Endometriosis is a common and benign angiogenesisdependent gynecological disorder,which refers to the proliferation and growth of endometrium-like tissues with neovasculature formation outside of the uterus.1 Available medical treatments for endometriosis containing hormonal and non-hormonal treatments had been limited for longterm usage by their side effects.2 Ideal medical treatment for endometriosis with efficacy to relieve symptoms and suppress endometriotic lesion growth and minimal side effects has been longing for decades.3 Angiogenesis is a promising therapeutic target for endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a common chronic gynecological disease with endometrial cell implantation outside the *** is a major pathophysiology in *** previous studies have demonstrated that the prodrug of epigallocatechin gallate(ProEGCG)exhibits superior anti-endometriotic and anti-angiogenic effects compared to epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG).However,their direct binding targets and underlying mechanisms for the differential effects remain *** this study,we demonstrated that oral ProEGCG can be effective in preventing and treating ***,1D and 2D Proteome Integral Solubility Alteration assay-based chemical proteomics identified metadherin(MTDH)and PX domain containing serine/threonine kinase-like(PXK)as novel binding targets of EGCG and ProEGCG,*** simulation and BioLayer interferometry were used to confirm their binding *** results showed that MTDH-EGCG inhibited protein kinase B(Akt)-mediated angiogenesis,while PXK-ProEGCG inhibited epidermal growth factor(EGF)-mediated angiogenesis via the EGF/hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF-1a)/vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)*** vitro and in vivo knockdown assays and microvascular network imaging further confirmed the involvement of these signaling ***,our study demonstrated that ProEGCG has superior therapeutic effects than EGCG by targeting distinct signal transduction pathways and may act as a novel antiangiogenic therapy for endometriosis.

Objective:To report the clinical maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnant women with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),along with any associated pregnancy complications,in Hong Kong,china,and to assess the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on these ***:This prospective registry-based observational study included pregnant women who were recruited through convenient sampling and had a laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection with a cycle threshold(Ct)value result available on admission to eight local hospitals in Hong Kong,*** on clinical symptoms,laboratory results,medical treatments,delivery timing and mode,and pregnancy complications were extracted from the Hospital Authority’s electronic medical record ***,fetal,and pregnancy outcomes were compared between unvaccinated pregnant women with COVID-19 and those who had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine before *** continuous variables and categorical variables were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Pearson’s chi-squared test respectively.A P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically ***:A total of 164 pregnant women were included,of whom 78(47.56%)were ***-19 was diagnosed before 28 weeks’gestation in 30(18.29%),while 134(81.71%)were diagnosed at or after 28 weeks’***-two(37.80%)women received at least one dose of COVID-19 *** were no significant differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups in the time interval between COVID-19 diagnosis and delivery,the Ct value,and the gestational age at infection onset or delivery(P>0.05).The majority of women were symptomatic at diagnosis regardless of vaccination status 55(88.71%)in vaccinated group vs.78(76.47%)in unvaccinated group(P=0.052).Symptoms did not significantly differ between groups except for cough(62.90%vs.47.06%,P=0.049).The overall rate of severe COVID-19 in pregnant women was *** t

In this study,we used a network meta-analysis(NMA)to compare the effectiveness of medicines and supplements for idiopathic male infertility and to identify the best ***,Excerpta Medica Database(EMBASE),Ovid,and china National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),were searched for the period from January 1990 to June 2021 using the keywords"male infertility,""medical therapy,""supplement/nutrient therapy,"and related *** controlled trials(RCTs)investigating medicines(mainly follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),androgen,and clomiphene/tamoxifen)or supplements(mainly zinc,selenium,vitamin C or E,carnitine,coenzyme Q10(CoQ10),or combined treatment)for idiopathic infertile men were selected for *** reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis(PRISMA)was used for data extraction,and a risk-of-bias tool and grades of recommendation,assessment,development,and evaluation(GRADE)system adapted to the NMA were employed to assess the quality of the *** primary outcomes were live birth and spontaneous pregnancy rate(SPR).The secondary outcomes were sperm parameters(including concentration,progressive motility,and morphology)and side *** total,65 RCTs involving 7541 men with sperm abnormalities but normal hormone levels were included.A total of 36 studies reported SPR but only three reported live birth *** quality of the included studies was found to be moderate to *** with a placebo or being untreated,carnitine plus vitamins significantly improved SPR(relative risk(RR)=3.7,95%confidence interval(95%CI),1.6-8.5);fatty acids significantly increased sperm concentrations(mean difference(MD)=12.5×10^(6)mL-1,95%CI,3.1×10^(6)-22.0×10^(6));and selective estrogen receptor modulator(SERM)plus CoQ10 significantly improved sperm progressive motility(MD=11.0%,95%CI,0.1%-21.9%)and normal sperm morphology(MD=11.0%,95%CI,4.6%-17.4%).The most optimal intervention was carnitine plus vitamins and fatty acids for SPR a

This study aimed to report the outcomes of active surveillance(AS)in the management of low-risk prostate cancer(PCa).It recruited87 men who were prospectively followed up according to the Prostate Cancer Research International Active Surveillance(PRIAS)protocol with local adaptation at SH Ho Urology Centre,Prince of Wales Hospital,Hong Kong,*** investigated the predictorsof disease progression and found that baseline prostate-specific antigen density(PSAD)and the presence of the highest ProstateImaging-Reporting and Data System(PI-RADS)score 5 lesion on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)are significantly correlatedwith disease ***,men with PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)or PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions had significantly worse upgradingfree survival compared to those with PSAD≤0.2 ng ml−2 and PI-RADS 2 or 3 *** study concludes that AS is a safe andeffective management strategy for selected patients to defer radical treatment and that most disease progression can be detectedafter the first repeated *** combination of PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)and PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions may serve as a useful predictorof early disease progression and provide a guide to optimize follow-up protocols for men in different risk groups.

Aim： To determine the possible roles of the t-complex testis expressed gene 5 （Tctex5） on sperm functions, the fulllength sequence of mRNA was studied and compared in the testis between the normal wild-type and the sterile t-haplotype mutant mice. Methods： We applied rapid amplification of cDNA ends, Northern blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction to analyze the full length of Tctex5 mRNAs isolated from testes of the wild-type and the t-haplotype mice. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to semi-quantitatively compare expression of Tctex5 transcripts in the 16 tissues and 9.5 day stage embryos in the wild-type mice. E-translation was applied to estimate the amino acid sequences. Results： One long and one short transcript of Tctex5 mRNA were discovered in mouse testis of wild-type （Tctex5^long-＋ and Tctex5^short-＋） and t-haplotype （Tctex5^long-＋ and Tctex5^short-＋） mice, respectively. Being enhanced only in the testis, Tctex5^long-＋ had 17 point mutations and one 15-bp-deletion in the exon 1 region, comparing with the Tctex5^long-＋, whereas the Tctex5^short-＋ was similar to the Tctex5^short-＋. The short isoforms of Tctex5 mRNAs in the two models encoded exactly the same peptides, but the long isoforms did not. The estimated peptide encoded by Tctex5^long-＋ had significant mutations on putative sites of phosphorylation and PP1 binding. Conclusion： We established that mutations that occur in the Tctex5 long transcript of the t-haplotype mice are important for normal sperm function, whereas the short transcript of Tctex5 might have a conserved function among different tissues. （Asian J Androl 2008 Mar; 10： 219-226）

Threatened miscarriage is the commonest complication of early pregnancy and affects about 20% of pregnancies. It presents with vaginal bleeding with or without abdominal cramps. Increasing age of women, smoking, obesity or polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) and a previous history of miscarriage are risk factors for threatened miscarriage. The pathophysiology has been associated with changes in levels of cytokines or maternal immune dysfunction. Clinical history and examination, maternal serum biochemistry and ultrasound findings are important to determine the treatment options and provide valuable information for the prognosis. Bed rest is the commonest advice, but there is little evidence of its value. Other options include progesterone, human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) and muscle relaxants. The complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) therapies such as acupuncture and chinese herbs have also been tried. There is some evidence from clinical studies indicating that CAM therapies may reduce the rate of miscarriage, but the quality of studies is poor. Thus, further double-blind,randomized-controlled trials are necessary to confirm its effectiveness, especially acupuncture and chinese herbs.

Background:Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy(HIE) occurs when an infant’s brain has not received adequate oxygen and blood supply,resulting in ischemic and hypoxic ***,supportive care and hypothermia therapy have been the standard treatment for ***,there are still over 20% of treated infants died and 19-30% survived with significant *** animal model was first established by Vannucci et al,involving the ligation of one common carotid artery followed by *** this study,we investigated human umbilical cord blood(HUCB) and its two components mononuclear cell(MNC) and red cell fraction(RCF) in both short and long term study using a modified HIE rat ***:In this modified HIE model,both common carotid arteries were occluded,breathing 8% oxygen in a hypoxic chamber for 60-minute,followed by the release of the common carotid arteries ligature,mimicking reperfusion *** cell therapeutic study,cells were intravenously injected to HIE rat pups,and both behavioral and histological changes were assessed at selected time ***:Statistically significant behavioral improvements were demonstrated on Day 7 and 1 month between saline treated HIE rats and UCB/MNC treated ***,at 3 months,the therapeutic improvements were only showed between saline treated HIE animals and MNC treated HIE *** histological analysis one month after cell injection,the number of functional neurons were statistically increased between saline treated HIE and UCB/MNC/RCF treated HIE *** 3 months,the significant increase in functional neurons was only present in MNC treated HIE ***:We have used a bilateral temporary occlusion of 60 minutes,a moderately brain damaged model,for cell therapeutic *** umbilical cord blood(HUCB) mononuclear cell(MNC) therapy showed benefits in neonatal HIE rats in both short and long term behavioral and histological assessments.
