the activation of hair loss genes.

In recent years, studies on evaluation of the therapeutic and toxic activity of herbal medicinal products became available and popular. The advances in modern biotechnology have led to discovery of many new active constituents. However, it is a constant challenge to establish the pharmacological basis for efficacy and safety of herbal medicinal products. A better understanding of the effects and bioavailability of phytopharmaceuticals can help in discovering suitable and rational therapies. In this review, we present the bioavailability studies in immune system that has been conducted for some of the more important or widely used phytopharmaceuticals. furthermore, various new drug targets worthy of using for drug development in immunomodulating herbal medicine area and their regulatory mechanisms are also discussed. Adverse effects, drug interactions, and contraindications are also discussed which show that caution should be exercised when combining phytopharmaceuticals with chemically derived pharmaceutical components. The Immune Response Induced by Hepatitis B Virus Principal Antigens

Hepatitis B virus （HBV） infection occurs primarily in hepatocytes in the liver with release of infectious virions and non-infectious empty surface antigen particles into the bloodstream. HBV replication is non-cytopathic. Transient infections run a course of several months, and chronic infections are often life-long. Chronic infections can lead to liver failure with cirrhosis and hepatocellniar carcinoma. It is generally accepted that neutralizing anti-HBs antibodies plays a key role in recovery from HBV infection by containing the spread of infection in the infected host and facilitating the removal and destruction of viral particles. However, the immune response initiated by the T-cell response to viral antigens is also important for viral clearance and disease pathogenesis in HBV infection. The three structural forms of the viral proteins, the HBsAg, the particulate HBcAg, and the nonparticulate HBeAg, may preferentially elicit different Th cell subsets. The different IgG subclass profiles of anti-HBs, anti-HBc, and anti-HBe in different HBV infection status were revealed. Moreover, the different IgG subclass profiles in chronic carriers did not change with different ALT and AST levels and may reflect the difference between stimulating antigens, immune response, and the stages of viral disease and provide the basis for the use of vaccines and prophylactic treatments for individuals at high risk of human HBV infection. This review elucidates the detailed understanding of the immune responses induced during transient and persistent infection, and the development of immunotherapy and immunodiagnosis in patients with HBV infection, and possible means of reducing the liver damage.

Covalent edge-functionalization of graphene oxide with porphyrins for highly efficient photoinduced electron/energy transfer and enhanced nonlinear optical performance

Covalent modification of graphene oxide(GO)with functional chromophores plays an important role in constructing various kinds of advanced optoelectronic materials for applications in molecular diagnosis,light-harvesting,photodynamic therapy,and optical limiting.Herein,a new approach to functionalizing GO with meso-substituted formylporphyrins at GO’s edge sites via imidazole condensation is developed,which affords a novel GO-imi-Por nanohybrid covalently-linked by imidazole rings between two components.The structure of the GO-imi-Por nanohybrid was thoroughly characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR),Raman,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The red-shifted steady-state absorption,95%quenched fluorescence,and largely enhanced nonlinear optical(NLO)properties through Z-scan studies at lower input energies demonstrate that this GO-imi-Por nanohybrid exhibits a more effective photoinduced energy/electron transfer between the intrahybrid two components and can be flexibly applied as an optical limiter candidate.This covalent edge-functionalization approach provides a new paradigm for constructing various edge-expanding GO nanohybrids with an efficient energy/electron transfer process and improved nonlinear optical effects,which would draw inspiration for engineering more adaptable optoelectronic devices.

Significant annealing-induced hardening effect in nanolaminate d-nanotwinne d(CrCoNi)_(97.4)Al_(0.8)Ti_(1.8)me dium-entropy alloy by severe cold rolling

Due to the easy coarsening caused by poor thermal stability,the verified annealing-induced hardening in nanograined metals can only maintain at a relatively low-temperature range.In this study,a nanolam-inated(CrCoNi)_(97.4)Al_(0.8)Ti_(1.8)medium-entropy alloy with an average lamellae thickness of∼20 nm embedded by thinner nanotwins was fabricated by severe cold rolling to achieve superior thermal stability.Compared with the conventional nanotwinned CrCoNi with nanotwins inside ultra-fined grains,the hier-archical nanolaminated-nanotwinned(CrCoNi)97.4 Al 0.8 Ti 1.8 exhibits a significant annealing-induced hard-ening effect,i.e.,hardness increasing from∼250 HV in the original specimen to∼500 HV in the cold-rolled status and finally∼630 HV after annealing at 600℃for 1 h.Detailed microstructure characterizations reveal that the reduced dislocation density and formation of L1_(2)ordered domain are mainly responsible for such hardening effect,which is facilitated by the effectively suppressed coarsening with annealing temperature,i.e.,slow detwinning process and well-retained low-angle nanolamellar structure.The coarsening mechanisms from the cold-rolled nanolamellae to the fully recrystallized micro-equiaxed structures under the annealing temperatures ranging from 400 to 800℃were also elucidated by atomic observations.

Self-powered Internet of Things sensing node based on triboelectric nanogenerator for sustainable environmental monitoring

The myriad sensing nodes in the Internet of Things(IoT)are mainly powered by battery,which has limited the lifespan and increased the maintenance costs.Herein,a self-powered IoT sensing node based on triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG)is proposed for the sustainable environmental monitoring.The wind powered TENG(W-TENG)is adopted in freestanding mode with the rabbit hair and six pairs of finger electrodes.With the energy management module,the weak electrical energy from WTENG can be converted into a stable direct current(DC)2.5 V voltage for the operation of the IoT sensing node.When the storage energy exceeds 4.4 V,the node can be activated,then the microprogrammed control unit(MCU)transmits the monitoring data.Thereafter,the monitoring data will be identified and relayed to the IoT cloud platform by narrowband IoT(NBIoT)module.At a wind speed of 8.4 m/s,the node can realize the wireless monitoring and data transmission for temperature and atmosphere pressure every 30 s.This work has provided a universal strategy for sustainable IoT sensing nodes powered by environmental micro-nano mechanical energy and exhibited potential applications in IoT,big data,and environmental monitoring.

Tribotronics: an emerging field by coupling triboelectricity and semiconductors

Tribotronics is an emerging research field that focuses on the coupling of triboelectricity and semiconductors.In this review,we summarise and explore three branches of tribotronics.Firstly,we introduce the tribovoltaic effect,which involves direct-current power generation through mechanical friction on semiconductor interfaces.This effect offers significant advantages in terms of high power density compared to traditional insulator-based triboelectric nanogenerators.Secondly,we elaborate on triboelectric modulation,which utilises the triboelectric potential on field-effect transistors.This approach enables active mechanosensation and nanoscale tactile perception.Additionally,we present triboelectric management,which aims to improve energy supply efficiency using semiconductor device technology.This strategy provides an effective microenergy solution for sensors and microsystems.For the interactions between triboelectricity and semiconductors,the research of tribotronics has exhibited the electronics of interfacial friction systems,and the triboelectric technology by electronics.This review demonstrates the promising prospects of tribotronics in the development of new functional devices and self-powered microsystems for intelligent manufacturing,robotic sensing,and the industrial Internet of Things.

本文利用2015年11月11日江西省赣州市一次降水前期层状云的DMT资料,结合雷达数据,综合分析了在高空槽影响下云系的宏微观结构特征。结果表明:(1)探测属于降水前期,云系呈多层分布。(2)层状云系在水平和垂直方向存在不均匀性,0°C层上下满足播种云-供应云机制。0°C层以上为播种云,凝华,粘连增长占主要过程。0°C层以下的暖层为供应云,粒子在液态水含量丰富的供应云体中长大,冰晶的融化聚并过程使得有效直径显著增大。下降到4150m的高度,冰晶完全融化变为雨滴。
