Palliative care service in patients with childhood cancer from a tertiary pediatric oncology center

Importance: Pediatric palliative care (PPC) has gained great attention in western countries, however data on Hong kong children receiving PPC are limited. There are gaps in knowledge about the PPC needs in local children with cancer. Objective: To assess the current situation of PPC service of Hong kong children with cancer. Methods: We performed a 10-year retrospective review in a tertiary pediatric oncology unit and studied the referral pattern, clinical characteristics and services provided. results: Totally 117 children were referred to PPC Team which constituted 65% deceased children within the study period. The commonest diagnoses were central nervous system tumour (32.5%), leukaemia (25.6%) and neuroblastoma (9.4%). Ninety-one percent of children were referred after the last relapse or stopping curative treatment. The median time of referral to death was 77 days (interquartile range (IQR): 35, 182)The median number of hospital admission after referral was 2 (IQR: 1, 5), with a median of 27 days total hospital stay (IQR: 10, 60). The reasons for admission were palliative chemotherapy (16.1%), pain control (12.1%) and platelet transfusion (11.2%). For the death episode, the median duration of hospital stay was 15 days (IQR: 2, 46). Most patients received oxygen (82.0%), intravenous fluid (81.2%) and intravenous analgesic (52.1%). A total of 111 (94.9%) children died in hospital, 15 had been admitted into intensive care unit (ICU) but only 5 (4.5%) died in ICU. Interpretation: Pain control and platelet transfusion were common reasons of readmission. Death in ICU and at home was uncommon in Hong kong situation.

Planar Na ion micro-supercapacitors(NIMSCs) that offer both high energy density and power density are deemed to a promising class of miniaturized power sources for wearable and portable microelectron-ics. Nevertheless, the development of NIMSCs are hugely impeded by the low capacity and sluggish Na ion kinetics in the negative ***, we demonstrate a novel carbon-coated Nb_(2)O_5 microflower with a hierarchical structure composed of vertically intercrossed and porous nanosheets, boosting Na ion storage performance. The unique structural merits, including uniform carbon coating, ultrathin nanosheets and abun-dant pores, endow the Nb_(2)O_5 microflower with highly reversible Na ion storage capacity of 245 mAh g^(-1) at 0.25 C and excellent rate *** from high capacity and fast charging of Nb_(2)O_5 microflower, the planar NIMSCs consisted of Nb_(2)O_5 negative electrode and activated car-bon positive electrode deliver high areal energy density of 60.7 μWh cm^(-2),considerable voltage window of 3.5 V and extraordinary cyclability. Therefore, this work exploits a structural design strategy towards electrode materials for application in NIMSCs, holding great promise for flexible microelectronics.

Bread wheat(Triticum aestivum)is a staple food crop *** genetic dissection of important nutrient traits is essential for the biofortification of wheat to meet the nutritional needs of the world's growing ***,45,298 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)from 55K chip arrays were used to genotype a panel of 768 wheat cultivars,and a total of 154 quantitative trait loci(QTLs)were detected for eight traits under three environments by genome-wide association study(GWAS).Three QTLs(qMn-3B.1,qFe-3B.4,and qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6)detected repeatedly under different environments or traits were subjected to subsequent analyses based on linkage disequilibrium decay and the P-values of significant *** SNPs in the three QTL regions formed six haplotypes for qMn-3B.1,three haplotypes for qFe-3B.4,and three haplotypes for qSe-3B.1/*** analysis revealed significant differences among *** results indicated that the concentrations of several nutrient elements have been modified during the domestication of landraces to modern *** on the QTL regions,we identified 15 high-confidence genes,eight of which were stably expressed in different tissues and/or developmental ***3B02G046100 in qMn-3B.1 and TraesCS3B02G199500 in qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6 were both inferred to interact with metal ions according to the Gene Ontology(GO)***3B02G199000,which belongs to qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6,was determined to be a member of the WRKY gene ***,this study provides several reliable QTLs that may significantly affect the concentrations of nutrient elements in wheat grain,and this information will facilitate the breeding of wheat cultivars with improved grain properties.

Tracking the dynamic surface evolution of metal halide perovskite is crucial for understanding the corresponding fundamental principles of photoelectric properties and intrinsic instability. However, due to the volatility elements and soft lattice nature of perovskites, several important dynamic behaviors remain unclear. Here, an ultra-high vacuum（UHV） interconnection system integrated by surface-sensitive probing techniques has been developed to investigate the freshly cleaved surface of CH3NH3PbBr3in situ under given energy stimulation. On this basis, the detailed three-step chemical decomposition pathway of perovskites has been clarified. Meanwhile, the evolution of crystal structure from cubic phase to tetragonal phase on the perovskite surface has been revealed under energy stimulation. Accompanied by chemical composition and crystal structure evolution, electronic structure changes including energy level position,hole effective mass, and Rashba splitting have also been accurately determined. These findings provide a clear perspective on the physical origin of optoelectronic properties and the decomposition mechanism of perovskites.

Background:Acute suppurative terminal cholangitis(ASTC)is rarer than acute obstructive cholangitis and is not well *** explore this subtype of acute cholangitis,we described our clinical experience with ***:We performed a retrospective review of patients with ASTC admitted to our center from September 2014 to August *** analyzed their clinical characteristics,including etiology,clinical manifestations,imaging features,treatment and ***:A total of 32 ASTC patients were included in the *** majority of the patients had a history of biliary operations,and clinical manifestations were occult and *** positive rate of bacterial culture was 46.9%.All the patients had typical imaging features on computed tomography and magnetic resonance *** with effective antibiotics was provided as soon as diagnosis was *** treatment,most patients had a good *** levels of total bilirubin,aspartate aminotransferase,procalcitonin and gamma-glutamyltransferase were the characteristics of critically ill patients and were associated with relatively poor ***:Our results demonstrated that ASTC should be recognized as a new subtype of acute cholangitis,and that earlier diagnosis and more personalized treatments are needed.

This paper studies the target controllability of multilayer complex networked systems,in which the nodes are highdimensional linear time invariant(LTI)dynamical systems,and the network topology is directed and *** influence of inter-layer couplings on the target controllability of multi-layer networks is *** is found that even if there exists a layer which is not target controllable,the entire multi-layer network can still be target controllable due to the inter-layer *** the multi-layer networks with general structure,a necessary and sufficient condition for target controllability is given by establishing the relationship between uncontrollable subspace and output *** the derived condition,it can be found that the system may be target controllable even if it is not state *** this basis,two corollaries are derived,which clarify the relationship between target controllability,state controllability and output *** the multi-layer networks where the inter-layer couplings are directed chains and directed stars,sufficient conditions for target controllability of networked systems are given,*** conditions are easier to verify than the classic criterion.
