Role of gastric oxidative stress and nitric oxide in formation of hemorrhagic erosion in rats with ischemic brain

AIM： To investigate the role of gastric oxidative stress and nitric oxide （NO） in the formation of gastric hemorrhagic erosion and their protection by drugs in rats with ischemic brain. METHODS： Male Wistar rats were deprived of food for 24 h. Under chloral hydrate （300 mg/kg） anesthesia, bilateral carotid artery ligation was performed. The pylorus and carotid esophagus of the rats were also ligated. The stomachs were then irrigated for 3 h with either normal saline or simulated gastric juice containing 100 mmol/L HCI plus 17.4 mmol/L pepsin and 54 mmol/L NaCI. Rats were killed and stomachs were dissected. Gastric mucosa and gastric contents were harvested. The rat brain was dissected for the examination of ischemia by triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining method. Changes in gastric ulcerogenic parameters, such as decreased mucosal glutathione level as well as enhanced gastric acid back-diffusion, mucosal lipid peroxide generation, histamine concentration, luminal hemoglobin content and mucosal erosion in gastric samples, were measured. RESULTS： Bilateral carotid artery ligation produced severe brain ischemia （BI） in rats. An exacerbation of various ulcerogenic parameters and mucosal hemorrhagic erosions were observed in these rats. The exacerbated ulcerogenic parameters were significantly （P〈 0.05） attenuated by antioxidants, such as exogenous glutathione and allopurinol. These gastric parameters were also improved by intraperitoneal aminoguanidine （100 mg/kg） but were aggravated by N^G-nitro-L-argininemethyl ester （L-NAME： 25 mg/kg）. Intraperitoneal L-arginine （0-500 mg/kg） dose-dependently attenuated BI-induced aggravation of ulcerogenic parameters and hemorrhagic erosions that were reversed by L-NAME. CONCLUSION： BI could produce hemorrhagic erosions through gastric oxidative stress and activation of arginine-nitric oxide pathway.

The object of the research is to compare the model performance and explain the error source of original logistic regression landslide susceptibility model(abbreviated as or-LRLSM) and landslide ratio-based logistic regression landslide susceptibility model(abbreviated as lr-LRLSM) in the chishan watershed with a serious landslide disaster after 2009 Typhoon Morakot. The landslide inventory induced by 2009 Typhoon Morakot in South Taiwan is the main research material, while the chishan watershed is the research area. Six variables, including elevation, slope, aspect, geological formation, accumulated rainfall, and bank erosion, were included in the two models. The performance of lr-LRLSM is better than that of or-LRLSM. The Cox & Snell R2, Nagelkerke R2 value, and the area under the relative operating characteristic curve(abbreviated as AUC) of lrLRLSM is larger than those of or-LRLSM, and the average correct ratio for the lr-LRLSM to predict landslide or non-landslide is larger than that of orLRLSM by 5.0%. The increase of the average correct ratio(abbreviated as ACR) difference from or-LRLSM to lr-LRLSM shows in slope, revised accumulated rainfall, aspect, geological formation and bank erosion variables, and only light decreases in elevation variable. The error sources of continuous variables in building the or-LRLSM is the dissimilarity between the distribution of landslide ratio and production of coefficient and characteristic values, while those of categorical variables is due to low correlation of landslide ratio and the coefficient value of each parameter. Using the classification of landslide ratio as the database to build logistic regression landslide susceptibility model(abbreviated as LRLSM) can revise the errors. The comparison of or-LRLSM and lr-LRLSM in the chishan watershed also shows that building the landslide susceptibility model(abbreviated as LSM) by using lr-LRLSM is practical and of better performance than that by using the or-LRLSM.

AIM： To evaluate the protective effect of lysozyme chloride on betel quid chewing （BQC） aggravated gastric oxidative stress and hemorrhagic ulcer in rats with diabetes mellitus （DM）. METHODS： Male Wistar rats were challenged intravenously with streptozotocin （65 mg/kg） to induce DM. Rats were fed with regular pellet food or BQC-containing diets. Afcer 90 d, rats were deprived of food for 24 h. Rat stomachs were irrigated for 3 h with normal saline or simulated gastric juice. Rats were killed and gastric specimens were harvested. RESULTS： An enhancement of various gastric ulcerogenic parameters, including acid back-diffusion, mucosal lipid peroxide generation, as well as decreased glutathione levels and mucus content, were observed in DM rats. Afcer feeding DM rats with BQC, an exacerbation of these ulcerogenic parameters was achieved. Gastric juice caused a further aggravation of these ulcerogenic parameters. Daily intragastric lysozyme chloride dose-dependently inhibited exacerbation of various ulcerogenic parameters in those BQC-fed DM rats. CONCLUSION：（1） Gastric juice could aggravate both DM and BQC-fed DM rat hemorrhagic ulcer; （2） BQC exacerbated gastric hemorrhagic ulcer in DM rats via enhancing oxidative stress and reducing defensive factors; （3） lysozyme chloride effectively protected BQC aggravated gastric damage in DM rats.

Reperfusion therapy is the preferred treatment for ischemic stroke,but is hindered by its short treatment window,especially in patients with diabetes whose reperfusion after prolonged ischemia is often accompanied by exacerbated *** mechanisms underlying exacerbated hemorrhage are not fully *** study aimed to identify this mechanism by inducing prolonged 2-hour transient intraluminal middle cerebral artery occlusion in diabetic Ins2Akita/+mice to mimic patients with diabetes undergoing delayed mechanical *** results showed that at as early as 2 hours after reperfusion,Ins2Akita/+mice exhibited rapid development of neurological deficits,increased infarct and hemorrhagic transformation,together with exacerbated down-regulation of tight-junction protein ZO-1 and upregulation of blood-brain barrier-disrupting matrix metallopeptidase 2 and matrix metallopeptidase 9 when compared with normoglycemic Ins2+/+*** indicated that diabetes led to the rapid compromise of vessel integrity immediately after reperfusion,and consequently earlier death and further aggravation of hemorrhagic transformation 22 hours after *** observation was associated with earlier and stronger up-regulation of pro-angiogenic vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and its downstream phospho-Erk1/2 at 2 hours after reperfusion,which was suggestive of premature angiogenesis induced by early VEGF up-regulation,resulting in rapid vessel disintegration in diabetic *** reticulum stress-related pro-apoptotic C/EBP homologous protein was overexpressed in challenged Ins2Akita/+mice,which suggests that the exacerbated VEGF up-regulation may be caused by overwhelming endoplasmic reticulum stress under diabetic *** conclusion,the results mimicked complications in patients with diabetes undergoing delayed mechanical thrombectomy,and diabetes-induced accelerated VEGF up-regulation is likely to underlie exacerbated hemorrhagic transformat

In today’s fast-challenging business environment,automobile manufacturers are required to supply customers with high-quality vehicles at competitive ***,existing research on factors influencing service quality lacks a detailed and systematic understanding,and there is no consensus study on causal relationship and measuring the weights of service quality factors in the automotive manufacturing *** study provides an integrated technique for evaluating the automotive service quality in the context of VinFast-the Vietnamese leading ***,the Grey Theory System(GTS)is utilized to estimate the subjective views of the decision maker(DM)and overcome incomplete and vague decision ***,a Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory approach integrated with GTS(Grey-DEMATEL)is proposed not only to define the cause-effect factors but also to quantify the causal relationship of proposed criteria,which is based on comprehensive analyses of the current service quality literature and experts’opinions,as well as to capture the criteria *** results show that the weights of main criteria can be sorted as follow:Tangibility>Reliability>Assurance>Pricing>Empathy>*** the proposed sub-criteria,Pricing is the top concern compared to other dimensions,making it a prerequisite for *** causal relationships of VinFast’s service quality are discovered by the Grey-DEMATEL *** findings also indicated a rising need for VinFast to focus on ***,the proposed model might be used as a decision support tool to contribute to the literature on service quality,provide recommendations for future study,and assist managers in improving service qualitymore efficiently.

Gender, Intra-Household Dynamics, and Household Hurricane Preparedness: An Exploratory Study Employing a Dyadic Interview Approach

This exploratory study targets married, heterosexual couples living in Sarasota County, Florida and uses a dyadic interview approach to understand how the interactions of married couples, or intra-household dynamics,could affect household hurricane preparedness. Interview results reveal that couples consider household hurricane preparedness to be a joint process between husband and wife, but in many cases, partners do not have the same opinions about these preparations. This study also shows the relations between household hurricane preparedness and household division of labor, and how the tendency of wives to prioritize relational preparedness activities could be an answer to understanding why some quantitative studies show that females have lower preparedness levels than males. Other potential problems with this previous research, including the selection of survey participants and the measurement of household hurricane preparedness, are likewise discussed.

Copper nanoparticle was synthesized in the presence of heptadecafluorononanoic acid by the conventional solution immersion method at room temperature from the copper plate, as a resource material. The bulk etching rate was calculated by the weight loss method. The pale green colored Cu-HDFN was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and contact angle measurements and the results are critically analyzed.
